Not only is "Making Time" in the ads - but it plays underneath the entire
opening sequence of the movie! Went to go see a preview the other night and
WHAMMO - it was quite a pleasant surprise to hear that lil' ditty blastin'
THX style.

Oh - and re: Dr. Explosion. Go ahead Glynis, pour a little salt in my

There are both LP (I think titled "Beat Generation) and CD versions, with
the latter having a few bonus tracks.. A really fun package of
novelty-type tunes about beatniks, bongos and the lingo. One of my fave
tracks is "I Don't Dig Rock & Roll" with some great bongo bangin'! Try
Dionysus or Bomp mail-order for availability.

yes I have this on vinyl but the cd comes with a great little booklet and I
got my record second hand so perhaps there was a booklet with that too??.
But my fave is the one about the chick hanging up her stockings (silk!) and

Outasite!. The Mamie Van Doren track aint half bad. Also the one where the
guy is ringing up his date and gets the wrong number - that is great 'but

But she is wearing argyle socks and an argyle sweater in her centerfold.
Madonna imitated the photo in Vanity Fair several years ago.

Hello Glynis

I had to dig for this for a long while, but she indeed did a wacky centre
fold in '67 (April and its got this girl on the cover with a patent black
cap on - she looks kind of op art) and the same centre fold is in the
Playboy book too!!. Hair exactly like you describe, with olive argyle
jumper and matching socks. I dont have any other playboys with her in -
where have you seen/read about her I want a to check it out??

by the way I found that mod one I was talking about: she is called Kim
Farber (feb '67) she is from Chicago. She modeled and sold mod style
clothes at a boutique called ''Cheetah's". Of course they call it mod by
it's more simply go-go. Mod hair though.

I think I may have covered this in a private e-mail to Becky. At least, if
this is the comps.exe file we're talking about. Basically, the purpose of
MacLinkPlus is to translate *documents.* If you don't have the application
that created a specific document, then MacLinkPlus searches for other apps
that might be able to open it.

However, comps.exe is *not* a document; it's an application. You can't get
an application to open an application 'cuz... well, that's not what they
do. Applications open *documents.* (Well, unless you're talking about
compilers opening source code, but, really, source code is a document. Same
goes for hex editors and such.) So, the reason Becky couldn't get
MacLinkPlus to open comps.exe is because it's an app, not a document.

The only way to get a .exe file to run on a Mac is to
a) Buy SoftWindows and run Windows in emulation
b) Buy VirtualPC and do the same
c) Buy a DOS compatibility card (much more expensive than a or b, but it
will run faster; of course, seeing as the G3's are pretty damn fast, you
might not want to bother.)

Not being able to run a .exe file is not a limitation of a Mac, by the way;
you'd have just as much of a problem trying to get a Mac app to run on
Windows. Also, Macs can read PC diskettes, while the reverse is only true
with extra software.

No, I'm not trying to start some stupid Mac v. PC war here; that'd be
pointless. Rather, I just want the Mac users to take heart. I use Macs at
home and PC's at work (plus I've been playing around with Linux and BeOS of
late). I prefer the MacOS, simply due to ease of use. It's a personal
decision.

Here's my point... I don't have much time right now, but I'll slowly be
working on a way to bring Searchin' For Shakes to the Mac. Becky's sending
me the disks she made, but I'll also be downloading the files to the PC's
at work and trying a few ideas out on that end. If I can get a hold of
FileMaker Pro for Windows that would make life much easier, since Filemaker
databases are evidently cross-platform. We'll see what happens and I'll let
you all know.

I don't know anything about Adobe File Builder...

I do know FileMaker Pro is a cross-platform database app originally from
Claris, now from FileMaker Co. (Wholly owned by Apple, I believe.)

As to programming for the Mac while using Windows, I wouldn't be surprised
if CodeWarrior had this built into their Windows version. I know the
(admittedly somewhat old) version I've got of it for the Mac allows you to
compile for your target OS and includes Mac, Windows, and I think Be, as
well as one of the gaming platforms. Of course, I'm pretty much a neophyte
when it comes to "real" programming.

Thanks for the advice, but maybe I should have added the clause
"without having to spend a thousand bucks" to my request for help!

As for distributing a Mac-friendly version of the database, if someone
could supply a converted version I've probably got room for it on my
server. I'd have to do away with the text files currently there, but we
made them available primarily for Mac users anyway.

If you had 400 iMacs, you could trade 'em for a radio station.
