Yes the Shindiggers are energy personified. What a great band to see live.
They are still kickin' on and have a new cd out called of all things 'surf

At the Dublin Castle in Camden Town last week I saw a group called The
Action Time. The stage there could be a bit bigger, but then again so could
the actual venue. Consequently the singer/guitarist kept bumping into the
bass player. Eventually the bassist pusshed the guitarist away, which
resulted in him being kicked. The bassist then hit the guitarist with his
instrument and was punched for his trouble. The bassist then threw his
instrument to the floor and left the stage, walked through the audience and
left the room. End of show. I have a sneaking suspicion that it may have
all been choreographed but the audience seemed to enjoy it all anyway. - PJ

This is way off topic for Bomp, but didn't Jaco Pastorius get his start as a
teenage bass player with Wayne's traveling soul review in the early 70s?
Seems like I remember reading that.

Subject: RE: Fun or Outrageous Antics

Weirdest onstage antics? Psychodrama. Don't know where they were from, but
they played Richmond, VA, a couple times in the mid-80s. Very weird art-punk
performance group. First time I saw them was at an art gallery where they
made Devo-esque noise music while one of the guys rolled around on the floor
in a pile of chicken guts and then threw some into the audience. That'd
freak people out, but since most of them were art students, no fights broke
out.

Second time was at a real bar, opening for some punk band. People had heard
about the chicken guts show, so they turned out for the weirdness.

Well, they started out and one guy climbed a 10-foot step ladder and started
reading some poem or something. Two minutes into the first song, he falls
off the ladder and rolls around the floor holding his head and moaning.
People applaud. After a bit of this, the guy running the bar realizes that's
real blood running through the singer's finders and he's really hurt and
calls an ambulance. Never heard of these guys again.

That's not to mention the roadies for Black Flag playing as the Flag's
opening act and playing totally nekkid. No tube socks like the Chili Peppers
or whatever, just nekkid pale hippie guys. The bass player had his strapped
up high, too.

Wasn't there, but I remember Steve Allen on some late night talk show coming
out in a bathing suit and having guys smear peanut butter and jelly all over
his body, then handing out slices of bread to the audience. People came out
of the audience, rubbed the bread slices on Allen's bod to get pb and jelly
on the bread, then ate their sandwiches.

Yuk!

I saw Jeffrey Lee Pierce in '85 or so. The bass player just stopped
about 3/4 of the through the show. Took off the bass halfway into the
song and left the stage. Everybody else kept playing and even did an
encore, but the bass player never came back.

In '92, We saw the Labrea Stompers singer and drummer get into a fight.
The drummer kicked his drums over and the singer started kicking the
drums all over the stage. They punched each other a few times while the
other two guys finished up the song. Then they helped the drummer set
up his kit again and they all finished up the set with only a few more
punches being thrown.

Kip

With all these great fights being mentioned, I suppose one should throw in
the Lyres' show (in November, '88... I think) at Maxwells when Dave Baise
threw the snare drum at Connolly's head.

Great Adventure amusement park in Jackson NJ used to book spring/ summer rock
shows in the early 80's before six flags took it over. you're admission got
you run of the park and admission to the show. The two shows of note that I
went to were the Ramones and Joe Jackson. with the Undertones opening up for
them. For the Ramones show, the park was overrun by their fans all wearing the
uniform, of black leather jackets, ripped jeans and converse hitops. They were
totally unprepared for this. Everyone packed in to this outdoor area for the
show and the prerequiste pushing and shoving started. Suddenly security is on
the stage, pulling some woman out iof the audience who got in a knife fight.
She's wearing either shorts or a mini, she's been stabbed in the leg, is
bleeding perfusly and all she apparently wants to jump back in the crowd and
pound the perpetrator because she's wrasslin with these security guys until
finally they drag her off to an ambulance. And yes the Ramones did get to
play.

They usually did two shows, an early evening and night show. I would
secure a school van from the company I was working for with cavate that I
return it with a full tank of gas and no scars. So we packed it full of my
friends and go the night show. We got there for the Undertones/Jackson show
and were talking to the Undertones crew, who were saying the lads were
thinking of bagging the second show because the crowd treated them so poorly.
They went on anyway and the crowd very intolerant, booing and yelling out Joe
Jackson songs. Finally lead singer Fergal Sharkey, after doing what we thought
was a great set under wartime conditions , stops, glares at the crowd and
yells "What do want? Freebird?" The place erupted in to cheers and applause. A
shameful moment for the "garden state."

Some of the best stories involve the Fleshtones.....This goes back to the old
Ritz in NYC on 11th street. The Fleshtones were playing and during one of the
encores Peter Zaremba starts climbing up on the speaker stack while the band
is playing. This was a pretty tall stack and it was pretty high off the
ground, being that the Ritz had a small theater sized stage. The Z man makes
it to the top of the stack, stands up and starts dancing! We were all kinda
breathless, expecting the whole thing to come crashing down, which thankfully
didn't happen...

hmmmm---speaking of throwing equipment, at the first real show i ever
saw---rolling stones in albany new york, 1964 ($3 ticket---i still have the
stub)---jagger started singing---no vocal---threw the microphone off the
stage---cord still hooked up---stand falling over---no one had ever seen
anything like it other than perhaps jerry lee throwing his piano bench
offstage on the steve allen show---ahhh the good old days....

Subject: Switchblade Sisters-an introduction

Hi there...I'm new to this list (though I see some names from the modslist).
Seems likes it's my cup o' joe, though...
I was wondering if anyone knew if the sountracks to these 2 movies have ever
been released:
Stanley Kubrick's The Killing
Switchblade Sisters

And if they do exist, any idea where I can find them?
Thanks!

I thought this might interest some of you...
Columbia House, as part of their re-TV series, is offering series
subscriptions for Thunderbirds are Go!, the Prisoner, the Monkees, Route 66,
and Mystery Science Theater and at fairly decent prices.
