Just posted a handful of new programs available for "on demand" listening in
Real Audio at wdoa.com. Reverend Joe Longone continues with week three of
his countdown of the (in his not so humble opinion) top 100 Rock 'n' Roll
acts of the 20th century. LBWorm launches "CyberSounds from Wormtown" which
in large part focuses on the Wormtown/Worcester, MA scene. Desmond Finn
spins 30 minutes of roots rock and americana, while yours truly basically
slaps on the turntables anything that doesn't smell too funny.

Beat Happening's 1980s output is completely Cramps
influenced- "Hangman," "Bad Seeds," etc. from
like 1983-1989 very Cramps. As far as monotone
vocals, that's what made Nancy Sinatra a star.
Pajama Party in a Haunted House was the working
title to Ghost in the Invisible Bikini.

I will be filling in for a friend on WMUC-FM
(www.wmuc.edu) this thursday evening from
9pm-12mid EST. Right now I got a request for
1970s punk, I was already going to put on some
1970s soundtrack music and will undoubtedly fill
the remaining time with 1960s garage.

thanks,

Has any of you ever heard the version of this by Beatle Hans & The
Paisly Perverts ?

Re: Wade In The Water; there's a great soul version of this one by
Marlena Shaw on Cadet that pre dates the Lewis version. Credits
on this one are M. Shaw & L. Magid, so....

The author of that book is one TOMMY WOMACK, who recently put out an
excellent record called "Positively Na Na" on Checkered Past Records.
Replacements/Steve Earle/Kevin Salem kinda thing, very good record.

That is a very good record, esp. the song "Whatever Happened to Cheetah
Chrome?".

Last Christmas, my friend Duane gave me a copy of Government Cheese's
first EP from '85. Now, I just need to find that last CD.

Yeah, that's a great book -- I recommend it to everyone out there, although
I've never seen it for sale outside of Nashville. I suppose that's what the
internet is for. I talked to Mr. Womack about a year ago after he opened up
for a solo gig by Jason Ringenberg of Jason and the Scorchers (a
fun/outrageous live band in their own right), and he seemed like a pretty nice
guy. He's a pretty clever lyricist, too.

Worried Life Blues is listed as an old blues standard on Chuck Berry
_Rockin' at the Hops_, credit goes to M. Merriweather.
As for Worried Man Blues, Devo does a fine version in the Neil Young
_Human Highway_ flick (I've only seen the excerpt on the second Devo vid).

Speaking of movies, Cleavon and Gene hum a few bars of Wade on the Water
in _Blazzing Saddles_.

		Bringing up the rear, Mark

P.S. If you dig vibraphones there's an excellent version of Nat Adderly's
Work Song on Very Tall: Milt Jackson with the Oscar Peterson Trio.

Thank you, sir! I've known of the Cynics for a long time and have played
their tuneage a lot over the past few years, but I have to plead ignorance on
the Frampton Brothers. That split 7" with the Cynics is all I know by them,

I've seen videos of these guys doing this (and on Jerry Springer once too)
Probably just as well for them that they haven't toured out here although
I'd love to see it for myself, the moralistic vigilantes that we have out
here would have a field day!!! (They thought Marilyn Manson was scary!) On
the Jerry Springer thing that I saw them on, the band were being accused by
parents of leading their youngsters astray and teaching them naughty things
(you know, the usual gripes parents have when their kids start making their
own decisions about what they like and don't like) but Gwar were really cool
and answered questions and accusations intelligently and politely (I don't
think the "grown ups" were expecting that) and basically said that they
don't force anyone to come to their shows or watch their videos so if you
don't like it, don't watch it!!! Good advice, in my books...
mind you, if I do ever get the opportunity to go to a Gwar show, I'll be
standing RIGHT up the back of the room, or at least wearing coveralls!!!

Then you'll want to keep an eye out for the next Swingin' Neckbreakers
album (no, no release date or anything yet -- I'm not even sure whether
they've started recording). Among the many new tunes they performed at the
Court Tavern was a tribute to Baron Miguel Sicluna, with the catchy chorus
"Baron Sicluna, hailing from the Isle of Malta."

Bonjour,
I just came back from a trek to the big Apple and I must say that
Cable Tv is pretty good in that part of the woods! On the American Pop
channel (?) I saw a scopitone of Nino Tempo and la charmante April
Stevens doing "Land of 1000 Dances". (Anybody tape that?) And then a
60s documentary on the "new" trend of surfboarding with killer surf
instrumentals by "the Sandals" (?)....Then I switched over to "Real Sex"
where they showed these 50 year-old dutch doing the doolang all over
each other! As well as a company that manufactures silicone-based
life-sized dolls for 5,000$ as sex toys!!! Only in America.....I was at
a record show in upstate New York checking out cds for 1.00$ and buying
tons of mint copies of The Patron Saints' original Lp, when these two 40
year-olds , who were blocking my path, had a completely weird
conversation, punctuated by thousands of "dude" and "man". I can
understand 16 year-olds talking like that but at that age..Hmm!!!! Give

There's not allways much to brag about here musicwise but now that Rick Simms
is back with a vengance I at least get a monthly dose of ass kicking R&R. The
show I saw last night proved his new outfit Gaza Strippers will never live in
the shadow of The Digits. The lp is due out on Man's Ruin 3/23. Catch 'em live
if ya get the chance and get the Transister 45 if you don't have it allready
loser motherfuckers!!!!

Subject: Mosrite Fuzz

I was reading a Davie Allen interview in a back issue of "Shindig" and he
said he used a "Mosrite Fuzz" pedal on "Blues Theme". Is there a reissue
of this? What are some currently available cool "fuzz" pedals?

Mosrite Fuzzrite is available as a reissue. It is called Sanner Fuzzrite I
believe, and the reissue has been
designed and built by the guy who originally build the fuzzrites. It's
being sold by Frontporch Music which is located
in the LA area I believe. I can find the phone number for you, if you want.
Joe Emery , who's on the list might be able to help you too.
I haven't tried it out yet, but I've heard
extremely positive comments from people who are extremely picky bout their
gear and tone. It's supposed
be exactly like the old D.Allan fuzz. I got my best biker fuzz yet by using
a vintage vox tonebender on our upcoming
album. A good practical choice in my opinion is the soviet made( Sovtek)
replica of the Electro Harmonics Big Muff. Affordable
and ugly sounding, like a fuzz should be. In a live setting it'll do the
job. Prices on vintage fuzzes are out of hand at least
here so a good reissue is the reasonable way to go, there are several
posiibilities, a new Fuzzface is cool too.
apologies to all the non-playing list members for the gear talk.

And originally recorded too. Surprisingly hard to find.
Johnny Smith's big hit version of "Moonlight in Vermont" is all over the
place but not this one.

>Work Song (Raymarks+Jim Waller+West Coast Pop Art E.B.)

Written in 1960 by jazz cornetist Nat Adderley; I don't know if he recorded
it under his own name, or with his brother Cannonball's group, or what.

Nat Adderley's own group. ON Riverside I believe. featuring Wes MOntgomery
on guitar if I remeber correctly.
>Worried life blues (Chuck Berry+Animals)

Is this the 1930 Carter Family song "Worried Man Blues"? Perhaps not.
>>>>>>>>>>
Worried Life is by Big Maceo aka Maceo Merriweather. One of the big city
blues names
of late 30's -early 40's.

and Watermelon man is Herbie Hancock
