I heard one of those reissues a few months back, and those things are
amazing. The fuzz on that thing is unbelievable. I think it costs quite a
bit...like over $250, but if you're serious about fuzz, it'd be worth it.
The fuzz isn't muffled one bit, and it gives a great, full sound. I agree
that a Bigmuff is a great, affordable pedal too...you definitely get your
money's worth on those.

Opps, screwed up that first reply. The title is Do Androids Dream of Electric
Sheep, By Phillip K. Dick. You probably know the story beter as "balde Runner"
since it served as the bases for the film and P.K.D actualy consulted on the
movie shortly before his death. It's a great introduction to the man who
IMHO is a master writer. Briefly, the book deals with an earth thats like
Seattle Meets 1970's urban decay NYC where "replicants" have been created to
do the dangerous tasks ih off owrld colonies and the menial ones here Of
course as they become more techniologically sophisticated, they also want to
live more human lives and some of them turn murderous in order to return to
earth and try to live with people. The law enforcement who track them down and
retire them are called Blade runners, since they are so perfectly designed,
it's almost impossible to detect them. This is the 1040EZ explaination and
leaves out alot of the psyco-drama that makes the book click. Read it first
and them (if you haven't seen it,) rent the movie. Then move on to "The man in
the High castle" Dick won a hugo award for it.....

She starred in Anything But Love, after an overhaul of the cast. She was
the editor and a rather eclectic person. She was perfect for the role.
Alive TV ran a short film with her in which she skewered female stereotypes
on TV, i.e. the perennial victim, the dowdy professorial type, a
straight-shooting morning show host, etc.

Don't rent out the space for the Club yet! You are dealing with a man that
occasionally wrote under the influence. My opinion on Mercerism was that
this was a society so devoid of actual experience and full of false idols,
they needed some way to channel there emotions, therefore Mercer.

As with PKD, I am oversimplifying, but I read (or heard) this book a few
years ago. The movie is (as those who have read it) a verrry (with extra
r's) small slice of the book.

As for wild gigs, there was always the first time that I saw the Woggles.
Not only did they jump around and move in unison, they played and played
tight! The wildest thing to happen in recent memory was the small
intraband (is this the opposite of contraband?) fight that broke out during
the Conquerors set.

There is good one called 'Twenty Minute Fandangos and Forever Changes'.
It has Nick Tosches, R. Meltzer/Borneo Jimmy, Sandy Pearlman, and some
Lester Bangs stuff that didn't make it into 'Psychotic Reactions...'.

You know it's good cuz Dave Marsh said it was one of the ten worst rock

there are still copies out there. I recommend both of them if you

Ed Sander's (of the Fugs) excellent Manson book, The Family, is a fun,
creepy crawly trawl through the Mansonists depraved 15 minutes of fame.
On a lighter note try "Groupie" by Jenny Fabian and Johnny Byrne, "Drummer"
by Richard Clarke( "a hallucinatory trip into a savage, amoral, rock horror
nightmare" sez the cover blurb) and Ian Hunter's "Diary of a Rock n Roll
Star". All very quaint reminders aof a more innocent age...
