You might be thinking of Loose Leaf Review, Alex Taylor's catalog/'zine,
which featured a story on the Jury in issue 4. Here's the discography:

London 17338: Until You Do/Not Guilty (02/65)
London 17341: I Tried To Tell Her/You'd Better Be On Your Way (65)
London 17345: Back In My World/It's Been A Long Time (08/65)
Quality 1828: Please Forget Her/Who Dat? (06/66)
(US) Port 3019: Please Forget Her/Who Dat? (66)

I haven't heard any of them besides "Who Dat?" myself, but the article
has this to say regarding "Until You Do": "An excellent choice as a
debut release. A group original, with all the properties of a true
British sound, minus the production." It went over big in Winnipeg!

Syl Sylvain is not only very much alive, he had two CDs out last year. One
was the old Criminals demos (many of which surfaced on his circa-80 LPs) and
the second a new one called SLEEP BABY DOLL. Both available via Fishhead
Records:

Syl lives in the Atlanta area now and did quite a few gigs across the States
last year - got great reviews too!

Hey Andrew,
We used a Joe Meek Compression box in the mastering of our latest album (out
soon on Corduroy Records). It was a ancient looking old box even though it
was brand new!. It affected all songs and instruments differently, some we
only had to use slight compression some we had to use heaps. I cant explain
anything to you in technical terms but the JM compression added a nice kind
of reverb type effect as well as boosting the sound and adding more bottom
end. We played around with the box alot and sometimes on certain settings I
thought I could almost hear 'bird calls' jumping out of the speakers.
Perfect for surf, RnB, pop and especially if you want 'the 6ts sound'.
Luckily we had a cool and experienced engineer who knew what he was doing as
when we put too much compression everything just sounded too stupid and
messy. I am no 'gearhead' but I would recommend using a JM compression box.
If you want to hear it in action you can check out the new Hekawis ep on
Wiped Out records, but you really need to hear the before and after.
Although on the album referred to above we also used a computer (dont freak
out) to get the loudest and clearest possible sound after it had been
through the JM compression box. The compression was best on songs recorded
live in the studio as our reel to reel recordings didn't need any
compression. Hope I am of some help.

Thanx Bill...I thought he was still kicking around (and am glad that he is)
but my friend reckoned he fell out of a window at a party! I'd just read the
Doll's book that came out recently and as it seemed fairly up to date, I
found this Syl Sylvain is dead talk to be a bit dubious.

My MGM copy of "The Animals" gives the songwriting credits for House of

It is a thin hardback kiddie book with simple words, VERY LARGE TYPE and
lots of color photos. The topic? A TEEN FAIR! circa '64 or '65! There is
a picture of a band on stage (The Mickey Finns), and lots of other cool pix.
A real find! If interested, I might be able to find out copyright date,
publisher, etc.

exhume something from down there...

There are quantity copies of most of his LPs (as well as most Chesterfield
Kings LPs), but not Kack Klick 45s...or Church Mice 45s. I asked. Of
course, they could be buried somewhere, but unless you feel like organizing
that basement...

Hi Rocky,
I won´t do these songs, too, as I think they have been covered a lot
already! Think I would always look for the more obscure stuff. These lyrics
are for the german girl-coolsters The Boonaraaas, they wanna do these songs
for recordings for, I think, an album on Thunderbaby Records! But thanks for
your help anyway...they really appreaciate this (shit, I never know how to
write this word..)! Best
Lutz
