YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE
(Jimmy Davis & Charles Mitchell)

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I miss you
Please don't take my sunshine away

And before that, in the 30s, he was a Jimmie Rodgers-style country/blues
singer who did some very risque recordings. And he's still alive, at age
99, he turns 100 September 11. Send him a card.

A minor claricication - the $65/night rate applies only to Friday and
Saturday; if you stay Sunday night (or any other night besides Fri & Sat),
it's $44/night. That makes the three-night total for two tickets plus
hotel $294. Not an insignificant amount, but if two people put $5 apiece
in the cookie jar every week between now and Halloween then you'll pretty
much have it covered. Airfare to Vegas is usually pretty cheap, I've
found, especially with this much time to plan ahead. Airlines are bound to
be offering sales later in the year, so watch your local papers and if you
hear of good deals, tell your Bompin' friends.

By the way, if you call the Gold Coast to make a reservation, you'll need
to tell them up front that you're part of "the '60s Weekender," as it says
on the lvg web site. I just called, and when I asked to reserve a room
over that weekend I was told that the hotel is completely sold out.
However, when I mentioned the '60s Weekender the agent was able to book the
reservation. Apparently there is a bloc of rooms set aside for this event
that aren't available to the general public.

Wasn't it the original done by the Castle Kings around 61/62? The song
also sounds like a possible influence on a certain New York Dolls song.

Tony recommended the UK film 'Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels' over the
weekend. Music lovers may like to know that the "card shark scene" not
only features 'Liar Liar' but in concludes with 'I Wanna Be Your Dog'. My
girlfriend was very embarassed during this part of the film, ie boyfriend
going nuts, and hid her head in shame! An excellent slice of Brit' cinema.

I was there! What a magnificent sight to behold. When the dust cleared,

Some sick fuzz was had on a recording by simply patching the guitar
through a simple pedal (maybe overdrive or something) and directly into
the board.

Live, yeah the coolest is to overdrive the smaller amps, old Ampegs have
an esp. nice warm sound. I saw William in the Chrome Cranks manage to get
some wicked sounds out of the Boss fuzz pedal (I forget what it's called,
"Fuzzmaster" maybe?). I imagine the Fuzzrite should sound like that as well.

That musta been great!! Because the Fleet Center was built literally 6
inches from the old Boston Garden, they had to tear down the Garden brick by
brick over the course of 3-4 months. It kinda looked like a opossum that got
hit by a car and was left for weeks, exposing bones 'n' stuff through the
carcass. The old Hotel Madison, on the other hand, which stood next to the
Garden, got imploded, an event which I proudly attended with a buddy of mine.
After the deed was done, and the cheering stopped, the silence was broken by a
guy shouting out, "C'mon, do another one!!!"

Re: Let's Work Out, The Final Chapter

When did Gene Vincent record "You'll Never Walk Alone"? The most famous
rock and roll-related recording of this song was by Gerry and the
Pacemakers in 1964, the followup to "How Do You Do It?" Gene Vincent played
in Liverpool several times in the early early '60s, and one of the local
groups that backed him on occasion was the Pacemakers. So possibly Gerry
and the Pacemakers picked it up from Gene who might have performed it at
the time, if he didn't record it first...

Re: Sean Bonniwell's autobiography

Sean Bonniwell wrote another book called "Beyond The Garage," which is
about his early days in rock and roll and his conversion to Christianity in
the '80s. The book someone else posted about sounds like something he
probably wrote in the '70s when he was into various forms of mysticism. The
'80s and Christianity apparently changed all that. Speaking of the Music
Machine, apparently Collectables is or has reissued the "Turn On" album
with 4 bonus tracks.
