And even though he converted to Christianity, he enjoyed (enjoys?) the
garage revival movement. I recall seeing an article saying how he liked
some of the new bands and if they wanted to cover any Music Machine
material, all they had to do was wear one glove and detune their
intsruments one half step down.

of you have snazzy sites!! A Shindig one will be on the way!!

Secondly, for all who have ordered SHINDIG it will be on it's way this
week. Sorry things have taken so long, the bugger's only just back from the
printers!!

Thirdly for those of you who haven't ordered it do so now. You've probably
seen posts about it recently, but if you wanna know more e-mail me or Paul
Crittenden <boldface@easynet.co.uk> for ordering details. Y'know the score,
if the music we discuss here interests you, this publication is a must!!

Well, I will NEVER be one to complain about getting a lot of sealed vinyl.
However, some of my recent scores, sealed while they are, havesome water
damage from being stored in a basement for who knows how long! So even
though "mint", there is some mold on them, as well as in the inner parts
of the covers that are gate-folds. Some other of the records in the same
haul also have mold either on the jackets or the vinyl itself. Is there a
way after cleaning these, to prevent the MOLD from further, uh, growing and
spreading? EEEK!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to go amp hunting with a friend up in
Washington, DC, where there are lots of used equipment places. Not much here
in this little college town, and it's all recent Peavey and Crate stuff when
I find any. Maybe Fender. Thanks for the tips.

just thought i'd say hi to all you bompsters;

err, not much else to say now that i think about it except i went to see
the psychotic reaction/the dirty burds in Derby (UK) on saturday and they
were both shit hot (although i have to admit to going to the bar during the
psychotics new 'slower number').
Nice cosy venue (and it was pretty funny watching the looks on the faces
of the pub's regulars having to walk through the room where they were
playing to get to the loos) with a pretty decent sound. I even managed to
drag along a jazz-only mate who really enjoyed it (although i think that
after seeing the dirty birds he would enjoyed *anything 8-))

okay, over and out,

Subject: The Legend of Paul Revere

I just picked up the old Columbia/Legacy 2-CD set of Paul Revere and the
Raiders (simply because it was a good cheap used copy). I must say I
thought I had heard it all before. I have the "Essential Ride" CD, "Here
They Come!" and the Sundazed reissue of "Just Like Us," but this is the
first time I've been exposed to most of the stuff pre-1965 or post 1967.

I especially like "Beatnick Sticks" ("Chopsticks" rocked up) and "Midnight
Ride" (he was a cautious mother, that old Revere...) from their early days,
the original "Louie Go Home" (now I know where the Who got it), their hot
rod tracks (especially the kickin' "SS396") and even their later
funk-bubblegum-metal stuff.

I'm really looking forward to the pre-Columbia compilation on Sundazed
which is still eluding us as I speak. It was certainly a nice find until
then.

Subject: Producers trying to rock...

Bought a couple of 45s the other day, both with ties to producers who tried
their hands at making names for their own creations. The first is "The Out
Crowd" and "Melvin's Tune" by the Squares, with songs written and produced
by Artie Resnick, who teamed with Joey Levine on such collaborations as
"Run Run Run" by the Third Rail and most hits by the Ohio Express. The
single is on Roulette and is a mildly amusing ode to, well, kind of being
out of the loop (the singer professes that Lawrence Welk is a genius).

The other single I've seen mentioned on this list. It's "Hide and Seek" b/w
"Twelve Months Later" by the Sheep on the Boom label. It's essentially
Feldman-Gottherer-Goldstein (the Strangeloves) with a different name, but
pretty much the same sound. Neither of the records move me too much, but
they are pretty interesting obscurities. Does anyone know anything about
the records.

I also picked up the Hombres "Let It Out (Let It All Hang Out)" b/w "Go,
Girl, Go" on Verve Forecast. It's interesting that the flipside is a song
that also appears on Essential Pebbles, credited to an unknown group. It's
not the Hombres, and it's called "Go Go Girl," but it's the same song. I
found it in a box of grab-bag throwaway records outside a local record
store. Their loss, it plays just fine. Same with the two Ventures albums.

Do any of you Left Banke/Love/Bee Gees/Moody Blues types use a digital piano
in your band with weighted keys? If so, could you pass on some
recommendations. I'd much prefer an acoustic piano, but I want to keep my
back. By the way, thanks to the person who suggested the Maestro phase
shifter. We are running the violin through an MXR graphic EQ, the Maestro,
and a DD-5 delay and it sounds quite large and haunting.

I was the one that mentioned that, I believe. As far as the Sheep are
concerned, their best side was "Thinkin' About It", which was never
officially released . The other single I have heard (their only other
one?) is "Dynamite" which is worse than this one. "Hide and Seek" is a
cover of the Bunker Hill song that is in the movie of "Hairspray" but not
on the soundtrack album. It would seem that the F-G-G team produced the
McCoys' Hang on Sloopy, as this and "Twelve Months Later" sound quite
similar. This is plausible, as the Strangeloves and the McCoys had the
Bang! label in common.

Yeah, that's a great song. And I have a funny story about it. And I'm gonna
tell it.
Well, that was the first Paul Revere & The Raiders record I ever bought,
and I thought it was
pretty cool. So when I was DJing "The Fuzz That Wuzz" and Bob and John from
the Gruesomes were going to be on the show as guests, I decided to play
that tune. You see, the two of them
had the longest bowl haircuts at the time, with bangs right down to their
chins. So I thought the
song was fitting.
I played it and they proceeded to say (on the air) that it was the
suckiest, crappiest song they
had ever heard. Instead of taking offence, I was pretty proud that I played
it (and liked it) because
as Mr. Phillips pointed out, it's a pretty great song. It was the first
time I actually thought I had good
taste (and sense) in music!

This is adding a new dimension to green fuzz isn't it!. I think you should
definitely wash the vinyl in cold water or at least wipe it with a record
cloth and throw the cloth away. As for sleeves, mold hates sunlight and dry
air so try cleaning as much off with a dry rag and put sleeve in the morning
sunlight upright for about an hour or so. if the sleeve is wet as well as
moldy still put it in the sun but put an old unwanted record inside so that
the sleeve retains its shape, you may need to peg it together but put tissue
under the peg pressure points to avoid denting the cardboard.
