The BEST way is to bookmark the Saturn V Featuring Orbit's site
<www.TheSaturnV.com/> and check out the most fantastic schedule (w/links)
of netcast garage shows I've seen yet. No shit, this thing is a dream.
Checked out the "Subterranean Jungle" last night and yeah, that's some
delivery he's got there. Also, through the Saturn V links last Saturday I
discovered the GREATEST little show "Intoxica," featuring Dick Dale, the
Bomboras, Chesterfield Kings, and the Lyres to name but a few, and
broadcast out of a high zoot alternative station in BELGRADE, YUGOSLAVIA.

Wow, what a world.

Apparently, there's some problems with the Real Audio. They've been
notified, and things should be ok for next week. Let's just hope so!

Dear Gruesomy Glynis,

Don't worry honey, Mr. Beaton has already fallen under my garage spell,
since I've made him vow to grow his hair long again and go back to
wearing pointy boots! Mr. Beaton will be a special guest on my show
March 12th for the station's annual fund raising drive, and there will
be much juicy anecdotes about the Gruesomes and all the other great
Montreal garage bands this man was part of before getting into ska. One
of my favorites was when Bobby got a fan letter from this German chick
who asked him to send her a wallet size picture of him, and he just sent
her a greasy napkin in the mail...

Won't the pointy boots interfere with his skanking?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the term "krautrock" coined by the
German prog band Faust? At any rate they have a song of the same name on
their 4th LP (for what it's worth).

What a shame. A friend of mine picked up one of their LPs when he was in
Japan. It is simply amazing. I have tried without luck to find any of their
releases (except for the Mademoiselle single) here in the States.

I think what we're dealing with here is a play on words. "Nip" can be a
derogatory term for the Japanese, it is also an abbreviation for "nipple"
(my favorite kind of nip). Because of its debatably clever usage here, I
don't think we can consider it racist, especially since we can assume the
people who put out the comp must have held the musicians contained
therein in high esteem, and those that buy it can consider themselves
among the few westerners to be buying music coming from (or having came
from in this case) Japan. I've enjoyed the few cuts I've heard from this
comp.
Of course I'm not ashamed to admit owning both Nip Drivers lps. This 80s
punk band derived their name from a song about Japanese arriving fresh
off the plane in LA , obtaining vehicles, and terrorizing the roadways.
Yes, very derogatory but, well....you still get a few of them out on the
roads here.

>Still don't like either name, but you're also dealing with a guy that

Let's face it. Tim's a homophobe (and suspiciously so, considering every
other sentence he writes is about how some song's supposed to rip right
through your asshole).

Subject: The Nerves

I just found out there's some band calling themselves The Nerves who are
looking for a show here in St. Louis this May. Seems they have something on
Thrill Jockey? From the agent: "they are a nasty-garagy-punk rock band.
Late 70's early 80's punk, similar to Dwarves and Wipers. They've got a real
humorous side similar to Supernova and Chixdiggit".

Is this the original Nerves who first wrote and performed "Hanging On The
Telephone", that Blondie later made into a hit?

Thanks,
kopper
