The Kitchen Cinq relocated from Amarillo, TX to Boss Angeles in the fall of
'66 after getting signed as the debut act on Lee Hazelwood's LHI label.
They changed their name upon signing the deal.

The Y'Alls 45 is a rare one (books $400 in near mint shape) and is a cool
fuzz 2-sider from May, 1966: "Please Come Back" / "Run for Your Life".
Topside is a cool fuzz original with boss harmonies, while the flip is
another fuzz take on the Fab Four tune. "Please Come Back" is on Texas
Flashbacks, I believe.

Tony S. is right on with values on the Kitchen Cinq 45's, all should run no
more than $10-15 for near mint copies. Jason, if ya can't find one, I'll
see if any of my record whore pals have one. Send me a mail off list.

We had a brief discussion on gory, heavy-handed driver's ed films a few
weeks ago. I just found out that the movie museum in Astoria, Queens (about
4 subway stops away from my apt.) will be showing a series of classroom
mental hygiene films from the '50s through the early '70s over the next few
weekends. Each program is devoted to a certain theme, such as J.D.'s, drug
abuse, dating etiquette, and the driver's ed genre. Check out the schedule

Perhaps the most lascivious Chuck Berry song up till "My Ding-A-Ling" and
that risque live version of "Reelin' And Rockin'" from 1972 (recorded two
days before I was born), would be "Little Queenie." If "she's too cute to
be a minute over seventeen," why the heck does Chuck want to "make it" with
her? Hmmm...

One good thing is, that I believe the latter song directly inspired "I Saw
Her Standing There" by the Beatles. Almost a followup to the song, in the
same kind of narrative style Berry used on "Queenie."

I realized I sent a message about the short-lived "songs about the moon"
thread a while back, with no body text. Anyway, was just going to say one
song nobody mentioned: "Look At The Moon" by the Amoebas on "Baltimore Teen
Beat A Go Go" (Get Hip). A weak collection overall, but a nice artifact.

Yes, the "Muleskinner Blues" LP by the Fendermen is being released this
year on Sundazed's BeatRocket LP division. As for Plum Records, a poster
referred to "the recent Castaways compilation." Has it actually come out
yet?? Who has it and how is it? Track listing if you got 'em...

Is there a compilation of Castaways stuff coming out?
Maybe it is referring to the "Soma Records Story"
because I know that that series has quite a few songs
by the Castaways...

I wouldn't say that, necessarily... Some cool bands have popped up out of
there over the years. Am I incorrect in thinking that Tina Peel, The Cool
Italians (and Misanthropes), and Cellar Dwellers all, er, dwelt there? Not
to mention Dino Sorbello, who moved to NYC from there and formed groups
like The Mad Violets and Blacklight Chameleons. (Hmm... perhaps Dino would
agree with your assessment; he did leave, after all.)

"Please Come Back To Me" is an absolute killer melodic fuzz-punker. The
singer sounds a lot like a tough Mickey Dolenz (if that makes sense). The
track was comped on one of Eva's Texas Punk LPs in the '80s, and no doubt
it has since appeared on the CD equivalent. I wouldn't be surprised if it
turns up again on the "fuzz" volume of Teenage Shutdown, coming soon I
hear.

Hey, great musical choices Mark!
Do you also like the Real Kids? I saw them here in Boston on new year's
eve. They had many problems with their bass amp and so they didn't gain
momentum until the last couple of songs of their set ("Just like darts"
and "Reggae Reggea", I think). But regardless of the sound problems and
the interruptions that they caused, it was great to see the Real Kids
again. Such great songs... Unnatural Axe who played right before them had
the best sound of the night. They played a tight, energetic set and the
songs from their early days especially sounded exactly as they
should: amazing!

Dinos - also a rock'n'roll student.

What with all the death news lately, I had a fearful moment when I saw the
header VERY sad news
well, I guess they were your favorite band and all, but at least no one
died. (and sometimes breaking up leads to better bands. . . )

Thank you. This has been driving me crazy the past couple of days. I knew I
had the song, but couldn't remember where. Great song. I never thought
about it but, yeah, the singer does sound like Mickey Dolenz.

And it has those wonderful Eva quasi-English liner notes. "This is Vol. 2
of Texas 60's Punk, or even better "Garage"! The future market surely won't
be overloaded anymore like it was the past few years...most collectors have
now stopped producing those obscure samplers. This doesn't mean, there is no
more good material. Oh No!!"

I just saw the track listing in a record store for those 4 new ones. The
1st 2 got mostly unreissued stuff, & the last 2 got like 50/70% already
out there but they all look pretty cool. I seems that we'll have to wait
til at least mid february now.3 other comp's are coming out
(R&B+Soul+Las Vegas Grind: it looks like at least the 1st 2 got more
tracks on cd).
