I agree. The Eva liner notes were always as unintentionally amusing as
those on Back From The Grave.

Hey Paul are you absolutely positive about that.
I know they're splitting up, sad news but to be honest
not really unexpected, afterall ten years is a long
time to wear tweed on yer bonce in the tropical
climates they've toured over the years....but a little

they lay to rest their immortal deerstalkers.....
Three cheers for Billy, Bruce and Johnny for the gigs

Georgie Fame's second LP in America was "Beat Group" (Imperial 12312)
though until very recently I thought it was "Get Away" (Imperial 12331).
Mint sealed copy should be around $40 or so for "Beat Group" and around $20

Subject: Thee Headcoats

The news about the demise of Thee Headcoats had to wait a while because I
didn't want to say anything until I was sure that it was okay to do so. I'm
sure you all understand that...

Anyhow, I can't say it was too much of a surprise - especially after all
but one of the Headcoatees disappeared in the last few months. Basically,
what has happened is that Johnny decided to quit. I'll see him on Friday of
course and may find out more but that's about all the facts I have right
now.

Of course, as others have said, something even better may come from this
split. Billy and Bruce will be sticking together but as Johnny had been
with them for quite some time they don't think it would be the Headcoats
without him. Any new "project" (as Bruce puts it) would necessarily have a
new name to go along with the new bassist.

It's still not clear as to whether the Headcoat Sect will still play the
planned dates in Japan in April - that depends on whether they can persuade
Johnny to still do it. If they do play Japan then there will probably be
one final show in London. But as things stand right now this Friday could
well be the last one...

More updates on the situation after the weekend...

BTW, I know of one person who's looking for some cheap plane tix to fly
over from New York as they never got to see the Headcoats yet. And some
folks are driving over from France and Holland too. Should be a good one!

At least Thee Headcoats have finished at a time when they are still a
totally amazing live act rather than trundle on into doddery old age. But
I'm sure that when Billy and Bruce get things going again we'll be
astounded all over again!

Yeah Mate good choice for a trip, not best place
for records shopping but...
Go to Dave's shop "Road Records" in Dublin
off Grafton street.
ask him for more addresses to find old vinyls,
the only shop where you can find good garage &
sixties stuff.
There's a good pub on the Corner facing the shop
(can't remember the name).
There's Birds records on the quays near O'Connel
bridge on the basement beside the Murphy's Comedy
Theatre.
For clothes go to Flip in Temple Bar where Reynald
from the Female Hercules works, cool stuff plus he's
french.
Have a good time in mighty Dublin town, i use to live
here a few years ago. Use & abuse of Guinness and you'll
see this town as it really is ! Mad, insane goooood !!!

Well if you ask me The Milkshakes and The Pop Rivets sound radically
different from Thee Headcoats. (And yes, I know the speech about how those
two bands were not 100 percent dominated by Billy). I can also tell the
difference between Thee Mighty Caesars and Thee Headcoats but I admit they

Anything by the Outsiders is great. Q'65 2nd LP (Revival?) is pretty
cool too, but I don't know about the other one (Afghanistan?)

Be careful with the Motions, many of their cuts are lame white soul.

 how about all those more

Group 1850 1st LP is neat.

Also go for the Golden Earrings triple cd (3 LPs + 45s), the Jay-Jay's,
the Scorpions double cd (if you don't mind a lot of covers) & one of my
fave, the Ro-D-Ys.

I'm pretty sure it IS called:

"In a World Without Love" and it was made a hit by Peter & Gordon (but I'm
only 99% sure). As an interesting coincidence, it was written by Lennon &
McCartney.

Yeah, that was "A World Without Love." It was by Peter & Gordon. Paul
McCartney wrote it for them; Peter's sister Jane Asher was Paul's
girlfriend.

Not a bad thing.

I like everything I've heard by the Outsiders. Their second LP, "CQ", is
going in a different direction than the first one but it's also essential.
I hope it will be reissued soon. As for Q65, their first two LP are great.
I don't know about the third one (made in the 70's I think). However,
probably the best material by both bands is on their singles. The
Outsiders "Songbook" LP, which contains most of their singles -- although
not their first one with "Sun is going down" -- is excellent.

> also, how are the motions and zips collections?

Is there a recent Motions anthology on vinyl? A lot of what they did
is absolutely killer ("It's gone", "For Another Man" etc.) but some of
their later singles that I've listened to are quite weak.
The Zipps collection on Pseudonym is great! And with all this talk about
milk, you must listen to a track whose title I don't remember exactly but
which has to do with the bass player needing/promoting ice cold Dutch
milk...("no more beer, ice cold milk!").

> how about all those more > psych-oriented dutch comps (like the one on
distortions)?

I like "Waterpipes and Dykes". The Distortions' "Dutch beat explosion" is
also very good. Not psych oriented but rather with cool melodic dutch beat
songs. Also, look for the "Highlights in the Lowlands" comp that came out
sometime last year. A lot of good stuff on this one. I like it more
everytime I listen to it. Finally, if you don't already have it, get the
"Best of V-Lips".

You can hear the Beatles' recording of the song on either volume 1 or 2 on
those Beatles Anthology CD's...not sure which 'cause I'm not at home.

That's what I was thinking too, but I sure don't see it listed on either
one.

BTW, just to reconcile the earlier posts, it was written by Paul but
credited to Lennon/McCartney because they agreed back when they were
teenagers to always put both names on anything either of them wrote. They
didn't actually write a lot of songs together.
