One thing I'm a little curious about is, how come whenever there's a REAL
(not just hypothetical) confrontation with the evil forces of government
(last November in Seattle comes to mind), the NRA and pro-gun,
anti-government right-wing types are nowhere to be seen, just when their
freedom-defending hardware would be most appreciated?

Maybe they'd rather just shoot off their mouths...

I have a little background info, as I remember their records, signed posters and some of their pictures taken from live shows .They were father & son (Mr Ott and Jake) from D.C. -while Jake had the image of the long-haired heavy guitar hippie, "daddy" Mr Ott (wig, red fingernails) was the "adult" songwriter and showman (whatever that means). They released 3 diff. 45s on the own label ("heaven's of hell" was the 3rd and final - "I could puke" was the 2nd) + a 12" in the late 80s...

is this the one that's been out for a bit? i got a repress of this about 5
months ago at the las vegas grind and the sound is generally terrible. i'd

asked. Your computer's sound card needs to be up to scratch, though.

I am a little curious myself. What has the NRA ever said that makes you think that their
lack of involvement in Seattle's riots somehow represents hypocrisy on their part? I am
neither a gun owner nor a member of the NRA, but it seems clear to me that if a riot erupted
in my neighborhood and an unruly crowd of rampaging revolutionaries started burning and
destroying everything in their path I would most likely be a lot more able to successfully defend
my home if I had a gun, wouldn't I? Or how about if someone breaks into your home in the middle
of the night and you're forced to confront them. Again, you will probably have a much greater chance of
emerging from such a confrontation safely if you have a firearm. The NRA is simply dedicated to making
sure that law abiding Americans are not deprived of their constitutional right to own a firearm. Yeah, they
do go a little overboard from time to time, but they have never, to my knowlege, advocated running through
the streets with guns-a-blazing in response to hooliganism on the part of rioting citizens.

>Not a "Clintonista", either, thanks very much. Just thought I'd point out

I know nothing about these groups and have never heard their music. But can

I think that you CAN tell a lot about a band from their name, then and now.

(I would say the same about Good Feelin's but my Bush argument seems

As for band names...to a certain extent I'd agree that a bad name usually
means a bad band. A recent exception though was my latest purchase: The Boys
Next Door (60's group from Indianapolis). One would think they'd be lame-O,
but the CD was really good.

I've read many a statistic stating that one is far MORE likely to be injured
during a break in if there is a gun at hand as a) it will scare or enrage
the criminal, and b) many gun owners don't really know what they're doing.

Anyway, back to Thee Headcoats - HEY PJ, Romain's right about the bigger

their is nothing wrong with discussing such issues though. Just because
its a bomp list dosn't mean we shouldn't eventually talk about other stuff....

Dunno if still available, but check both Bomp and Midnight mail-order
on-line. It was indeed a CD and was followed-up by a second volume called
"Pretty Ugly". Pretty good stuff, but not fantastic sound.

There doesn't even have to be a real burgler involved. A more likely scenario
is that a gunowner shoots himself and/or a family member because he hears a
strange noise, THINKS it's a burglar and panics.
Sorry, Jen. Couldn't resist.

Thanks to all for the info about the Creatures reissue. I didn't see it
listed in the bomp catalogue. Do they have it? Any other mailorders in the
US that carry it?(is Top Shelf a US mailorder) If not, I'll have to get it
from another continent but I figured I can avoid the high postage cost...

I doubt that it's the same band, but I have a 45 by a band called "The
Bush." "I'm wanting Her" is either blues influenced garage, or garage
influenced blues, and "Who killed the Ice Cream Man?" is a novelty song
(like it could be anything else with that title.

Strigles asked:
Does anyone have information to share on these late 60's bands: GOOD
FEELIN'S and BUSH? I know they came from the San Bernardino/Riverside
area of California and had a few local top ten hits. They have a track
each on Pebbles Vol 8 & 9, but I'd like more info if available.

Both are in Fuzz, Acid And Flowers - check the web version at
www.delerium.co.uk (go to Archives, then click on the Fuzz... book).

If you all want to talk about this stuff, that's fine. I, however, thought
it was a forum to discuss Bomp-related and other cool music. If I wanted to
join some sort of political forum or discussion about rights, all I need to
do is search for an email list on that subject. I honor everyone's opinion,
but my opinion is that this isn't the right place for it. That's all.

Thanks, cranky Jen

that oft-passed quote supposedly from Hitler is probably made up for
effect. I worked at the US National Archives from '91-95 and the people
in Captured German Records complained about that one all the time. If
you find a source for the quote there are dozens of historians who would
die to find it. But back in the early 90s all those German-speaking
history PhDs just couldn't figure out where that quote was invented
from. Of course, I'll give anyone the benefit of the doubt that it is
true, but you know, there's no proof that it is. After all, the major
gun control legislation in 1930s Germany was passed by the Weimar
republic-- to stop Nazi street violence! The oft-quoted Nazi-era "gun
control" act of March 1938 is actually a law restricting the sale of
military-grade (non-hunting) weapons to dealers with authorized
licenses. licenses. I mean, you know, I worked with German historians
here and I don't base my knowledge of the world from internet sig
lines. Isn't the reality that Nazi Germany went ahead and armed the
Volksturm(sp???) or People's Army which militarized "oild men and wives"
so that every German citizen could defend it?

oh jeez. ok you asked for this, they were a father and son band in the
1970s, hangers on to the blues-punk scene which spawned Root Boy Slim in
DC, Tex Rubinowitz, etc. and the father was arrested as a pedophile in
the early 90s and he was all over the news for weeks after the abduction
(and total dissappearance) of a boy in his neighborhood, though he was
never charged for that crime. From what I remember, the main suspect in
the kidnapping dropped the dime on him, so it was never clear what the
heck happened. He is in jail for possession of child porn and I think
some assaults dating back to the 1970s. a very fucked up story. I
could not rouse any copies of these articles at the Washington Post
online site, only picked up an article from 1984(??).

They put out at least 4 or 5 singles spanning punk rock to synthpop and
maybe 2 eps or lps.

CDs I recently bought and would recommend:
Fuzz, Flaykes and Shakes 1+2
Psychedelic Crown Jewels
Beat At Cinecitta 1 (and 2 which I bought last summer)
