It's also on CD (or was) because I've got one. Hardcore Stones fans will
probably not appreciate the way some of those songs have been ... interpreted,

particularly sides 3 and 4.

let's not forget eddie palmieri in this thread---he did an album in the
early 70's whose title i can not remember which took one tune and did it in
ten different styles---cubano, salsa, merengue, etc etc---he is still
putting out great discs

Re: "Exile" only being released on cassette--I HAVE a single LP version of
this release that has the first two sides of "Exile". Now my question is,
does anyone know whether this was legit or not? Yeah, it's sloppy and
noisy, but it's worth pulling out about once a year for me these days.
Their version of "I'm A No Count" is more serviceable if you ask me. Any
info on the LP would be greatly appreciated. I also could tape it if anyone
cares. Mail me offlist if you are.

Yeah--since you've given him a taste of a few of the best of those carrying
the garage torch already, it's time to get back to basics! Tape this dude
the bands who taught the folks on Tape #1 how to play in the first place!
You know the drill--start with the Sonics and go NUTS! I realize that for
the
folks on this list I'm only belaboring the obvious (like Evan said, we could
all
be naming bands all day), but I wouldn't wanna play with ANYONE till they'd
heard these, for example:

Sonics--He's Waitin'
Pink Fairies--Do It
Flamin' Groovies--Teenage Head
Velvet Underground--I Heard Her Call My Name

to say nothing of the Stooges, Troggs, ? & the Mysterians, Standells,
Trashmen, Chocolate Watch Band, 13th Floor Elevators and... Well, heck, if
you're talking Garage 101 here, by all rights you shouldn't get to the
contents of the first tape you made till NEXT semester at LEAST...

HEY,

I can certainly comment on the two finnish bands:

Apulanta: really popular in Finland. Finnish speaking punk/alternative oriented
rock with quite a bit teen angst. THey have translated some of their material
in english so that's propably what they're doing in Austin. Nirvana & Weezer are
big influences and you can hear it.

Lemonator: American style modern power-pop. Posies used to be their biggest role
model. They're a little too clean cut, a tad too "ambitious" version of that
kind
of pop played & sang with a "professional" touch.

that's it

Seems that your band list got loadsa "non-garage" bands, and about which i
don't know anything bout them...

True stoner band. Did get good echoes from their live shows, but their
records didn't ring my bell at all (boring is an euphemism). Seem however to
be a reference for stoner fans. Gonna send you their CD so that you can make
up your point of view bout them
