Hello

Thanks to all the the people that acknowledged my
message in any form and a special thanks to Mojo
for the information on the ripples cds. Now that I
have an idea what's on them I'd only buy them if they
were very cheap.
I'm very sorry about the caps lock business.
I was just being lazy.

Harry-
As fascinating as all that info is, it's the fact that Mr. Ott was
arrested a few years ago for corrupting (ie; molesting) young teenage boys
that is the real true grit here! Now that that's been said, go back and
carefully examine the photo on the cover of their 45, "spastic" (I believe
thats the name of it...it's the green tinted one with Ott and Jake gazing
lovingly at one another while st=itting under a tree)...SCARY!!!

WDOA.COM internet radio is now back from the cyber-hell of a bad hosting
company. Having now completed our switch to a new web-hosting company
following a disastrous end of 1999 and beginning of 2000 we are now once
again updating shows on wdoa.com. I just got done posting a brand new "Life
In The Foodchain" (punk and garage, the chicken soup of rock 'n' roll).
Other shows on our site will be updated over the next week.

All Programs are available in G2 Real Audio. You listen when you want, just
drop by http://www.wdoa.com and listen to the program you want.

BTW if you are in a band and have something you think we might play send it
along to

We can handle vinyl, CD, and cassette.

be doing some quality-control at breweries in the Antwerp-

anything worth checking out at night (shows at Democrazy,

As for France, we may be in Paris on the weekend of the 11th/12th

I have a friend who lived in Providence RI in the early '80s, who was
dating girl that lived in this small studio apartment. She would always
complain that there is this "horrible band" that played next door, had
parties, made hideous racket, etc. He went over to her place one day when
they were playing and loved it... He later found out that it was Pussy
Galore. He finally married the girl, but got divorced years later... must
have been the Royal Trux albums or something....

Don't know how true it is...

I think he got about 3 percent of the vote for mayor.
That's what I heard on the radio, but they also said
he ran in '79 but I swear it was much, much later
('89?).

Yes, apparently he has stated he is running for
President of the U.S.A. and his running mate is the
death-row inmate who is on death row for allegedly
killing a police officer. The guy's first name is
Mumia, I can't remember his last name. (Al-Jafal or
something. . . )   Jello's obviously pulling a Perot;
he KNOWS he'd never win, but is just going to run to
stir things up and maybe take some votes away from
someone else.

I will have to agree with Nipper on this one. Man were
these guys great! Lo-fi blues punk loaded with snot

five times and even at their worse (they nearly came
to blows on stage and screamed at each other between
songs), they were amazing. Screw The Blues Explosion
and that Royal Trux crap, Pussy Galore Now!
You can also get a CD sampler of their greatest stuff
called "Corpse Love" that has bits from everything
they recorded, including their song-by-song cover of
"Exile". And Nipper, I would love to get a hold of a

bit the dust long ago. Contact me off list and maybe

Hey Evan,

Before you go ahead and order "Right Now" let me tell you, I dig Pussy
Galore but it's not gonna be your typical Oblivians/BFTG garage combination
you might envision in your head. The most garage a la BFTG record of theirs
and probably my favorite is "Groovy Hate Fuck" whcih was reissued on a cd by
Caroline with way more tracks. That one is like 60's garage played in a
Cramps/Gories way sans bass but even more lo fi and out of tune. There are
some great songs on there that are actually catchy in their own way like
"You Look Like A Jew", "Asshole" and "Cunt Tease". I'll see if I can get you
a tape of this stuff but you might have to wait a while. After that record
they got more noise damaged and sometimes kinda arty but in a da da kinda
way. There is a great track "My Sweet Little Hi-Fi" on their "Sugarshit
Sharp" 12". "Right Now" is good too but perhaps a little more no wave and
twisted than you're used to.

Yeah, "Demention Of Sound" is the best freakbeat comp I've heard as far as
songs and sequence, etc. It's just a shame it's got sub par sound quality
(yes too compressed). Still listenable and I had to get it even though the
reissue is a bit expensive now as well. I really dig the "Echoes In The
Wilderness/Journey Through the Sugar Cube" comps but haven't heard "Purple
Pill Eaters" yet. Do you think it's the best of this trilogy Lee?

Lee SoundViews asked:

«speaking of brit r&b/freakbeat, i'm curious what are some of people's fave

Beyond the ancient "Beat Merchants" and really ancient "Hard Up Heroes" I
particularly like the Sequel albums which appeared ten or so years ago and
which came complete with Brian Hogg sleeve notes. There were two volumes of
R'n'B (I have the second on CD and the first on vinyl), one of Beat, a
volume dedicated to obscure Immediate releases and a couple of accompanying
sets of UK Soul and Pop. After Christmas I finally purchased the recent
"Freakbeat Freakout" CD, also on Sequel, which duplicates several tracks
from the above and, for my money at least, confuses the Freakbeat tag by
including poppier items alongside r'n'b pounders (ie the Primitives). All
good stuff nonetheless. With regards to the Decal releases, the Beat R'n'B
and Freakbeat volumes are well worth investing your money in. Sound quality
is taken direct from the masters and the packaging is very good. Fancy a
little bootleg action, then look no further than "Maximum R'n'B" which
features the Wheels, Birds, David John et al with, once again, excellent
sound and the bass mastered full-on. I believe the same people also put out
a "Freakbeat" album but I have not heard that one yet. Anyone out there own
it?

Diggin' the majestic sounds on that damp and foggy isle

Another dusty but good comp was "Searchin' in the Wilderness", which
included the title track by Allan Pounds' Get Rich, I'm Losing Tonight by A
Passing Fancy among others. Most of this record was comped elsewhere
eventually, but this is quite a collection and I have yet to find a copy,
daggone it.

Even with the full knowledge of who's list this is, I will still say I like
"Pebbles, Vol. 6" on vinyl. The Fairies, David John and the Mood, Steve
Aldo and the ringers Bill and Will, this was the first comp of the R&B from
Britain that I had gotten, but it still holds up rather well.

More recently, English Freakbeat (Vol. 3?) has some great sides, "Walking
Walking Walking" by the Favourite Sons, and pre-Kinks Ravens material,
this is a good one and cheap too.

biafra is nothing but a man of lots of hot air and no substance.

if he would for some reason win, the country would slide dramatically, since

he would make political correctness the law.

Nope, 79, came in fourth.......... was living there in '89, and he did
not run.

Mumia Abu-Jamal, the big poster boy for Rage Against the Machine' s
benefits, as well as several other bands.........and a polarizing figure
for death penalty opponents. (Apologies for bringing them up).........I
DID actually read something recently about this maybe in the Bay
Guardian or the SF Weekly, but keep in mind, at the yearly anarchist
fest & at the Anarchist Bookstore, the AK press guard, etc, zealous SF
anarchists have always floated that one, and now....well, just keep in
mind a convicted felon isn't even a legal candidate, so it's all moot
anyway.

Chris introduced me to Jello in '91, & he was polite, proper,
well-mannered......etc. Quite a gent.

yeah, he was great in the kennedys but now he's gonna jump on the mumia
band wagon. i would have preffered that he make some of the valid points
to be made against the death penalty rather than try and attach his rep to
the cause of mumia's (in my opinion) rather dubious claim to innocence.
but i don't think biafra could be any worse than the other turkeys queing
up for the job. least he once had a good punk band.

Me too !. But when I last heard from him he was involved in various
flame wars with some garage bands he had insulted, so not
everybody felt the same way. Oh well, I guess he'l pop up again
somewhere one of these days.

Sorry, this would've been sent earlier but my brand new computer fucking
died...

anyway...Uh, I don't "get" how the Oblivains are not like Pussy Galore, but
ARE "like the Gories"? Huh? Whatever, all non-bass no-fi/noisey R&B based
garage bands kinda have to be judged against PG, as up to '86 no one else
was pushing such bullshit to such an extreme, tho' as time has passed the
template has become well worn, ie. the (lame) Retards (or is it the
Reatards however you spell the name, they're on Goner) and the Blacks...but
then I don't waste money on those records and don't really care...

Right, so as I understand the story...um, the legend, PG recorded Exile in
response to Sonic Youth's want to record the entire Beatle's White Album,
of which, to my knowledge, they never recorded one note from. While,
obviously, PG went ahead and recorded Exile, in its entirety, as it was
interpreted/mutated by Mister Neil Haggerty on the spot, in sequense, and
then shown to the band to be recorded. Thats all, turns out its really
nothing anyone, save for those who collect or luv the band, really needs,
its basiclly an obnoxious practice tape thats kinda funny...

Oh, and I don't get the BFTG connection either...but fuck it, it is there
(explicitly) with the Cheater Slicks/Bantam Rooster/Gories! None of whom
are too far removed from PG! Hell, I always played PG as sounding like the
Rolling Stones! Also, not all the PG records are availible as Historica de
la Musica remains (gratefully?) un-reissued. Hey, why didn't anyone
mention the Gibson Brothers/'68 Comeback influence on Spencer post PG...he
toured, recorded with them, and of that was born yer JSBX, pre-Techno remix
incarnation...please anyone near the band ask them to split up now, and
I'll work on Kalvin...cool?

In terms of PG as an "arty" band, any writer can pull some stupid fucking
theory out of his/her respective ASS and present it as truth, its their
job, so fuck 'em, hell fuck me TOO...

>Anyone ever heard 20 Miles the Juda Bauer (JSPBX)

The first Lp was a good start, along with the 3x45 set, but I never heard
the 2nd LP as I got a 45 culled from it, and the sound,...er, the fidelity
was "up graded", yuck...did I really miss something?

>Bob Log 3 is what i call wild R'N'R

The Log ain't Rn'R its wild folk blues silly (sookey style?), he is
BRILLANT and fun...same goes for Doo Rag! Hes the only fella I'll go see
EVERYTIME he plays!

Lastly, tho' most of the Fat Possum roster is solid...try to avoid the
Neckbones and RL Burnside's unfortunate LP of Disco/Techno mixes...
