Hooray! These are two of the best newer bands around and an affiliation
with Bomp/Voxx is very keen indeed.

Kopper,

I'm similarly intrigued since the Sats are one of my faves. I got my
Shapes of Sound vinyl from Bomp and I've sent Suzy a heads-up on the new
disc/album. So I hope Bomp will come through soon. Good luck and if ya
track it down somewhere else, please lemme know.

Rocky.

Got two of their 45s, "Open Up Your Door" with the
picture sleeve, and a promo copy of "You Can Make It."

So, yeah, I'm a fan. But what else did they do that
was good?

First of all, any Bomp Digest subscribers want to give me your little tip on
how to reply to the list easily, without having to delete all that quoted
text!? I guess just pasting the particular message and subject heading into
a clean message to the list.
On the subject of Lou Reed, not considering myself part of any "literate
intelligentsia music crowd and critics" (although some people may argue that
one) and being a Lou Reed and Velvets fan.... I mean I guess your wrong! To
recycle this thread in a more obscure Lou vein how about the Beachnuts Cycle
Annie for some really stupid/juvenile Lou...
But you could argue that the wide open sort of songs that Lou did were
glorifying/advocating (??) really stupid subjects like getting your ass
whipped and shooting heroin.
The Lester and Lou interviews really have to be read to be believed. It is
amazing that two supposedly well educated and respected guys could come
across like that. I do think though that Lester played into Lou's wierdo
game to some degree. Again more proof that a dufus like that could hardly
appeal to any supposed "literate intelligentsia music crowd and
critics"!!!!!
"it's my wife and it's my life" indeed! When my shcizophrenic sister heard
that line years ago she couldn't think of a funnier lyric...
On an ending note, I think Lou wrote some of the smartest, and most
beautiful rock and roll songs of all time, but he was definitely not against
flaunting his unchecked stupidity. I mean, I was able to sell a copy of
Metal Machine Music that I had picked up for $3 canadian to someone for $45
can, what kind of supposedly intelligent music fan would fork out that coin
for 4 sides (64 minutes) of feedback scrawl? I know who, I sold it to them
but....

How bout the flip to "Open Up Your Door", it's called
"Once Upon Your Smile", I like that song, eventhough
it's a ballad.

Subject: Saturday Night's Alright... Despite

My original plan for the night was to stop at Nightingales first, see
whoever I could, then go to the Continental to see The Real Kids and The
Waldos. (Yeah, I was willing to miss The Rattlers - they never excited me
all that much.) First, tho', I'd check in at Continental to see what time
The Real Kids were slated to go on.

I figured I'd try and find a parking spot by Continental, so I wouldn't
have to walk too far to my car after the show. And I got a good one. Well,
I'd been having a feeling for about a week or so that The Real Kids were
gonna cancel. Sure enough, I got to the door and didn't see their name on
the white board. I asked the guy at the door... Sure enough, I'd guessed
right.

So, rather than give up my spot and search for another half hour, taking
the chance of ending up even further away, I left well enough alone and
walked up to Nightingales.

The Push Ponies (with Thee Great Scott Dense on drums) were rockin' out
when I got there. Damn good, and Luke from the Heartdrops plays bass and
sings.

The Easy Livin' were next up, doing their thing to fine effect. One pal of
mine walked in on their encore and didn't like 'em, but personally I
thought they rocked it up in a noisy Cramps-style.

Third on the card were the group many had come to see, John Henry.
Ostensibly a one-off, this group featured ex-Raunch Hands' singer Michael
Chandler (vocals/harp/kazoo), Mitro Valsamis (ex-Vacant Lot, Trick Babys,
Bowery Rhythm Kings, and currently in The Cash Registers) on guitar, Mike
Zadroga (ex-Vacant Lot, plus one or two Boston bands I can't remember right
now) on drums, and... well, a guy I didn't know on bass. (Seth something, I
think his name was.) Their set was pure covers - mainly R&B - but lotsa
fun. Stuff like "She Said Yeah," "I'm A Hog For You," "Please Give Me
Something," "I'm Gona Be A Wheel," etc.

Last up were The Dark Marbles, playing to a house that was just about
clear. After about an hour or so, tho', I realized I was pretty damn tired
and said goodnight myself. (Sorry guys... But I've gotta go out to look for
a new place to live in the AM.)

Also tonight... Watched Xena: Warrior Princess. They had a Battle Of The
Bands. Yeah, the whole thing was done up like a musical, but the Battle
was... Well, it had a battle!

The first band up was led by an evil warlord who's under a spell that put
him in love with Gabrielle. She's rejected him so he decides she's gonna
die. He puts her in a cage (in a nice go-go outfit) while he gets up there
with his band, decked out in black leather, looking pure heavy metal
kitsch. And he says they're gonna "Kick Out The Jams!"

Eventually, Gabrielle gets free and stage dives, then body-surfs her way
across the crowd. Warlord guy tries to dive as well, but the crowd parts
like the Red Sea and he goes OOF. Then a fight ensues with him vs. Xena.

To quote The Smugglers, "Rock And Roll Was Never This Fun."

in response to the sage that is greg shaw, i have a
few things to say about some bomp bands that have been
ignored for the few months that i have been on the

i was wondering about blair 1523. what is their

but then i am a sucker for that certain type of psych.
also a huge fan of spacemen 3 and brian jonestown

stuff is of course based in the 60's vibe but
stretched out via a post modern ideal. and don't dare
not calling it rock-n-roll.
