I believe Greil Marcus's book "Mystery Train" has a chapter on Sly.

Well I hope you don't mind if I disagree with you - I think that album
(which he recorded with John Cale) is stronger than most of Reed's solo
stuff. It was a tribute to Andy Warhol released in 1990 and it featured
some very good songs, especially those sung by Cale (Style It Takes,
Trouble With Classicists, etc.).

If you're interested in low power radio, check out www.live365.com, you
can set up your own virtual radio station there and reach the entire
world. I dunno if any Bomp-style music is there, but I've listened to a
show on there called "Jangle Radio" a number of times and it's chock full
of really excellent power pop.

Be seeing you,
Bill

well, if you would smoke pot while listenting to metal machine you would
think it was worth $45 (probably even more). Sure it sounds like a $3 record
when you are sober and bland. but try getting stoned to it and you will see
the difference, I assure you.

I mean, I was able to sell a copy of Metal Machine Music that I had picked
up for $3 canadian to someone for $45 can, what kind of supposedly
intelligent music fan would fork out that coin for 4 sides (64 minutes) of
feedback scrawl? I know who, I sold it to them but..

huh. while I don't doubt it, this is totally opposite my experience. I
think it may be because I am only buying or selling "hit" singles (I
can't spend the $50+ prices for rare singles) and there are more stock
copies of songs that sold.

Subject: Promo VS. Stock Copy of 45's

Stock copies of a 45 usually are worth more than promo
copies.
Sometimes, stock is worth much more. I know that I personally like stock

copies because they usually have the nicer color labels vs. the plain
white
labels of many promo copies.
I have traded NM stock copies of a record for the same NM
record
(promo) copy, plus I received a good record kicked in to sweeten the
deal.
That tells you something.

Subject: Promo Vs. Stock Copies...

I think the Bomp list should discuss stuff like this (sorry Laraunt):

>>Maybe not, but when I got that record, I got it at a show and the guy
selling it also had a stock copy. But the promo and the stock were both the
same price, so I got the promo. Also, I don't know why, but I've always
been fascinated by promo copies ever since I
started collecting records when I was a kid. The promo's probably worth a
little more, but more importantly, I like how loud the 45's mixed. It
explodes when you play it, just like all good 45s should, in my humble
opinion.<<

When it comes to non-hit (i.e., non-selling) garage 45's, the Stock (color
label) copies are much harder to find than white label (promo) copies. I've
been obtaining (see, I 'collect' them, but collecting to me is like a word
for items like stamps, where you just "look" at them, and place tem in a
binder or booklet, and gaze at 'em.  I 'obtain' 45's because I PLAY them;
they are as vital as the air I breathe) 45's for over 20 years now. The
black label stock copies of Richard & Young Lions 45's are much harder to
come by than the promos. "Open Up Your Door" was a huge regional hit that
only made #99 on Billboard (Mr. Bereta can correct me if I'm wrong) and that
one shows up as a stock often. The 2nd, "Nasty" is kinda hard, and the 3rd,
"You Can Make It" is real tuff. The fact that they came out on Philips, a
label that pressed their 45's on the shitty polystyrene plastic means the
copies that surface often have groove distortion and sound like shit.

And remember, if it weren't for us "Record Collectors" like Mr. Shaw and the
crew, you guys wouldn't be able to get the music you love and crave. Lots
of collector guys ARE real creeps; but there are several who know what it's
all about. Don't bite the hand that feeds you...

Subject: Honkeys Invade Wayback Machine (1/23/00)

We were honored to present almost an entire hour of one of St. Louis' most
exciting up-and-coming rock'n'roll bands, The Honkeys, as they blasted
through three sets and about 18 songs of Farfisa organ fueled,
reverb-drenched instrumental/surf wildness Saturday night. It's definitely
refreshing to see a group of (very) young musicians playing a style of music
that most people have either disregarded as unimportant, relegated to movie
soundtracks or background music, or forgotten about entirely. Who knows...
maybe they'll help to resurrect a sound that at one time was fairly common
in the Midwest, despite its landlocked geography. Thanks to KDHX/Sounds
About Town's Nick & Dale who helped make them sound so good! Here's how the
show sounded in text format:

Do you know which year this LP (Vol.2, that is) was released?
