Hi,
what is weird with my pages? If you click on order on the left panel (a Java
Aplet) there is order & then order terms! There is also a online ordering
page! It should work! Please in any case let me know if there are
difficulties (what browser do you work with) & I ask my webmaster to solve
it! Hope to hear about it, best
Lutz

I did answer you personally about your order of Satelliters as well..

Hello BOMP!ers. This week, a complete broadcast where two callers
expressed their concern for the show what with the technical troubles of late
and all and one (a fellow 'MFO DJ) asked if I could complete a broadcast
without breaking something. No respect at all.
The first hour I played long mostly folk & jazz-inspired psych tunes
which I had been jonesing, many of which I'd played on previous C & S

shit, and greasy R & B.

darn... Lada was definitely a Hullabaloo dancer, but I thought I was
thinking about Carol Shelyne. I think I'm showing my youth here when I
can honestly say I can't remember who is who. At my parents' house I
have the photo of the dancer-with-glasses on the Patty Duke show, so if
I miraculously get some free time, I'll scan it in.

Carol was on Out of Sight though, because I checkd her name in the
credits. Which band guested on Patty Duke? Shindogs? I have to wonder
now if it wasn't the Hullabaloo band.

I gotta go to work and this thing is going to stick in my head all day
now.

no, wait, Patty Duke was on at 8:30 and Shindig was on at 9pm both on
wednesdays on ABC, so it would have had to have been been Carol Shelyne
since she was on shindig.

And I would have been born how many years later...

Lads you gone have to ad a new band to your list.
We are 3 (maybe 4 in a few weeks) called "LES TRICHEURS"
playing wild r'n'r sometimes in french, sometimes in english.
My pal "Jean-Phoulard" on guitar, Henry Rock on Bass (Paul
Beuscher guitar with 3 bass cords on a cheap guitar amp, we
call it "natural fuzz") and your man on ba ba boum drums.
We're from Corbeil and thought the Essonne tree as name but the
Essonne five where first on this project so... (thanks to JP).
So Laurent, Rudy, Iwan, Cecilia, the Battle gone be rude.
Always with fair play we'll be ready to hit the place in a few
weeks. See you at le café montmartre on saturday night anyway.

Battle of the bands would be a good idea, got to reopen the
Golf Drouot for one night.

A question for all of you Boston and NYC garage rock hounds:

Who is Bill Tupper?

I have a couple of tapes at home with this crazed guy hyperventilating about
the respective talents of the Lyres (WERS Broadcast) and the Fleshtones
(Boston Arms, London '83). He talks at breakneck speed and during one
memorable instance claims: "This ain't no synthesiser bullshit daddy!". I
am reliably informed that he is still around and even made an appearance at
Cavestomp '99 with musical backing from the above gentlemen. ;-)

Does anyone wish to elaborate about Tupper?

AOL sucks. You must remember this before all things. AOL is for child
molesters and your grandma. Do not sign up for an AOL account.

So your first choice is between a national ISP and a local ISP. You need
to ask yourself some questions:

Do you have a laptop and do you need access in other cities?
Do you need web space? How much?
Do you need geek stuff - like shell accounts, etc?
How important is decent tech support to you?

National ISPs are (often) cheaper, allow you to roam, and are reasonably
consistent. Downside is level of service - small amounts of web space,
no extra features, long hold times on tech support. Recommended are
Earthlink, MSN.

Local ISPs offer bigger amounts of web space, shell accounts, multiple
email addresses (your mileage may vary) and answer the phone when you
call them. You'll need to ask questions about their back-end
connectivity - look for redundant connections to the backbone.

A real danger is that a local ISP could be acquired by a national ISP.
I've seen three locals eaten in the Bay Area in the past year.

An incredibly comprehensive guide to ISPs is at
http://thelist.internet.com/

and AOL is slower, non-standard, doesnt give you a proper internet
connection, uses a non-standard browser and will leave you subject to
ridicule by geeks.

(Apologies to any current AOL users on the list)

I was with Interport, a small NYC ISP, for years until they sold out to RCN
a year or two ago. As soon as RCN took over the service went straight into
the dumper, plus they started taking away features that made Interport
unique. In the meantime, and before I knew how bad things were going to
get, I'd moved to Jersey so I signed up with Erols thinking that eventually
it would tie in with my old Interport account. I had frequent problems
with busy signals and inability to connect, so after a couple of months I
bailed.

(On the other hand, my Mom who lives in suburban Boston has had an Erols
account since she retired about a year and a half ago and she seems quite
happy with it. I think there's at least one Bomp-er with Erols also.
Maybe I was just in a bad area for them.)

I went from Erols to Mindspring. (Hi Brian! Hi Brian!) Mindspring was
great... never a problem connecting. Unfortunately I had to move again
last fall, and there were no local Mindspring numbers in my new town --
they were all regional toll calls, which cost a fortune. (My first phone
bill after I moved was in the low three figures, but that's another story.)
Grudgingly, I switched to Earthlink which has a number in the town next
door (and, coincidentally, they're merging with Mindspring). They've been
almost as good... once in a while I get a busy signal but I usually get
through after no more than 5 attempts.

Good luck Andrea -- hope all this info helps instead of making you more
confused! Feel free to e-mail me if you have other questions.

Evan

Its not only Phillips, Golden Crest...I have plenty of 45/LPs on Atlantic,
Soma, Mala, Autumn and others in M-/Ex shape that play the music in stiff
competition with the sound of "frying eggs". Christ, there's nothing
worse than gettin' home with handfuls of (expensive) new wax and never
wanting to play it again or having to search, AGAIN, in hopes of finding
another, possibly non-distorted copy...and as nice as they may be, its hard
to determine the quality of a pressing on dealers crappy sounding battery
operated turntables! However, there is sometimes a tell-tale dull greyish
haze on the surface, which is indicative of the distortion! How come this
happens? Is it that there are microscopic fractures in the wax? Should I
be asking the squares at Goldmine?

To all concerned,

D.I.Y. released 9 of the discs.
UK Punk I (1976-77)
UK Punk II (1977-78)
UK Power Pop I (1976-78)
UK Power Pop II (1978-79)
The New York Scene (1975-78)
California Scene (1976-79)
American Power Pop I (1975-78)
American Power Pop II (1978-79)
Massachusetts Avenue (1975-1983)

D.I.Y. needs to be complimented with "New Wave Hits"
Vol. 1-15. The downside of "New Wave Hits" that it
tends to have too much "dry dance tunes", but it has
plenty of material that was very much the staple of
early 80s college radio alternative rock.

My personal favorite has been "Post Punk Chronicles."
I'm an 80 DJ at a local nightclub in Raleigh, North
Carolina. They compell me to play mainstream rock
during the majority of the evening; however, I do
expose the crowd to the Comsat Angels, the Lyres,
Jonathan Richman, Iggy and the Stooges, Joy Division,
the Fall, Teardrop Explodes, Billy Bragg, Echo and
the Bunnynmen, the Fleshtones, etc. The response
from these unsuspecting young kids has been mixed.

Peggy was playing with Matt from the Royal Pendletons
for a while, I also think this cat in New Orleans Art
Boonparn may have been involved.

I use Erols/Starpower in the Washington D.C. area and have had great
experiences with it. Never a busy signal, always high connect speeds, good
customer service. I'm renewing my contract today, in fact.

Aha, a chance to plug the slightly re-designed Bomp List Archives! If
you've been to the archives lately you may have noticed that all e-mail
addresses in message headers have been altered so that the domain name
(the part to the right of the '@') is replaced by 'x'-es. This will
shield posters' addresses from the automated programs that collect e-mail
addresses from web pages. I'm sure some of you are thinking (as you
delete your spam) that it's already too late for that, but it can't hurt.
Also, e-mail address mentioned in the body of a message (including
signatures) are left intact.

(And let this also serve as one of my periodic reminders that all Bomp
posts are archived and publicly available.)

Anyway, a quick trip to http://www.xnet2.com/bomp/searchable/ and a search
on secret service power and volume reveals several messages, including
this from Bill Jones:

>I'm happy to offer the following import CDs (new) from some Spanish
>labels at the special price of only $10 + postage. Send e-mail to
>wigout6@juno.com, quantities are limited.
>
>The Secret Service - Power and Volume (Snap!! Records)

... and some other stuff. Of course, that message was from August so that
limited quantity is probably long gone. Another message Bill sent in June
said:

>You can also buy The Secret Service Cd for a bit more at these fine
>websites:

The bottom line: for Secret Service info, contact Bill Jones at the
address above!

If ever a recording was made for 8 track, it's Metal Machine Music. Four
sections of EXACTLY the same length. A piece what can be started and ended
at any point within the work. Even the "ka-chunk" sound the tape makes when
changing tracks fits in!

Carole Shelyne (with the glasses) also cut a great Girl Group sound 45 on
Liberty, "Boys Do Make Passes at Girls Who Wear Glasses." The flip side
is cool too - I forget the title right now. Anybody know if she recorded
anything else? I checked the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) and
she is only listed in two movies and Shindig. The other movie is from
1976, called Dark August. It doesn't appear to be a major studio
release (no distributor is credited). She also was on episodes of some TV
shows, one of which was Star Trek. In the episode called The Arena,
she played "The Metron." I think I can vaguely recall this, and she
didn't have glasses on and looked pretty attractive - probably Capt. Kirk
was trying to get into her pants too.

Hey Bompers,

Hope you don't mind me pluggin' something I'm involved
with....

I've recently written about Beachwood Sparks and
Small Stone for a column I write (Notes From The Left
Coast) that's published in Vendetta fanzine (out of
Cambridge, MA). Both of these bands are among the
best we have here in L.A. right now and some of the
others mentioned in the same column (Black Rebel
Motorcycle Club, Wiskey Biscuit, Eagle) might interest
some of you too once they have albums out.

Also, I'm interviewing Beachwood Sparks for the next
Vendetta (possibly for a few other rags/mags too). The
new SubPop/Bomp LP is quite good (especially if you
like "rambling, open-tuned Mojave rock similar to
countrified mid-to-late Sixties acts The Byrds, Flying
Burrito Bros., and Buffalo Springfield").

As for Small Stone, they're a terrific band too (I would
describe them as being "influenced by British 60's mod/
freakbeat bands and pyschedelicized, garagey
teen-rock bands: Love, the Bobby Fuller Four, et al.").
Can't wait to hear the Bomp CD, Greg.

Once again, Bomp! have two solid new bands on
the Bomp! horizon that are well-worth your $$ IMHO.

And speaking of Greg, there's also a pretty interesting
inteview with him (once again, it's by yours truly!!) in the
same issue of Vendetta. If you're interested in picking up
a copy of issue #13 and can't find the zine, send an e-mail
to editor/publisher Ben Vendetta at vendetta@altavista.net

There's also interviews/articles with Mark Lindsay (of
Paul Revere & the Raiders), The Go-Betweens, Outrageous
Cherry, and tons of good reviews. Worth

Thanks -- I now return you to your regular scheduled
Bomp! listings...
