Sorry, I see how confusing that wording is. I meant "re-recordings" of other
songs, NOT their own stuff. Geez, only "?" can get away with that!
Hmmm...how many "wanna' bet?", am I going to get?

Wow! That would be the ultimate, keep trying Jon, we're all rooting for
you! Wonder if they would still have the spark they had thirty five years
ago? They still sounded great on those '72 live
bonus trax on the BOOM reissue, so we'll see. Speaking of which, this leads
to a question I've been meaning to ask for a while: are there live 60s
recordings or any footage @ all of the Sonics?
That would totally blast the roof if true. The home recordings on Norton
are great, so I'm eager to
know if there's more stuff like this out there.

Did BOOM include the same live material as (I think) the 'For Fans Only' EP
on Etiquette? A friend of mine in Redmond WA. is the last word on all things
Sonics, memorabilia, et'c. and I think I asked him that same thing at one
time or another, and the answer was an unfortunate NO. I'll double check and
let you know if there is. (But, I'm pretty sure there isn't a blessed thing.)

Jon, thanx for looking into this. I was afraid there wouldn't be any live
footage or live 60s recordings around, but I guess we'll find out soon.
Their Etiquette records are such insane, blastin'
pieces of rock'n'roll, that I wonder how much more manic they were live.
Don't know if BOOM
includes the same stuff as the Etiquette ep, but I'm sure someone on this
list does.

Sounds cool. The most common radiogram brand in New Zealand was called "La
Gloria". They were locally assembled using british parts, most often badly
constructed and 20 times heavier than they needed to be, but they were
pretty much the only record players you could get here in the 50's and 60's.
And yeah - I can pick up European radio stations from down here! If you
check out the start page of my site and you'll cool 60's one that I have in
my lounge.

Hey

Get'em all , like right now. Muddy's stuff is essential. It's strictly delta,
little "young sounding" but he's style is cooking already. Better than the tunes
he cut
for Okeh between these recordings and Aristocrat. Son House is heavier stuff.
Muddy sounds younger and little light weight compared to him.
Son House 1940-42 is the kind of delta blues that scares you shitless and
captivates you at the same time.
I haven't heard ANY Hound Dog Taylor not worth buying. All Alligator albums for
example are just mind blowing.
and give me back my wig is a trip indeed.

Some unsolicited comments, to some of the topics in digest 41:

<<Silver Fleet: "Come On Plane"/"Look Out World" (UNI
55271)
I read somewhere that this was originally issued in
1971. Listening to "Come On Plane," I can believe
that. But "Look Out World" is a snot-filled rocker
that sounds like it was recorded 6 years later!
Produced by Katz-Kasenetz, the folks who brought you
The 1910 Fruitgum Co.>>

KEVIN GODLEY & LOL CREME WERE INVOLVED WITH KASENETZ-KATZ JUST PRIOR TO THE
FORMATION OF HOTLEGS (so was Graham Gouldman, who contributed "Sausalito" by
the Ohio Express). They appeared on many tracks under various names
(including Freddie & The Dreamers!!!!) and Silver Fleet was apparently one
of them. They also wrote the classic "There Ain't No Umbopo", probably
best-known by the Crazy Elephant, another name owned by Kasenetz-Katz.

<<The Cobblestones: "Down With It"/"Flower People"
(Mobie 3425)
"Flower People" is actually the A-side, a typical
flower-power effort with a bit more punch than a lot
them. But "Down With It" is an absolute instrumental
scorcher, with snarling fuzz guitar and organ work and
a righteous Bo Diddley beat. A gem!>>

"FLOWER PEOPLE" was a hit in Sarasota, Florida for some unknown reason! The
song is way better than the title, in a Byrdsish kind of way. Has anyone
ever played the b-side of "Beautiful People" by Kenny O'Dell? It's an
anti-hippie ballad called "Flower Girl" that has lots of charm, but no real
rock 'n roll energy. Cool though.

<<Hey,
Does anyone know the percentage of 60's punk songs that have the line
"walking down the street..." in it somewhere? I figure it to be around 32%
>>

Gee is that all you could figure? "She's About a Mover" came to mine.
But just 32%? I think there was alot more walking then.>>

TONS OF 'EM, but I think the most used phrase had to be 'COME ON'. Even in
modern garage! The Dropouts even named an album "Come On"! The Stones (via
Chuck Berry) are obviously responsible here. The great thing is almost
every garage song with "come on" featured prominently really rocks!

>> Which band guested on Patty Duke? Shindogs? I have to wonder
>>now if it wasn't the Hullabaloo band.
Shindogs. Wish someone would put out the finale of that episode, Patty Duke
singing "I'm Henry the VIII, I Am" complete with James Burton guitar solo.>>

I HAVE THAT ON VIDEOTAPE! Patty also does her near-hit, "Funny Little
Butterflies". Remember when there was this spooky fictional band called
"The Gories" on an episode of GIDGET? The first goths???? JEFF

I love minidisc .. I love their size, I love their price, I love the fact I
can tuck the recorder into my pants pocket. I love the fact they have better
sound than CD .. I love it ..
