HEY,

Caesar's are signed to Dolores which is now part of Virgin Sweden. Upper's is a
hobby label.
Dolores is serious shit. I hope they become massive all over the world. Youth is
wasted...
sold something like 10000-12000 which is not bad for a record that good. Ismail
Samie
is a great fucking guy. He's a pro who hasn't forgotten his mod-garage-psych
roots. He's a gentleman and one of the best soul&60's dj I know ( the
clubnights Lolita & Soulastatic they throw in Gothenburg are the best. We've
played Lolita twice and it's the BEST party!!)
The new Caesar's Palace is further removed from garage idiom but it packs just
so much punch it's amazing.
You'll love it I'm sure.

Subject: Song I.D.???

Hi all--

OK, this is a weird one... I've not heard the song in question, and it
sounds kinda artsy, and quite likely not very Bompish at ALL in nature, but
I
promised a pal I'd see if I could get any info for him through the
internet... I've had no luck anywhere else I've posted, but who
knows, maybe here? Does this ring a bell with ANYONE?

According to my friend, who acquired the tune while taping a college radio
show (since tape long since lost), the song seems like it HAD to have been
from the 80's, and all I
know is it contained the line:

"Birds eat the bugs off a rhinoceros' back, a symbiotic relationship that
proves the existence of God."

No sh*t. That's what it says.

Any ideas what the hell it is???

TIA,

Lenny

Subject: Re: Favourite Gigs

Iggy Pop--Harvard Square Theatre, Cambridge, MA, March, 1977
This was the Ig's big comeback tour, and this was the first US date on the
tour (he did one prior show in Canada). Bowie played keyboards, rhythm
section was Hunt and Tony Sales, Ricky Gradiner played guitar. I was too
young to have caught The Stooges, but Iggy was sooooo pumped for this it was
INCREDIBLE. Blondie opened, then Iggy came out and did a LOOOOOONG, KILLER
rocking set--Blistering! I had a really hard time getting tickets (it was
miscategorized by Ticketron, maybe because of the venue), and my tix were
supposed to be waiting for me at the Box Office. When I got there, they
couldn't find them, but they honored my receipt with press tickets for the
5th row center! Got some AMAZING pix that night, too, plus a look at the
Runaways, who were in attendance that night.

Run DMC, Whodini, LLCoolJ, Beastie Boys, Timex Social Club--Madison Square
Garden, 1985(? I think; first show of the Raising Hell tour)
OK, not Bompish I suppose, but I offer no apologies--this was EASILY one of
the 2 or 3 most exciting nights of music I've ever seen. Ended up backstage
at the Garden, courtesy of a friend who worked for Def Jam.

DMZ--Casco Bay Lines Booze Cruise in Portland, Maine, Summer of 1976 or 77
(whichever year Elvis died). Changed my life forever, and got me off my ass
and forming a punk band within weeks. Monoman says Don't Jump Me Mother was
written about this gig (there was a really big biker who was really into the
whole party scene of the event, but he made everybody a little nervous,
hogging everyone's booze and pot and such).

Real Kids--Casco Bay Lines Booze Cruise in Portland, Maine, Same summer as
above.
Whatta summer!!!

Ramones--CBGB's, 1977
First show of the Rocket to Russia tour. I'd gone to New Haven, CT for a
college interview--a bandmate and I drove down together, to stay with his
brother, who went to the school in question. His bro' pulled out the
listings for music in New Haven and in NYC, and within 30 minutes of
arriving on campus we were on our way to New York. Turned out to be the
kick-off of the Rocket To Russia tour. The Ramones moms were in the
audience. They did two shows; after the first, everyone was supposed to be
herded out and you'd have to pay again to see the second show. But the
table in front of us was a Sire Records table, and a guy from Sire who was
leaving after the first show gave it to us, so the bouncers left us alone.
We were joined by some student nurses who watched the show with us and then
took us back to spend the night at their dorm! My hearing didn't return to
normal till 3pm the next day (just in time for my college interview).
Needless to say, that's where I decided to go to school!

A-Bones, Tryfles, Raunch Hands, The Hope--"Ognir's Nest" in Brooklyn,
Ognir's birthday (whenever that is), 1984
IIRC, this was the A-Bones' first gig, a party on the ground floor or
basement of a brick apartment building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I hadn't
been in NYC very long at all, and this was my first taste of all of these
bands. Totally rocking night!

The hardest thing about lists like these is having to figure out which shows
to leave OFF. The Cave Stomps, circa 80's and 90's come to mind...

Ivan,
Speaking of huge-ass roaches... do you remember Roach Motel's "Roach &
Roll", and classic "Florida Reptile Land"... released, I believe, around the
time you and Paul Enema were doing Lethal Yellow? JEFF

When I first moved to DC from Fla., one of my housemates was from San
Francisco, and she ran away screaming at the sight of a large roach! I just
stepped on it and went about my business, since I'm used to much bigger,
anyways. They do leave a mess when you stomp on them, though.>>

Best buy this week: Dwight Twilley's "Sincerely" for $1! A wonderful pop
album.
What I wanna know is: are his other albums as good as this one?
(I doubt it - most power pop artists tend to release amazing debuts, but
then it's all downhill. A good example is Roy Loney & The Phantom Movers,
who released a great debut album (plus 1 mini-LP) and a crap 2nd one).

Sylvain asked:

«what's goin with the long awaited Dee Rangers LP ?»

The Dee Rangers appear to have hit a bit of a hiatus. Johnny's wife is
expecting a baby in the spring which has put the blocks on their immediate
activity (gigs etc). The band recorded a stack of new songs last year -
which btw sound great - but are unhappy with the overall sound quality. I
believe that they wish to re-record them in a slightly more hi-fi studio.

Nicke "Ranger" are you still lurking on Bomp?

anyway, i've just go to recommend I Am Shelby Lynne---former ten degrees out

mussel shoals---well done disc---third time though and people are sticking
their head into my office asking "who is that?"---check it out...---okay,
back to the bomp diaspora...

I second that recommendation. Shelby Lynne is one of the very few Nashville
acts worth listening to. The others are Who Hit John, The Shazam and The
Phanton V.
