Off the top of my head . . .

Blue Oyster Cult - ~1978 San Diego Sports Arena. Heavy metal guitar satire,
whether they knew it or not. All band members playing guitar at the end.
Best of all, the intense laser show, never to be equaled due to safety
concerns.

The Clash - ~1982. Golden Hall, San Diego. The Combat Rock tour. Rock and
Roll was saved in one night. At least, for me, it was. My Yes, ELP, and
other progressive rock albums never saw the light of day again.

The Cramps - ~1984 Adams Avenue Theatre, San Diego. Wild and crazy.
Someone big dude jumped on stage, nearly touched Ivy, and Lux hit him over
the head with a cast-iron microphone stand. The fight ensued. Lux got back
on stage, the show kicked into high gear.

The Supersuckers - 1990's San Diego. Numerous great shows at the Casbah,
and other local venues.
Oops, that's four.

Snazzy asked about famous people in 60's groups.

1. Jerry Mathers of "Leave it To Beaver" fame was in Beaver & the Trappers.

2. A briefly famous person in a band was Steven Weed. Weed was Patti
Hearst's boyfriend when she was captured by the SLA. I don't remember what
band he was in, though. (Not The Weeds, however.)

	Subject:	Earle Mankey

Earle Mankey released two 12" EPs that I know of:
In 1980, Select Records issued EARLE MANKEY, which includes both
sides of the "Mau Mau" 45 plus four other songs: "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"
(yes, yet another version), "Trashman," "Weenie Woman," and "Black & Blues."
These songs sound similar in (crazed) production style to the 45 (which I
agree is absolutely essential, and one of the great lost records of its
era).
None are as transcendent as "Mau Mau," but "Weenie Woman" is pretty
close to "Crazy!"
In 1984, a 6-song 12" called REAL WORLD came out on Happy Hermit Co.
records. I haven't listened to this much but I remember really
hating
it...the songs weren't very good at all and the sound was just
routine drum
machine/electronic stuff. Danny Benair from the Three O'Clock plays
on one
song, as do various relatives like brother Jim Mankey (who like
Earle was
indeed on the first two Sparks albums...and I think Jim was in
Concrete
	Blonde or somebody).

This record was quite a disappointment since the earlier stuff was
so good,
and since it came in the middle of a very fruitful production
period. At
the time (and still?), Earle had a recording studio in his house,
which
included equipment bought from Brian Wilson's studio when Earle
worked
there. Michael Quercio told me he got to use the same echo unit that
was
	used on "Good Vibrations."

He ran the studio much like Mitch Easter's house studio on the other
coast,
except he would charge bands by the song rather than by the day, so
they
could take as long as they wished to finish the song. He produced
the best
records by The Three O'Clock, Long Ryders, and I'm not sure who
else,
during this period. Earlier he had produced 20/20's first album
(including
	their classic "Yellow Pills").

If Greg Shaw is reading, he could possibly tell us more about Earle.

OK, I couldn't resist, here's my fave;

Ramones at some festival Sneek/Holland.
I've seen the Ramones about 20 times over the years (1st time was
in 1980), and even tho' they could be utterly disappointing at times,
other shows were nothing short of amazin', none, however as
much, as the time I saw them at this small outdoor festival in the
north of Holland circa 1986, they played last, and even tho' the
weather had been fine all day, right after Dee Dee's first 1,2,3,4, an
insane thunderstorm broke loose a couple o' miles behind the
stage. The Ramones bravely went on with their set as around them
all hell broke loose; thunder, lightning, rain. "we don't give a fuck
about the weather" Joey shouted, only to be answered by more
thunder effectively drowning out the first seconds of the next song.
At times the whole atmosphere was genuinely frightening, but the
2/3000 people still left went mad, no slam/mosh pit, more like total
celebration, and we saw the best light show ever !. With the last
note of the last song (We're A Happy Family) the sky cleared and
the rain stopped, suddenly there was total silence, in this match
between the Ramones and the weather gods us mortals who were
allowed to watch this spectacle were the only winners, soaking wet
from the rain, mud, beer and tears, Amen.

A lot people loved them live. They use to get billed with the livelier garage groups(Unclaimed, Last, etc...) and so their show came off as bland to me. Tony

Mark Twain once said "the coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San

Nothin' to write home about, but when I saw Blue Oyster Cult and Rush in
Duluth, MN in '76, I was totally blown away by Buck Dharma and his fast-gun
playing. After my garage conversion, I was lucky enough to catch the

Club SOLID this Saturday Feb.5 at 9:30pm...at Fais Do-Do... possibly the

are moved to the 3rd Friday in March and may remain in that slot.

Anyways, hope those in to garage 60's can make it out...possibly a cool
fill-in band as Odd Numbers cancelled...

a new band from South Bay/Long Beach area...a Garage/Power Trio who are
doing a r&b-rock 60's vibe, compared to an early KINKS with a bit of a
psychedelia thing going on...

...now thats what ive been told...there band name is something like
"Im Stabbing At You" or "Im Going To Stab You" ... ok, with this name and
the sound their likened to I see NO CONNECTION so if they are righton those
who see them lets start suggesting band name changes...ive got two so far
"The Stab" or "Knives Edge" ... well maybe those suck too.

In a partnership called SOLID SOUL FRIDAYS, we present...
...on the first Friday in March and continuing on first Fridays,
the debut of LOCOMOTIVE!!! It is to be a HARD SOUL club featuring
"mod 60's r&b and 60's SOUL" with a dj from Golden State Soul Society
(possibly Nancy "SOULTASTIC" herself) and recent transplant to So.Cal., Gene
Balk who is a super great dj and cool all-around cat, from the EAST COAST.
Plus, scooter Chris Griiffith and his hard-soul collection and Patrick for a
variety of mod r&b and soul classics. The club will be at RUDOLPHO's which
is pretty central for all So.Cal. people...near East Hollywood, off the 101
fwy at Silverlake going a couple miles east...or from the 5 fwy it is just
10 minutes from downtown and near the Glendale/Pasadena areas...classy,
classy venue and A sharp-HARD dress code is going to be in place...no jeans,
no boots...strictly dress-stylin' trousers and DANCING soles on those
feet...be ready to climb on board as the LOCOMOTIVE gets a-rollin !!!

cheers to all, Terry-Adrian-Patrick

peruse while listening to the big webcast. In its place, we will be
presenting a special all-new photo gallery with some of the wildest photos
of Los Dug Dug's you've seen yet...including some truly crazed shots of them
onstage with go-go dancers! (Yes, even EL MUNDO LOCO knows to bring on the
dancing babes to bring in those extra numbers!!) As for those lyrics to the
first album, those are all ready to go, and all of these special
commemorative features will appear on the Dug Dug's website approximately
three hours before the start of the webcast, at 6 PM Eastern Standard Time,
3 PM Pacific.

The WORLDWIDE DUG DUG'S RADIO SPECIAL itself begins at 9 PM, runs for two
full hours, and is simply www.raybrazen.com's biggest venture yet! Real
Audio is required, with at least 28.8kbps modem (but we all have 56k by now,
don't we?)

See you on Saturday night, everyone! (Or on Sunday afternoon if you're in
Australia.....)

Con mucho amor,
RAY BRAZEN

This question is directed to those Bomp! members who don't eat up
anything from the 60s just cuz it's from that time period....what is the best
"Girls In The Garage Volume"?

THANKS!

I am going to have to say...

The Trashmen at the last LVG. I just wasn't prepared for having so much
fun. I have seen bands that I love get back together and they just don't
have that drive they once did. But this time I was wrong, even when they
opened with a Byrd's song. (Don't get me wrong, I love the Byrd's). I just
didn't know what to think at that point. After that, they went full
throttle. Miserlou, King of the Surf, Surfin' Bird, which was great in
spite of not having Steve! It was surreal! And of course what made it
complete was the Untamed Youth before the Trashmen and the Saturn V after!
What a terrific night!

The first. You gotta hear "Take Me As I Am" by Denise
& Co. (I think that's the right name, but it's been a
while since I've heard it, but you gotta hear it at
all costs. The rest is quite fine, too.

Hard to pick just one volume, I like 'em all (even though not all of 'em are
that good). I'd say go
for volume 9 (the Asian girl stuff, pretty cool), volume 7 (the first one I
bought, so it has special
meaning), and volume 1 (lotsa awesome stuff).

I like Number one the best...bitchy girlie tunes. And the original version
of "Bend Me Shape Me" on the LP is a version full of lovely feedback.

the paramount---but that was late jan 1978 not 79---i was also at the
ramones paramount show, again at the old showbox and once at the hub at
udub---each time was a treat not a treatment...

Hi.

I know there's a VINYL reissue of The Saints "I'm Stranded" lp with "Lies"
and "Lipstick On My Collar" as bonus tracks. Can anyone tell me who put it
out and where I can get it from?

Thanks,

lynn---i don't think we know each other (unless you're a girl from
framingham that looked like Cher)---i do have the avatar in question
someplace---i had a few dinners at the lyman house with a friend who was
very much a part of that scene---one memory was dining with sippie wallace
there---loved the original tea party---the bagatelle with willie loco,
listening with walter powers, all the velvets shows, paupers, yardbirds, bb
king, procol harum, traffic, first jeff beck group shows, even the first zep
tour---there was a room in the back where you could buy teas, jewelry, books
etc---i sometimes manned the book table---remember the cambridge commons
days? The Wild Things with their Wolfman Jack pomped hair---johnny
compton---and of the geils band---they threw down some great sounds in their
early days---hallucinations---peter ivers band---saw the beacon street union
back up screaming jay hawkins once---did not care for the ultimate spinach,
bead game, far cry type bands---were you into the club 47 scene---james
cotton/buddy guy, tom rush, muddy waters, butterfield band and (my favorite)
tim buckley---some great shows in that club with 40 or 50 people---but i
digress...

It was billed as "Be a part of what's happening! Boston's first underground

from this that has never been shown and boy, would I like to see it! (or
maybe not...) I saw them a few times there myself, both with and without
