In the recent ramblings about favorite gigs and whatnot, I began to think
of my earliest recollections of "garage" music. So I thought I would ask
if anyone remembers that great show "Night Flight" on USA network in the
early 80's... I used to watch that late at night in high school, it was
hosted by Peter ... ? (who died I think in the early 90's? Eh? am I
wrong?) Well, it was a great show, a sort of (US) nation-wide garage
music showcase that was like a public access show gone great. I still
can't believe that USA network put that on the air, it was pretty "out
there." (but then again, MTV used to show Bauhaus and the Cramps back
then, but I digress...).Does anyone remember this? .., Geza X, and the
Killer Bees--mostly punk stuff, but sometimes some really offbeat crap.
Great show. Any recollections ... ?

The one with the Rubinoos opening was in '79. But I also saw him the year
before, also at the Paramount, on what I remember as 2-10-78, one week after
the Ramones show (and those were both KISW Catch a Rising Star .99 or $1.99
shows). The opening band for the '78 Elvis show was Rubicon (not to be
confused with the Rubinoos), which I remember as sort of a Journey/Santana
mixture. The crowd hated them, as anyone with any sense would have
expected. The opening act for the Ramones show was Seattle punk band The
Lewd--not sure if I ever heard of them again after that. I too was at the
Ramones Showbox show ('80? '81? And do you remember who opened?). I also
saw them in '79 at the Norway Center with a local power-pop band (Skinny
Ties, maybe, or something along those lines?) and The Avengers (?), and at
the Eagles Auditorium in '82 or '83, can't remember who played with them
there. I've got a lot of ticket stubs somewhere too, those might help...

Tony, are you sure?? This is one of my favorite recordings (as a record,
not so much the band) ever, and I sure don't know of anything they did
besides the Voxx EP except one track on "Battle of the Garages" nobody
mentioned. Could you give me any details on what else you have?

Ha!, No , I was thinking of the Rain Parade. Doahhh!!, major mind warp.
Similar sound, same bat channel, but different group altogether. Save type
of thing though, great records, boring live. (just my memories though and of
course opinion, I'm sure others that saw them loved 'em) Tony >>

The show you are talking about is 'New Wave Theater'. It was shown as part
of the Night Flight broadcast on USA. I was hosted by Peter Ivers until he
was murdered, I think by a gay lover.
I remember my brother and I saying up all night so we could watch both
broadcasts of it (pre-VCR in my house), and falling in love with the
Suburban Lawns when they performed 'Janitor' on it. Thankfuly, Rhino has
released that performance on one of the two best of NWT tapes.
