actually this is a really good point. if you snag the recent british best
of you have everything except for LIES and the alt version of do the robot.

both of those tracks were on a 12" single w/ this perfect day on harvest,
which i've seen on gemm.com for $12-$15 recently. (actually another way to
get those tracks plus some other cool stuff they did after ed kuepper left
is to snag the scarce saints cd on raven recs -- but this is outta print and
getting pricey).

the captain oi! reissue cds feature all the bonus cuts you'd want as well:

*('m) stranded* has "lipstick..." and "river deep...", while *eternally
yours* has "l.i.e.s." and "do the robot." both have big booklets with so-so
liner-notes, lyrics and repros of all the rare picture sleeves.

what i want to know is, where is the reissue of *prehistoric sounds*?

I saw Cale looking the same way, but in 1985! He didn't have a band; it was
just him solo, but it was a good show, especially with the then-amazing Meat
Puppets opening. I heard horror stories about the '96 tour, though. A friend
who went to the show in Gainesville said the drummer had a fan in front of
him to keep his long hair flying. What a cheeseball. . . . As far as that
infamous Big Kahuna Lyres gig I've read several postings about, I wasn't so
lucky to get to see them after a show like that. I saw them once, the only
time they played South Florida, and it was one of *those* nights, with
Monoman fucked up and throwing fits --but they did make it through their
whole set.

>That same week, Mo Tucker played across the street.... awesome.

Saw her that same tour. Awesome, indeed.

This will certainly get some undersandable laughs/scoffs--back in 1988
when I was a poor, hungry graduate student in English I needed a
turntable so I bought a Realistic from Radio Shack, and I'm still using
it! Always has sounded OK in a gritty r&r way to me; I replace the
cartridge annually, etc. But when I tried to upgrade a few years ago I
brought a nice turntable home (forget the brand right now) and found it
was incompatible with my '92 TEAC AG-500 receiver. At the time I was
told that it had something to do with crystal vs. ...something?

1) Can anyone tell me how I will know if my turntable will work with my
receiver (the latter which I'm happy with).

2) And where's the best place to look for a turntable: Circuit
City/Best Buy? The Internet? My brother in the East Village? One day
soon I must upgrade.... Anyone can email me offlist or on. Thanks!

I have great single by a band called the Criminals
that features Sylvain Sylvain from the New York Dolls.
It's fun power pop from the late 1970s. Does this band
have any other singles or albums? Did they ever play
live?

I agree - "Keep it up now GIRL, I'm on your prey" makes sense from either
gender perspective - well, not MUCH sense, but it could go either way. The most
outlandish thing about this record is that it came out in 1971. Surely it must
have been recorded years earlier, as is the case with the Fallen Angels' 'Bad
Woman'??? How could these young guys/girls have been so unaffected by 3-4 years
of abysmal pop history (68-71)? No one else was immune.
For more on Denise Kaufman, see the comprehensive Answer story in Cream Puff
War (#2, I think).

ah history people underrate it but sometimes , you get the most unbelievable
, stories, some are incredibly funny, like the Chinese story, about the
dowager queen, who was a horny old lady, who had a thing for a rich
nobleman. The rich nobleman, was afraid if he has an affair with the queen
mother, something drastic, would happened to him,so to be on the safe side,
he had one of his well endowed servants, go with a band playing . music, and
also stark naked parade in front of the queen mother, but that was not
enough for this man, he wanted to draw attention, to this gentleman,. so he
had a display wooden pin wheel, so she would notice, and so she did, and so
they had an affair , but the nobleman, was right, his servant did die a
painful, death,. but the nobleman lived in quiet but safe retirement. this
in the first chapter of historian named sima qian in historical record, by
the oxford free press, I kid you not, read it

Subject: Sneak Preview: New Mondo Topless crap on MP3 - check it out!

Hey, kiddies!

It's been a while since we released anything; our Dionysus CD came out in
October '98 - how time flies! Anyhoo, we've been busy recording new stuff,
and have a coupla labels interested; we'll let you know about that soon
enough.

In the meantime, I went and put one of our new "masterpieces" up on the Mondo
Topless mp3.com page. It's called "Think With Your Hands", and you can check
it out at:

www.mp3.com/mondotopless

Give it a listen and lemme (or everyone else for that matter) know what you
think, OK? Good.

While I'm at it, we do have a couple of shows coming up:

Saturday, February 19th at the Downstairs Lounge next to CBGB's, New York, NY
 - another Fury Promo Pop Art Experimental Party. Lights, DJ, go-go girls
(and boys?), us, and another band or two.

Friday, March 3rd at The Khyber - Philadelphia, PA - What? Another Pop Art
Experimental Party? Yep, he brings it to Philly once a month, and it's been
going real well here, too. We'll be performing with, um, The Third Bardo,
who are actually not too bad if the guitarist can stay sober. Otherwise,
they're about Thirty Years Behind Their Time. Sorry, couldn't help that one.

Again, check out "Think With Your Hands" on www.mp3.com/mondotopless!!!! And
all of you lovely DJ friends of mine, lemme know if you'd like an advance
copy of it.

Sam :)
