This little mystery was finally solved by an article in "Record Collector"
a few years back. The two bands are basically they same -- they formed in
1963 as "Mickey Finn and The Blue Men", then released 3 singles in 1964
before changing to "The Mickey Finn" in 1965. Mickey Waller (later of The
Heavy Metal Kids) was their guitarist.

The guy from T.Rex had nothing to do with them.

There is another Mickey Finn out there -- a country artist, I believe.

Hope this helps,

Scott

Mickey Finn on World Artists is the same UK Mickey Finn(from East London), he
also did the killer"Garden in my mind" on Direction as well as many other UK
beat tracks. They had about 7 or 8 singles as Mickey Finn and the bluemen ,&
Mickey Finn. They stayed together until around 70-71. No clue on the TRex
connection though. Jimmy Page played on some of their tracks as well. Tony

who sang "there she goes" as featured in "so i married
and ax murderer" and now recently covered
(ruined/boring) for some other film. anyway, what
a fantastic document. finding myself listening to it
more and more. of coures most of the best garage and

possible by all. i could hear myself playing like

P.S. yo evan and others interested (not wanting a
fight) but spin art has put out some fantastic
records. the first label for the lilys when thay were
in their my bloody valantine and then dinosour jr
phase. now the lilys are the best new pop copy of the
kinks without being the kinks. spin art also has the
minders, another great 60's pop sounding act. a band
having the courage to release a full lp running about
37 min. short and sweet. then there is the apples in
stereo. beach boys, beatles, zombies, pavement all in
the mix. with the. production wizardry of robert
schnieder (elephant 6) classic pop at it's finest. so
what if it isn't punk. a lot of other things are not
punk either. and finally for another salvation for
spin art, they released the most recent record by the
poster children. to quote wessley willis "say rowk".

The La's are my favorite British band of the last 20 years (I hear Headcoats
fans gasping). Their b sides are as brilliant as the original LP. It just
goes to show that magical original music can still be created with a classic
rock n' roll line-up. Check out the cool La's article in the new copy of
Mojo.

There was also an Australian Others who had a rare 45 (Bo Diddley's
'Dancing Girl') on Leedon + a monster unreleased track (Why Can't She Be
Mine) that eventually appeared on UGLY THINGS #3.
And there was an Aussie Viscounts as well, whose name appears on the
In-Sect's killer 45 'Let This Be A Lesson' - sez "The In-Sect with the
Viscounts" on the label. Of course, there was a British In-Sect, too.

Some other Aussie '60s bands to have the same name as overseas combos:
Frantics
Fugitives
Loved Ones
Nomads
Outcasts
Chosen Few (x 2)
Outer Limits
Missing Links (apart from the Sydney legends, there was also a Missing
Links in Tasmania!)

I asked this question about 2 or 3 months ago and
nobody answered me. I do know that Rhino put out an LP
of their stuff that is now out of print, though there
is a tape version that I believe is still in print.
Check out the rhino records home page, it only costs
like 8 bucks.

...um, I was actually hoping to get some response from those peeps who
produce the glorious reissues and maybe hear some cranky comments regarding
the difficulty those labels must have liscensing rare/outta print
recordings...oh, as a pal just burnt me an entire CD, 74+ minutes, of Thee
Midnighters I was kinda going with a fervored momment in referencing Thee
mighty mighty Midnighters...tho' this particular pal has himself sought to
release a comprehensive retro of them, as well as a Shocking Blue
retro...but he ran into impenatrable walls of a-holes acting as such, like
who owns what (!)...so he gave up. Label BOSSES...what gives?

Others from bay area did Revenge on Mercury. RCA Others did the I cant' stand
this love goodbye and Lonely Street 45. I think My friend the wizard is also
them. Mike would know for sure.
   Other Outcasts
Outcasts-Run Away on Prince featured Gary Puckett a N.San Diego combo.
They had another disc on Karate called "I can't get over you" also great.
 So many Outcasts groups. Tony

Nah:
The Mickey Finn single on World Artists, an L. A. guy?

No way, Frank. Or so i think:

   Evidence:

   1) "World Artists" meant just that. It was a U.S. label, mind you, but wasn't
everything on the label from "NOT U.S." (hence, the label name)??

   2) I just played the single again.....it's too.....um, BRIT sounding (kinda
Yardbirds-y, Mose Allison-y, lotta minor-key-ish, echo & reverb-y with that sort
of "in a well" sound a lot of UK 60's records had....just not the sort of sound
U.S. records HAD, dig?)

   3) it also sounds WAY too sophisticated to be 1965, as someone (Scott?) pointed
out. But hey, it could very well BE 1965. In which case, best damn record a
third-stringer like Mick Waller was ever involved with.

The research continues, i see there's more than a few answers to look over coming
up in my "unread" posts....lemme check em out.

ps: are there any mags around these days like Bam Balam, Gorilla Beat, etc? You
know: the kind that get DEEP into the UK shit. Anyone do like "THE" book on the
subject yet? I'm very much into trading these days for the more scholarly zines,
if anyone's sitting around looking at a pile of them and thinking: "Gee, my kids
and wife and house and pacemaker and Viagra bills are taking up all my time now,
guess i'll never get around to reading these. Let's let {{{{G}}}} do his own damn
homework, we'll hook him up!" OK OK, i can dream...., man, you guys would run me
outta town on a RAIL if you knew how much stuff i basically had to throw out while
i was packing to move out West. And i fucking KNEW i'd regret it. As it is, i
still have 13 boxes of the "creme de la creme" of zines sitting in storage. Doing
that "Zines" column in SSG and Bomp and TBE and NYR all those years basically got
me flush with the best of the rock zine scene from 1974-84. The Bomp List is
acting as my Info Central until i get that stash within reach. You didn't have to
answer but you did, but you did, but you did, and i thank you.

Tony....

LOL! The "garden in my mind"!!

Sounds like something Dudley Moore and Peter Cooke drummed up for that movie
"Bedazzled" (1967).

Just underscores my essential theory that the difference between gospel records
and doowop/early rock 'n' roll records and psychedelic records was simply the
substitution of the word "heaven"/"God" (one or the other), "heart" and "mind", respectively.

what DIDN'T Jimmy Page play on? (now there's a title for a compilation....),

are you thinking of the
Nooney Ricket Four
or was it the Nooney Ricket Five?
There is also another Mickey Finn that did a lot of dixie ragtime crap. No
clue what the scoop is with that. Tony
