Yeah, there's a Nooney Rickett & the Nooney Rickett Four (sic) song on
Mindrockers #12 (which at least three people on this list would own).
S'called 'Bye Bye Baby' an' it's good juvenile garage.

Howzabout... The Pink Fairies??? When John's Children were performing
about the middle of last year, I saw one show listed (which I understand
never ended up happening) that was going to pair them with a reunited Pink
Fairies... so maybe it's not totally out of the question???

Great idea, Lenny! Mick Farren has also toured Japan with The Devients
recently (from which The Fairies sprang - I don't know how Bomp-worthy they
are now, though). Blue Cheer headlined that same tour, though they might be
a little too "heavy metal" for Cavestomp. I'd personally love to see any of
these bands. Rob B.

Hi Everyone, this is Baskerville Rob.

I'm going to buy a 12 string guitar, and was hoping to get some opinions.
The new Epiphone Rivieras look like the supreme choice. I had a Dan Electro 6
string reissh and it wouldn't stay in tune. Rickenbacker is another option,
but the darn thing costs $500 more than the Epiphone. Anyone??? Anyone???

BTW - How about Dave Davies for Cavestomp? He's put on some cool shows at
the Bottom Line.

There was a re-issue of their stuff, I think back in the early 80s. Dunno
what label. Maybe Rhino or something like that. A friend has a copy, not
me. However, not everything they did was quite as crazy as the stuff that's
been re-issued on comps (like the Teenage Shutdown track for example) - a
lot of ballads and sorta doo-wop type stuff there as well as far as I
remember... -- PJ

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(personal faves myself)
and all of these suggestions are great, but should be at least CC'd or
sent directly TO CAVESTOMP, as Bomp has nothing to do with it, and Jon
doesn't spend all his time poring over this list (well, he offers a
tidbit here n there)

Email Jon directly @ Cavestomp@aol.com, so he can laugh deliriously, or
consider seriously all of the suggestions. Remember sanity and reason
when considering suggestions as well: are they currently touring,
where are all the members, what would be the cost, etc, all those FUN
factors Jon gets to deal with while we get to listen to the r&r garage
mayhem and madness that IS
Cavestomp. The easy part. Chris talked to Jon last night and this is
one dedicated mutha, so email him some serious thoughts!

Don't diss yourself, there is always something new for all to learn
every day. Class.........let's begin.

It's like, umm, the process of finding them, getting them there,
procuring their services................that sort of thing. (Like
getting The Monks AND The Chocolate Watch Band in one year!! CS'99)
That's a feat of uncommon luck and valor that'll go down in Cavestomp
history.

Another thing w/the older bands is the "keeping them happy" thing, which
I noticed backstage last year that Dave Aguilar wasn't exactly Mr. Fun,
Mr.Personality, OR Mr. Manners. The Monks on the other hand were sweet
gents.

I forgot to add, that the "logistics" label applies basically because
getting overseas bands here and accommodated can be hell. (applies to
The Strollers as well I should have said.)

I recently got a few 45s I have questions about.

The first is The Lemon Pipers. It's a real cool 45 on
the Carol (I think) label called "Quiet, Please" b/w
"Monaural 78" (actually that's the A-side, but "Quiet
Please is the side to play). What I'd like to know is
are these the same Lemon Pipers who later did "Green
Tambourine," "Rice Is Nice," "Jelly Jungle (of Orange
Marmalade")?

Also, I got two 45s by a guy named Dean Carter on the
Milky Way label. One is a truly frenzied version of
"Jailhouse Rock." The other (my fave) is "Run,
Rabbit, Run" (a rock 'n' roll stomper with a lot of
soul to it....two minutes of pure bliss, IMHO). Does
anyone know anything about this guy and if he recorded
anything else worthwhile?

Thanks in advance.

your leg and strum along with classic hits like "The Night Chicago Died."
The teardrops and phantoms tend to slide around on your leg unless you hold

cool.
Vox guitars are also legendary for intonation problems, like the Dan

a guitar that is easier to hold and has better intonation as a first ax. >>

1) as in "your Highness". :)

2) posting "with the fuckness", like a skewered play on the phrase "with the

guilty of "highness" AND "fuckness" on occasion,

I know, you just didn't mention that song so I thought
you didn't think that it was that good...I hope I
didn't offend you. Pebbles vol 6:Chicago Part 1 has
Jailhouse rock and Rebel woman on it, so I guess dean
is from Chicago.

Besides "Winter A-Go-Go", the Nooney Rickett Four were also in "Pajama
Party" (I wonder what their connection was??), and Mickey Rooney, Jr.'s
band was in "Hot Rods To Hell".>>

Candy Johnson's backing band was the Nooney Rickett Four, and the beach
movie producers loved the way she shaked... so they booked both her and her
band... thus Nooney's high-profile appearances. They were an ok R&B/dance
party kind of band. If all you dig is fuzz then you'll think they suck, but
they actually cut a few decent records "for what they are"... which is
typical early '60s white R&B... and even a few good faux Mersey tunes ("Bye
Bye Baby", a rockin' "Bye Bye Love"... hmm, a pattern here!). Nooney's
first record on MGM (from April 1960) is kind of cool in an early Conway
Twitty kind of way. His IT releases are hot overseas among Northern Soul
collector geeks. He is from Indiana... 100 percent confirmed, no dispute.
Even though he moved around he calls himself a Hoosier all the way.

Not that anyone asked but... what the hell, I'm a Bompster and a recovering
research nazi... here is a Canjo Records discography (Canjo, for Candy
Johnson):

101 CANDY JOHNSON - Ooh Poo Pah Doo/The Hook
102 CANDY JOHNSON SHOW - Hound Dog/Baby What You Want
103 MEREDITH MacRAE - Image Of A Boy/Time Stands Still
104 BARRACUDAS - Boss Barracuda/Hot Rod USA
105 CANDY JOHNSON SHOW - Gotcha Where I Want Cha/Because You're You
(A-side is a watusi number featured in "Bikini Beach" by "The Exciters
Band")
106 JODY McCRAE - Chicken Surfer/

(Also supposedly an LP called "Bikini Beach" by THE CANDY JOHNSON SHOW)

That would seem likely, as the label lists its address
as Danville, IL. If you happen to pull out that
Pebbles volume you mentioned, see if it has any liner
notes on Dean. I'd appreciate it.

Candy Johnson also had an LP under her own name (The Candy Johnson Show) on
Canjo, which features "Candy Johnson and her Exciters" (this is not the
Bikini Beach soundtrack)

I listen to this vol frequently, CD sitting at hand to listen thru the
comp................and yes, there are liners on Dean Carter, starting
off with origin of release, Milky Way '67

........."Based in Danville.............and
ending..................".this record must rank as one of the
masterpieces of the era".

That's the Pink Fairies who came from The Deviants. The Fairies were a few
years earlier. I remember reading a few years back that Dane Stephens, who
was the leader for most of The Fairies stuff guested on an album of Twink's.
(who was the drummer for both Fairies and Pink Fairies.)

So there might be a possibility of a reunion there. Too bad my favorites
Fairies stuff is from the short time that Stephens was replaced by Nick
Wymer. (Is he still around?)

Hello BOMP!ers. C 'n' S has been renewed for anudda 15 weeks in its
current time slot. My sincerest thanks go out to those of you who've been
tuning in over the radio and essentially carrying the show for nearly three
years and also to those newbies on the web who (depending on the time zone)
wake up at the crack o' dawn, stay up in the middle of the night, or waste a
perfectly good Saturday afternoon or evening to tune in. Again, THANKS!!
This was the Valentine's Day edition of the show, which gets me to
thinking: What's the use of a Valentine's show when 95% of the tuneage I play
