The same two cuts also appear on a great garage comp called "Ear Piercing
Punk." This collection has always cracked me up, because the cover art that
accompanies that '77-sounding title is a photo of Sue Catwoman or a gal who
looks an awful lot like her, complete with obligatory chain running from
safety pin in ear to edge-of-mouth piercing. Got the disc home, lo those
many years ago, and found it was an absolutely screamin' collection of 60's
garage greats! (No liner notes whatsoever on this pup, tho'...).

By the way, what's the flip of "Run, Rabbit, Run," how is it, and are either
of these two tracks comp'd anywhere? The other two (Rebel Woman and
Jailhouse Rock) are tremendous!

I've never actually written on one of these forums before, so please
excuse me if I screwed it up.

First up... There is a Thee Midniters (Revue) Cd. It looks like a
boot and it is dated from 1992. It has some good stuff, more like the
shutdown cuts, not boring ballads and such.

The address on the CD is:

DISTRIBUTED BY MARKETING WEST
PO BOX 91870
LOS ANGELES, CA 90009

the CC is number CD-1005 labled BEST OF THEE MIDNITERS (REVUE)

Also, I have a question. I saw the trailer for some movie called
Hour and Times, about the relationship between John Lennon and Brian
Epstien. Since I loathe the Beatles and do not know if I can even find
the movie, I was hoping someone could satisfy my curiosity. During the
trailer, they played a really cool rocker, that sounded like Little
Richard, and very much resembled Lucille, I assume the song is in the
movie, and I assume at least one of you have seen it, so would someone
tell me what song it is? (Starts out with, ooooohhhhhh I'm in love again,
if memory serves)...

Anyway, thank you.

Folks,

New stuff this week included a double helping of plastic pizzas from
Sundazed's vinyl-only Beat Rocket label. Sentient beings everywhere should
be celebrating their reissue of Badger State homeboys the Fendermen's "Mule
Skinner Blues" LP. Also a treat is a second helping of gee-tar
extravagantin' by Jerry Cole & The Stingers. Like the recent CD "Power
Surf!", "Guitars A Go-Go!" culls prime tracks from four more of the
prolific JC's budget-priced hot rod and go-go albums of the mid-Sixties.

Other first time spins by us tonight included Warren Zevon's "Life'll Kill
Ya" (Artemis), and Sundazed's latest Paul Revere & The Raider's reish,
"Midnight Ride."

Instro-wise, we've just started playing the domestic reissue of a sharp CD
by Belgium's Fifty Foot Combo ("Go Hunting" on the MuSick label). And it
was a similar pleasure to finally secure a copy of the untitled "Knuckel
Drager" disc from the People's Republic of Madison (Wis.). (Think vintage
MoAM but with the band clad in old rubber monster masks and audio clips of
old NHRA drag racing documentaries sprinkled throughout.)

As always, many thanks to the artists and labels responsible for producing
tonight's music, and to the loyal listeners who encourage us to air it
every week!

(For over five years now, Radio Rumpus Room has been broadcast Fridays at
9-10:30 p.m. on KFAI Fresh Air Radio, FM 90.3 Minneapolis and 106.7 St.
Paul. The show also streams live in RealAudio, and as always, our last
three shows are archived in their entirety -- also in RealAudio. YOU CAN
HEAR THIS SHOW RIGHT NOW -- just head for the Radio Rumpus Room webpage
for all the ear-poppin' goods!)

Here's what went down in the Radio Rumpus Room on Friday, February 4, 2000:

SAVVY SHOW STARTER (ALWAYS LOCALLY RECORDED!)
Fendermen -- Heartbreakin' Special (Mule Skinner Blues; BeatRocket/Sundazed
reissue)

Man, there was LOTS more to these guys than their signature tune! Long
available as only a bootleg -- and hard to find at that -- the Fendermen's
classic1960 "Mule Skinner Blues" LP has just been reissued on
hernia-inducing 180-gram vinyl by Sundazed Records. With four bonus cuts on
top of the already stellar contents of the original Soma platter, this
terrific album is something RRR fans really shouldn't be without! Original
member Jim Sundquist never gave up the guitar and still plies the American
Legion bar circuit in the Upper Midwest covering Johnnys Horton and Cash
(and making several Minneapolis appearances in the past couple years),
while fellow F-man Phil Humphries apparently fell off the music map several
decades ago.

Upsetters -- Draggin' the Main (Dance With Me: The Autumn Teen Sound; Big Beat)
Ronny and the Daytonas -- California Bound (G.T.O.: The Best of the Mala
Recordings; Sundazed)
Rivieras -- California Sun (California Sun; Request)
Jerry Cole & the Stingers -- Curfew (Guitars A Go-Go!; BeatRocket/Sundazed)
Ramones (w/Debbie Harry) -- Go Lil' Camaro Go (Halfway To Sanity, Sire)

Atomic De Luxx -- #1 Super De-Luxx Rock-n-Roll (#1 Super De-Luxx
Rock-n-Roll; no label)
Question Mark and the Mysterians -- Are You for Real? (7-inch; Norton)
Contemporaries -- Fool for Temptation (Yeah Yeah Yeah; Cheep! Cheep!)
Paul Revere & the Raiders -- Louie, Go Home (Midnight Ride With...; Sundazed)
Fleshtones -- Hitsburg USA (Hitsburg Revisited; Telstar)

Warren Zevon -- I Was in the House When the House Burned Down (Life'll Kill
Ya; Artemis)
Blue Mountain -- Sleepin' in My Shoes (Tales of a Traveler; Roadrunner)
Ramblin' Jack Elliott -- Connection (The Long Ride; Hightone)
Byrds -- My Back Pages (Untitled/Unissued; Sony/Legacy)

Sally Timms -- In Bristol Town One Bright Day (Cowboy Sally's Twilight
Laments For Lost Buckaroos; Bloodshot)
Sadies -- I Tried Not To (Pure Diamond Gold; Bloodshot)
Holy Modal Rounders -- The Cuckoo (Holy Modal Rounders 1 & 2; Fantasy)
Dolly Parton -- Silver Dagger (The Grass Is Blue; Sugar Hill)

Bambi Molesters -- The Wedge (Intensity!; Dancing Bear)
Fifty Foot Combo -- Minesweeper (Go Hunting!; MuSick)
Knuckel Drager -- Barron Von Surf Helmet (self-titled; no label)
Thee Phantom 5ive -- Tube City (Takin' Out the Trash!: A Tribute to the
Trashmen; Double Crown)

Druids -- Cool, Calm & Collected (Fuzz, Flaykes, & Shakes, Vol. 2: The Day
Breaks at Dawn; Bacchus Archives/Dionysus)
Pretty Things -- She Says Good Morning (S.F. Sorrow; Snapper)
Move -- (Here We Go Round) The Lemon Tree (CD-R)

And that was that!

Uh, I hate to point this out, but Mick Farren, the Pink Fairies, and the
Deviants all have records out on Bomp-affiliated labels. Mick is a good
friend of Bomp (Bomp the label, not the mailing list) and so is another
ex-Fairy, Twink (who performs often with Bomp's lateest signing, Small
Stone). The only problem, re Cavestomp, is that none of this stuff is
particularly garage. Mick's music is more like jazz /poetry these days. But
they're all good, certainly.

Hey! Overwhelmed to say the least, I must have deleted about 10 Bomp digests
(along with all the other punk, exotica, etc., digests), just couldn't deal
with the barrage of information comin' at me like a '68 Ford Pickup on a
one-way dusty desert road...uuugggghhh.

Lord Tim Hudson, yeah! Getting back to the mono/stereo thing, I bought a
first pressing UK Track Records mono "Are You Experienced" from the legend
(as well as the book which he signed). Listened to the record, haven't had a
chance to read the book yet, don't spoil it for me Tony. What a character
though!

Thee Midnighters...yeah, I know the whole story but I don't want to comment
right now as I'm working on the Bacchus version of The East Side Sound Vol 2
& Vol 3 (Vol 3 will consist of two bands only). I'll give the goods close to
the street date on these comps. If one or both are aborted, (which happens
you know) I'll give the goods as well!

See ya,
