Have the KNICKERBOCKERS been considered? Weren't they from New Jersey or
that neck of the woods? Surely the Sundazed people have telephone numbers
as the Bros Charles were involved in the bands rarities CD a few years back.
Hey, we could be talking a Remains or Mysterians event here unless the guys
opt for a mellow approach as per side two of the "Lies" album. Get to it Mr
Weiss!

>>Received a strange record in the mail yesterday. The cover says "The
Gents:
'We Gotta Get Outa [sic] This Place'", but on the A-side there's a band
called the Best, while the Gents can be found on the B-side. The album is
released on RPC Records from Camden, New Jersey. And that's it! Absolutely
no info on the sleeve.
So who are these guys, and what's the story behind this release?
Are these Gents the same who did "If You Don't Come Back" on T. Shutdown 4?
Doesn't sound like it.
And by the way: the sound quality is awful.<<

This is a bootleg LP done by Distortions records in the mid 1990's. The
Gents side of the LP is a bootleg of their LP which was done circa 1965. The
Best recordings were taken from an acetate; no details on the band. The
cover of the boot LP features the orginal cover shot from the Gents LP.

And the Gents on Teenage Shutdown ("If You Don't Come Back") are not the
same group.

But that's the point exactly, five years older than you. When you get old, long
term memory kicks in and short term memory goes out the window. You remember
stuff from your youth, but you can't remember what you had for breakfast today.
I know, because I am apparently the same age as Bob. When you start pushing 50
there are two things that start to go. Number one is your memory, and number two
is... uh.. I forget.

We had some made up a few years ago for JJ Rassler and Preston Wayne for a gig they had at an antique/muscle car show. They were *quite* snazzy, black and yellow, with the logo embroidered on the back and the band members nicknames over the front pocket. (I had a big, Laverne-style "L" on mine)

We found 'em through a business in the Boston area that sold athletic trophies and the like. Try places like this in your neck of the woods, or else I can see if my place is still around...

It is what ever your local NBC network affliate is. I'm cuious how the
network will handle some of the more *flamboyant* aspects of Little Richards

simple, they're a fuckin' great loud rock'n'roll trio with just a hint of

Subject: Movers and Shakers

A couple more 45 finds to share with you:

Found these two 45s by a band called The Movers on 123
Records. They are:

Birmingham/Leave Me Loose
Hello L.A. (Bye Bye Birmingham)/Hey You Hey Me

Anyone know something about these guys? The sides
with "Birmingham" in the title are both fast-paced
horn rockers. On the first one, the singer's going to
Birmingham to see his gal. On the second, he's
leaving Birmingham to go to L.A. to become a star. On
both of these, however, it's the B-sides that are the
killer tracks. I also note that Tommy Roe and Fred
Weller (later of Raiders and country music fame) are
listed on some of these songs as co-writers. (Tom and
Fred wrote "Birmingham," while Fred co-wrote "Leave Me
Loose" with producer Ric Carrey. "Hey You, Hey Me"
was written by Carrey with Tommy Roe. Was this some
kind of side project or was it a real band?

The other is a group called The Shakers on Audio
Fidelity. The songs are:

Ticket To Ride
Break It All

Their "Ticket To Ride" cover is totally sung in
Spanish, which leaves me to believe that this was a
Spanish group. But "Break It All," the winner of the
two sides, is a revved-up number with some British
Invasion-like tendencies. So, where do they come
from?
Anybody know?

Just thought I'd ask.

Oh, and Mike, if you're reading this, thanks very much
for the info on Dean Carter and The Lemon Pipers.
Also, thanks to all who responded to my last post.

Los Shakers are from Uruguay. They had several 45's and a several lp's, all
of which are really hip. Their 1st U.S. lp "Break it All",on Audio Fidelity,
is actually selections from a couple of their lp's released in S. American.
It was reissued sometime in the 80's and I still see it around. If you dig
the Beatles, Hollies, Golden Earrings 1st lp, I highly reccommend it!! You
can hear "Don't ask me love"(top 5 S.American disc, for me) on "Sons of YMA"
on Dionysus.

The "Break it All" U.S. 45 has a PSleeve that is damn rare. I only know one
other that has it. It was issued with the promo version of the 45, and
resembles the Teemates "Movin' Out" PSleeve on the same label.

Videos are now circulating of the group. They did several TV shindig-type
S.American dance shows as well as making a home-made type video of "Break it
all"(very crude). They were one of the more popular acts from S.America and
had their discs released in Brazil, Argentina,Mexico and many others I'm
sure.
                     Viva los Shakers!! Tony

Well, the Best side is called "Best of the Best" and contains 9 songs, and
the Gents side's got 7 songs on it, so I guess it's not the complete
original Gents album (unless it was a really short one).
