Mike, is it the complete Gents LP plus all the cuts from the Best acetate of
a "best of" each?<<

Not sure what you mean here - the combination 'Gents/Best' LP has most, if
not all of the Gents cuts found on the original LP (I don't have it to
compare). So I can't really answer that.
The 'Best' cuts were taken from an acetate with no info. Some of the
"originals" are titled by the warped mind of Mr. Distortions himself, as was
the "Best" monicker. Guess it's "Best" to say that than "Group Unknown". I
like that better, actually.

Shawn made an interesting point about long term memory kicking in at 50.
Never thought about it but I'm sure it's true... ever sit around &
listen to elderly relatives yap about shit from 50 years ago? Scary.
Actually, I can only remember about 25% of the gigs from those days, but
since I was a regular at The Horseman & later the Crystal, Pythian Hall,
The Charix & Springers I think it's enough.
And who the fuck would forget it if they saw The Sonics at 16? Or local
gods like The Redcoats who I caught probably 30 times, watched rehearse,
& went to school with the drummer? Not many I think.

Yes! I just found the reissue of "Break it All" last week. The title
track is a real killer and everything else on it is great, as well! Such
great melodies... As great as their compatriots Los Mockers, with a sound
much closer to the Beatles rather than to the Kinks.
There have been a couple of tracks by Los Shakers in some recent comps if
you want to check them out but cannot find their records. From what I
remember "Do not disturb" was on "Too Much Monkey Business 3" and a later
track can be found on "Pepperisms".

I got this from Apollo 2000, AstroSlut's guitarist, today.

Good lord! The sci-fi film fest has gone UP during the years!!!! The first one I went to was '88 - '89 and it was about $15 then!

It's great fun, though, esp. if you are young and dosed and can stay up 24 hours watching movies good and bad!

THE MOVERS were indeed a real band, from New Port Richey, Florida. They
were originally known as the Intruders, but changed their name due to the
Intruders soul group. The Movers can be seen backing Billy Joe Royal in the
movie "Mondo Daytona", later reissued with the title "Weekend Rebellion"
(with a totally unrelated, comes-out-of-nowhere clip of Grand Funk Railroad
doing "Paranoid"!).

And just to drive Gary crazy... let me mention that NOONEY RICKETT (him
again!) also recorded a version of "Birmingham".

The Shakers were from Montevideo, Uraguay & released four LP's - Los
Shakers, Shakers For You, La Conferencia Secreta del Toto's Bar & En el
Estudio Otra Vez(with only one original member). Apparantly they had a mini
reunion around 1985 with two original members & released the Otroshakers LP.
As mentioned in another post, Break It All(one of my fave albums of all
time) is A US comp of singles and other tracks. The La Vigencia De Los
Shakers Lp came out in 1975 on EMI Odeon in Argentina and is a 14 track
compilation of singles & album tracks(only a few repeat from Break It All)
and the titles are all listed in Spanish even though most are sung in
English.
A cool picture sleeve was issued in Argentina on Odeon for the 1967 single
"Cuando Tenga Sesenta y Cuatro"(When I'm Sixty-Four)/"Adorable Lola". The
band by this point have Sgt. Pepperesque moustaches.

>Videos are now circulating of the group. They did several TV shindig-type

Apparently there was quite a bit of film shot of them. Here's some info that
I got from someone in Argentina:

Los Fabulosos Shakers video documentary. Includes some very
rare shots from an unreleased film, and TV shows. B&W

Los Shakers - Volver rock (TV documentary). Maybe similar to the other
video, plus interviews with the Fatorusso brothers and a color shot from a
film

Mi Secretaria está loca loca loca. Movie with a performance by Los In.

El extraño del pelo largo. Clasic beat movie; starring: Litto Nebbia,
frontman of Los Gatos; performances by La Joven Guardia, Litto Nebbia,
Pintura Fresca, Trocha Angosta and Conexion No 5.

If anyone has ANY video of them to trade, email me offlist. Have quite a bit
of stuff to trade.

Blue Cheer do a version of Hello L.A.,Bye Bye Birmingham on their underrated
fourth album. Delaney Bramlett & Mac Davis are credited as writing this one,
so I don't know if it's the same song.

Oh lordy!!!! What a choice!!!! Well, I have owned Pervirella for about a year and I've owned Sore Losers since last summer. I've watched Pervirella once and Sore Losers at least a half dozen times so there you go! (Maybe it's just because Sore Losers has better looking guys. . . Jack Oblivian. . .mmmmm)

You're right that both movies are kinda similar in the way they both have "rocknroll celebs", and they both have incredible soundtracks but that's where the similarity ends! Pervirella is a like a great 60s/early 70s sci-fi sex romp (think "2069: A Sex Odyssey", if you've seen that one!), with lots of um, boobs and potty humor. Sore Losers is more like a Russ Meyer meets Herschell Gorden Lewis flick with boobs and ultra violence! Okay, so I guess I wouldn't really be able to choose between the two!

Anyone out there see "Gore Whore"? A local vid store has it and I've been meaning to rent it.

And the Gents ("I Wonder Why") on Destination Frantic are yet another band
again.
Regarding the actual content of the Best/ Gents LP, the Best do at least two
killer tracks - "You Meant Nothing To Me" and "When You Dance". These are
essential, and it's worth getting the album on the strength of those songs
alone.
The Gents' material comprises the typical inept covers found on most US garage
LPs (ala the Justice label, et al).

Need to even it out! But I can't recommend Sore Losers highly enough, I've
rented it twice from a
video store (Vulcan, if ya'll are out Austin way). Both have great music,
and gorgeuous gals. Kerine in Sore Losers is EXTREMELY Dennisesque and
amazing! I can't believe either film wasn't even NOMINATED for an oscar.
For shame! Any film where hippies get killed is one of

side a lot, though...

About Distortions Records: do you know where I can find a label discography?
