The Londonbeats were an English group that for some reason decided to try
their luck in Poland...instead of staying in the UK where there was far too
much competition. The album isn't at all bad - quite a few obvious covers
as you'd expect but the quality of musicianship is as good as any of the
more well known groups from the period. And in my opinion it's worth
getting just for the first track on side one, "Gonna Walk in the Sunshine"
which is an excellent moody beat number.

If anyone in the UK wants a copy we have it on the Shindig! magazine record
mail order list. Contact Jon at shindig@groovin.screaming.net for details
on ordering (and, indeed, for a full list of titles in stock).

Jeff:
Just a quick not to let you know i've added links to everything: Swamp Stomp AND
the rebroadcast, plus Creepy T Radio, to my "Rock 'n' roll Webcast" links in the
Links room of the AJ site. They'll be visible from March 1st-on, as that's when i
do the (monthly) updated version of that room.
Check it out in two weeks, and (general query to all Bompers) lemme know if
there's any cool shows that aren't listed that SHOULD be listed there (which is
why i'm posting this to the list, rather than writing you personally). If you'll
notice, i do them by "time", since i tend to note the day, look at the clock and
THEN go see if anything cool is on. Easier than trying to remember all these shows
and their airtimes. I assume others will appreciate how convenient that list is to use.
http://apollojams.com (click "links", then scroll down to the very end of the
links list).

I digging around for information on this band....some guy who worked for the Beverly Times sent me this.

- --------------------------

"As to your question about a local '60s band called "Thee Wytches".

They were an outfit that came out of Salem back in the mid 60's, bearing a
strong resemblance to other local acts such as Renegades and Teddy
& The Pandas. Although never finding success, they became
legendary in their own way. They were rumored to be heavily involved both
in LSD and the occult, and by the time I came on the scene ('71) some of my
friends were still talking about them.

They may have had close ties to Laurie Cabot (leader of a group of witches in Salem) and the notorious Timothy Leary, whom they had supposedly met at Harvard. Probably a lot of
hype, but then again those kinds of connections would have been the kiss of
death to a pop group looking for a label, at least in 1966-67. Why would
they make that stuff up?

If someone has actually found unreleased "Thee Wytches" recordings, I doubt
they would be worth anything to none but the most avid collector of obscure
music. If there are any connections to other acts, I'm not aware of it.
Still, I'm curious. They were never really associated with this scene, and
I believe most people thought they were from California. You may want to
try any West Coast connections.

As to the names Mars and Eastman. This is curious, because there is no
record of the "Mars" surname listed in any area phonebooks. Possibly a
pseudonym? I have a possible theory, but I'll want to hear the tape first.

Eastman on the other hand...they're all over the place. What interests me
is that the Eastman's of Eastman-Kodak are also from Salem. That happens to
be Linda McCartney's family, or so I'm told. Possible connection to the Fab
Four??? Now THAT would be something!

Send me some of that stuff when you can. Good luck.

- -Joe"

wondering?thanks nipper
Hi,
those guys were British and had an lp plus 3 EPs out, however all those were only released
in Poland back in 1965.The music is a nice mix between R&B/Zombies/Prep.
The record is limited to 500 copies and the liner notes were supplied by Mr. Pre-Kraut.
We do have it for sale at DM 25.-($13) just in case Bomp doesn't have it anymore.
Check: www.vinyl.de
We recently found a whole lot of such 60s Communist "guestworker bands" , all coming from
countries like Italy,France or UK.Not only rock music,
even a YMA SUMAC lp was released in Romania (1963) after she
toured this country...

NEXT question...

Oh lordy!!!! What a choice!!!! Well, I have owned Pervirella for about a
year and I've owned Sore Losers since last summer. I've watched Pervirella
once and Sore Losers at least a half dozen times so there you go! (Maybe
it's just because Sore Losers has better looking guys. . . Jack Oblivian. .
.mmmmm)

You're right that both movies are kinda similar in the way they both have
"rocknroll celebs", and they both have incredible soundtracks but that's
where the similarity ends! Pervirella is a like a great 60s/early 70s
sci-fi sex romp (think "2069: A Sex Odyssey", if you've seen that one!),
with lots of um, boobs and potty humor. Sore Losers is more like a Russ
Meyer meets Herschell Gorden Lewis flick with boobs and ultra violence!
Okay, so I guess I wouldn't really be able to choose between the two!

Anyone out there see "Gore Whore"? A local vid store has it and I've been
meaning to rent it.

Linda McCartney's maiden name was Eastman, but she was not related to the
Eastman of Eastman-Kodak.
