Hey Frank and airbody:

Yeah, i don't know HOW you and many others got to grow up with so many cool
stations and jocks within your listening range. I mean, WKBW had such a range
(50,000 watts) that you could drive to Florida and STILL get it on a car radio for
much of the trip. But their firepower was an exception to the rule of "local"
stations. Frank, were you a gypsy? :)

Fwiw, my ear was tuned to "the big KB", WYSL and that lowrent but amazing station
WNIA (one of those McLendon {sp.?} write-offs, they played new singles
religiously, chart-placing or not).

These stations were MY "internet". Now the Internet is my Internet. And i find it
pretty bizarro-world that in THIS day and age where we can ALL listen to
practically ANY station anywhere while online, that there isn't a "true"
underground affecting the kids coming up. And i don't mean that bullshit
"underground" that is OVERGROUND-with-a-paint-job that's been masquerading as "on
the edge" for the past 12 years. Another
"Fabian-with-a-bald-head-and-a-bedroom-full-of-computer-gadgets", another
"Frankie-Avalon-who-raps-and-cusses-instead-of-singing", another
"bar-band-with-fake-blond-"dread"-extensions-and-goatees-simulating-old-school-hip-hand-motions-in-your-face". Puh-leez!.....

I've got a pretty good list of links on the AJ site to rock'n'roll webcasts.
Organized by day and time so you can be online, decide you want to hear a show
while you're working and THEN look to see if anything's on. I think that's easier
than organizing them by Show Name and assuming people will remember the airtimes.
I never do, I'll see a playlist here and think: "gotta check that out", but the
ONLY way i remember is by using my guide on the site.

I'd like to add to it, if any of you out there aren't represented on the list
(http://apollojams.com/links.html). I spent Saturday night with "The Wayback
Machine" in St. Louis and thoroughly enjoyed the mix of new and old (there's a
link to it on my site). I almost CALLED them in St. Louis from here in Cali. just
to ask them for a shoutout and a Skeletons (local St. Louis faves of mine) song,
just for kicks.

By the way, is ANYONE doing anything webcast-wise on Monday nights? Every other
night is represented on my list but that night.

I agree: http://www.reelradio.com is a GREAT place to hear vintage AM station
airchecks. Rockin' tunes and that "AM"-style of delivery that i really miss in the
current shows. No offense to you kids workin' it on the webcasts, but the
between-song chatter is pretty "dry-like-a-college-station", exactly what i
disliked about the stereotypical FM jocks back in the day. Isn't it possible to
serve up everything from Gene Vincent to the Remains to the Fuzztones, with an
amphetamine-like, bourbon-frazzled delivery (faked or not) that is TRUE to the
excitement of the records you're playing?

The Joey Reynolds' and B. Mitchell Reed's and the Arnie Ginsberg's were definitely
not afraid they'd make fools out of themselves on the air. Acting the fool was
part of the excitement, and addicted an entire TWO generations of rock and roll
lovers. I'm sure they thought, as Bob Segarini once retorted to some heckler:
"Yeah, but i'm doing it and getting PAID for it..." (then under his breath) "what
is *your* excuse?....."

he was such a smartass, gotta love him:

ps: btw, since it's NOT on "reelradio", i have a vintage 1965 aircheck with George
"The Hound" Lorenz, pure Buffalo with local references (Lenny Silver at Best and
Gold Distributing, Wardynski's Bologna!! even) and superb blues and soul sides. If
anyone wants to trade. I'm doggedly persistent in my attempts to score some of the
"Bomp-y" cd and vinyl compilations i don't have. Including LOTS of stuff ON Bomp
itself (damn...ya think greg would put me on the damn mailing list, considering
i...jus' ribbin', Mr. Shaw!), there are titles on AIP and Total Energy I'm missing bigtime.

pps: wasn't CKLW the station with "Rosalie" as the music director? Immortalized by
Bob Seger (the GOOD Bob Seger, not the clone who was "like a rock") in the song of
the same name?

Subject: Adios Moshable Festival

The longest running Scandinavian garage and punk rock fanzine, Moshable,
has come to an end and the last issue will be out in March 2000. In order to
make it a pleasant goodbye we end it all with a big rock 'n' roll bash in
Copenhagen and a two-day festival. The pre-sale tickets are on sale now and
you better hurry since there's limited access to this monster party: 230
tickets for Friday and 400 for Saturday. The line up looks like this:

Friday 31st of March at Stengade 30:

The Nomads · The Royal Beat Conspiracy · The Burnouts · The Turpentines

Doors: 21.00

Saturday April 1st at Loppen:

The Hellacopters · The Flaming Sideburns · Union 69 · Columbian Neckties
(ex-Shake Appeal)

Doors: 22.00

+ special guests and Rock'n'Roll DJ's: Måns (The Maggots) and Brock (Deadbeat)

The tickets are 120 Danish Kroner ($17) for each night. In order to be
able to sell pre-sale tickets in 14 countries at the same time they will be
available through Globaltickets which have agents in several countries.
Below you will find phone numbers or of your local agent. Get in touch and
pay the tickets and you will receive a voucher which will be valid as a
ticket when you come to Copenhagen. You shall pick the tickets up at Tivoli
Ticketcenter, Vesterbrogade 3, 1630 Copenhagen V, Denmark (phone +45
38887014). They are open Friday between 10.00 to 19.00 and Saturday between
10.00 to 17.00.

This solution is the best for several reasons: the tickets are available
for everyone at the same time meaning it's first come first served, there's
no money transfers and you pay in your home country, Tivoli is located in
the center of Copenhagen and is easy to find. The catch is that the tickets
will be more expensive for people abroad and we don't like that, but the
alternative would be that they would only be on pre-sale in Denmark and
Sweden. Outside Denmark you must be prepared to pay $10 more per ticket.

Here's the contact addresses: Australia (61 2 9327 7599), Austria (431 533

Shot in the dark:

Does anyone out there have any information on Preston Klik and/or The Book Of Holy Lies?
Chicago, early 80's, pretty awesome, imho.
