DoLP !!!)and I 'd really like to have an ear on the Union 69 album (
unfortunatly out on CD only) as well as on the "Riots On The Rocks" scand.
comp...Oh, and there's also that new Rockets 7'', on Bad Afro..

>Heard the new Turpentines yet?

eh, is it already out ???? the new LP on White Jazz ? another must-have ?

Also try to find a band called
>Mary Slim, they are cooool!

on which label are these newcomers ?

talking about loud moods, did anybody here get the "March To Fuzz" 3xLP
Mudhoney anthology ???? The pieces seems pretty limited, just has that
bloody Fun House 8xcds, everybody's saying "act quick!", ok, ok, but ...
where's the money ????!!! aaaaaargh, wanna be rich !!!!

bård wanted recommendations on:

Lost & Found - Everybody's Here
Golden Dawn - Power Plant

Invest. These are Texan psych/garage bands on the same label as the
Elevators and each with a sound somewhat derived from "Roky and the jug" but
nonetheless boasting good songwriting. IMHO neither platter is as powerful
as the early Elevators albums but are still worth getting hold of. Lost &
Found are probably the more frantic of the two bands (the
songrwiter/guitarist was a school chum of Roger E) whereas Golden Dawn take
an more blissed-out "Easter Everywhere" route. Both come housed in lysergic
sleeves which hark back to the first Elevators album third eye design.
Definitely worth buying if you can save a bit of money on the deal.

Anymore Golden Dawn/Lost & Found fans on the list?

This one's really good if you're into heavy
psychedelia. If nothing else, "Hot Smoke and
Sassafras," a Top 20 hit in 1970, is a smoking one.
As reissues go, Get Back's re-ish of this album is the
one to get, as I once had the Collectables CD reissue
and it was mastered extremely poorly.

Haven't heard the other three, so I can't help you
there. Hope this helps a little, though.

by the way, I put the ER diagram for Searching for Shakes into ER/Win to
export the database to SQLServer7 or Oracle. I don't own an Oracle

debating making a SLServer7 version of the db avail. if anyone is
running a database server and wants to pull Searching for Shakes out of

Don't bother with CDR versions, Greg Shaw and Tim Warren are releasing
them as a box set on their new label. I think the other project they've
got coming up is Jon Spencer fronting the A-bones on some Charlie

the rights to that oft-bootlegged Elvis in London concert.

Well, I used to own that LP at the time I was « beginning » in the 60s US
psy... the reminds I have from it is that it pretty deceived me, with only 1
or 2 tracks that were worth hearing. As Brian said, this one's reserved for
the most heavy psy / blues addicts, those for who the late 60s US sound is
not synonym of shitty vocals, painful 20 minutes long drum and guitar
solos.... I also remember that it was one of the first 60s records I sold
back to second hand shops, along with some other shits like 20thCentury Zoo,
Surprise Package, Yellow Pages ('tho I regret now their excellent « Devil
Woman »...) and so on....

>Haven't heard the other three, so I can't help you
>there. Hope this helps a little, though.
>> > Golden Dawn - Power Plant

Eh Brian, how didn't you ever get an ear on the marvellous Golden Dawn album
? ? ? ? I really always thought that this one was as famous as let's say,
the 2nd Elevators album ! Go and get that one if you can, it's gold all the
way, mixing acid/druggy punk with marvelous lysegical ballads (what was the
title of that jewel on side 1, track 3 ? ? ? ?). Still one of my fave 60s US
psy Lps, that I'm still spinning years after having discovered it .

I've got poor reminds from Lost & Found.... think the only one I tried to
spin once was something called « Parable Of An Arab Land », or whatever,
with a very simple B&W cover... well, it was just too much « arty » for me,
sometimes very closed to jazz, but ,well, it was so long ago I heard it,
maybe should I try it again...

I'd highly recommend the Golden Dawn. A brilliant lp w/tracks varying from
polished garage to lowkey whispering psych, the others I think are heavy
psych and only would consider them if you are open to various modes of
psychedelia. Tony

i've always found the godz to be way-overrated. they have a few moments, but
i think those are all on *contact high*, which i think get back also reissued.

they seem to be a total music-writer kinda band, if you get my drift (i.e.

More like... put on hold.

Basically, work has become extremely hectic. Put it this way... a normal
teaching load is 5 periods a day, with three different courses (maximum)
being taught. Somehow, I've ended up with 6 periods a day, 9 different
courses!!! Sometimes I teach 4 different courses during the same period. So
I'm pretty fried by the time I get home.

And then there's the Teen Scene to work on.

My plans... (1) get the TS out; (2) this summer, work hard on the 90s
garage awards thing. I figure by then things have settled in people's minds
enough to gain a bit of perspective, at least.

Oh, but, Lee (and I say this very tongue-in-cheek),
I'm sure they're
super-limited-deluxe-color-rare-editions pressed in
quantities of 42, so they are surely worth it!

Actually, it's this type of reissuing that constantly
pisses me off! I hate this fucking phenomenon of
"devising" a record (a reissue at that) to be an
"instant" collectable. It's utter bullshit.

What if Norton said "We're going to reissue the
Sonics' 'Boom' on vinyl in a limited edition of 172
copies. The list price is $59.99. Hey, we know it's a
high price -- but these are RARE! Get 'em while
they're hot, because when they're gone, they're gone!"

Labels like Sundazed, Norton, Arf Arf, Teenage
Shutdowns, and labels of this kind should be supported
over any of those "limited edition, rare, vinyl-only"
P.T. Barnum-run labels.

(Apoligies in advance to folks receceiving this on more than one list, but I
feel it belongs on both).

Howdy, Cats and Kitties. Just to let ya'll know that today's
Austin-American's Statesman XLent
section features an article on the Fuzzclub, our own local 60s underground
happening. Some cool
shots in there (including one of dj Sue Davis), as well quotes from
Bompsters Alyssa and yers truly.
Check it out online @:

 http://www.austin360.com/statesman/editions/thursday/xlent_6.html

This Saturday the Jewws are playing, and they're a total blast live. If you
haven't picked up their
debut 10" from last year, I'd suggest getting it asap, because Remedial
Records isn't repressing it
and quantities are low. Find it on the Remedial webiste (don't have the url
handy). Really rockin'
g-punk/r'n'r, w/influences of the Gories, Chuck Berry, and Billy Childish.

Subject: kick ass record stores in Chicago?

I'm going on a business trip to Chicago next week
(fuck, can't believe I have a job that would do
something like that - but I assure you I am not a
suit) and am wondering what cool record stores exist
out there? I'll probably have a day or two to hang out
and will be somewhere near the El.

Also for all you frenchies, you might be happy to learn
that the new ninja zine is out featuring tons of garage

Hah! Nope. Are you thinking of a company with the
initials AC? I work for a very small web shop who has
a potential client in Chicago.

And, er, I'm not 16 Forever, or Sweet 16, or <YADDA
YADDA> 16.

The best finds I've ever found thrift shopping were in Rockford. Though that
was about 8 years ago.
