Yep. Saw it then and saw it in reruns. Extremely non-revelatory, given the
context. Also barely raising an eyebrow: keep an eye out for a Mannix episode (if
you wanna plow thru 100+ otherwise snoozy detective episodes for it) at a hippie
freakout with the murderer starting off this bit of snappy dialogue:

"hey man, nice lookin' atcha again!"

Joe: 'well, YOU seem to be in a good mood'

"hey..being in a good mood is my PHILOSOPHY!"

Joe: 'well, that's a good philosophy, seein' as you're in for some rough days ahead...'

"is that right? any good reason for that?"

Joe: 'eh...murder in the first degree....you'd be SUPRISED how some people get
shook up over a little thing like that....'

"would you ill-OOCE-inate at that thing for me, uh, man?"

Joe: 'yeah. simple enough. (some convoluted explanation about something to do with
this and that, with enough psychedelic references dropped in to convince Middle
America that this poor sap HAD to be the killer cuz he gets, goodness gracious, HIGH)'

'whoa...hey...man...that's a groovy idea! You sho' have sum FUNNY dreams! Dem
lights must be messin' with yo' MIND.'

(chaos and a struggle ensues, we bait our breath during some kind of variance on
"For What It's Worth" (sans vocals, some lazy Bay Area hippie shit) going on in
the background of thrashing and beer bottles breaking, you know, the usual 9:55pm climax....)

Needless to say, i want this episode.

if you're a professional musician or want to SOUND like one, use the Vox "Wah Wah" pedal:

Frank. Frank.

You're so like, gullible. Stroking your head, going: there there.

Frank Sutton hit TV paydirt as Sargeant Vince Carter on that stupid show. Fact:
CBS were the kings of marketing to the dirt-cheap-southern-trash-market. THIS is
who you advertise Quaker Oats and KFC to. Cuz they buy it. How you'll know? ANY
show that prints the title of the show with an announcer that SAYS the title. In
case you can't read. Talk about insulting. It doesn't just SAY the "Beverly
Hillbillies". Some guy SCREAMS it. Also: Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and so
on. All Quinn Martin productions did the same thing, i dunno why now that i think
of it.

Frank Sutton's legacy includes "Password", "Love American Style", "Andy Griffith"
(THAT's a no-brainer), and i think ONE album half-spoken, half-sung (badly). I
feel sorry for anyone who can ill-OOOCE-adate (see previous post) on this. Then
again, i'm in AWE. Frank Sutton??? Who of you GIVES a fuck? Amazing. What's next? "alt.binaries.entertainment.tvlosers.franksutton"?

now shut up while i get back to this Rhino "History of Brownsville Station", dammit:

The transmitter shit the bed at around 8pm last night. Nobody notified
me, so I woke up at 4am (EST) and drove in the 15 miles only to find a note
on the board saying that the station was down. I'm really sorry. Believe
me, it blows for me as well. I was really psyched to do today's broadcast.
We are in the process of getting a brand-spanking new transmitter. Hopefully
it doesn't take as long to install as the MP3 system took...
Anyway, there's a fair amount of tracks throughout these T.S. volumes
that were recorded by New England-based outfits and as I wrote yesterday,
I'll be hosting "On The Town" (Boston/New England rock) Wednesday evening
from 9-Midnight (EST) You'll hear some of it then.

can someone help me out here, what's the de facto standard Mac database
program, the one that everyone has? Is it called filemaker Pro? I was
going to write up a system to run from a coldfusion/sql7 webserver I
have on my laptop, but no shit, that's not for everyone, I feel myself
getting geekier for even typing that. Someone else mentioned they could
run a cgi behind it for either web use or maybe compiled into an
executable? But I'm not even sure there are many computer programmers
on this list, but couldn't someone use VB or Java wizards to create a
mac executable file from an ER diagram?. I got pushed into the
programming job, don't ask.

I don't know mac databases, so if someone could help me out that would
be cool. I can guarantee that I cannot create a little program you all
could run without a database though.

I think the EP's were put out in conjunction with their tour of the US. I
know Stax and I dropped a load of 'em off in SFrancisco when they played up
there at the beginning of their tour. The CD's especially the one's with the
film footage are amazing, but I think an EP of any sort is ten times cooler.
To me, it's just more nostalgic and much cooler to have autographed than a CD
case.

You gotta understand though, this is just my opinion I'm a nostalgic nerd and
dig vinyl over anything digital. I know many others(non-collectors) don't
care and CD's are their scene.
They were pretty cheap too, compared to the 15.00+ reissues of the French
Birds, Creation, and now Dutch EP's circulating.
Posters would be boss, but do you think they'd sell very well? Could you
imagine going into a chain record shop and find posters of the Pretties,
Creation, or the Birds. Tony

Dennis was correct. Frank Sutton played the role of Pyle's put-upon
commanding officer, Sergeant Vince Carter. For me, Sutton's responses
to Pyle's ceaseless stupidity are what make the show so entertaining.
Well, that and Sutton's amazingly great flat top haircut....
As far as his singing goes, I'm not aware of any records he made, but
who knows? Stranger things have certainly happened. He did sing on
the show a few times and it was always purposely bad: you know, gravelly-
voiced hamming from someone who wouldn't know subtlety it hit him in
the head with a sledgehammer. So, anyway, the reference to Frank Sutton's
Greatest Hits was a moronic joke on my part....

Hello,

I was looking over your website with great interest. I
had found some mention of the Fuzztones cover of
Bloodrocks' DOA ..... you seem to have a bit of insight
on those rare cover tracks. Was there really a
Fuzztones cover of Bloodrocks DOA ?

Myself and members of Bloodrock would sure be
interested in hearing this cover, if it truly is a cover.

There have been a few covers of Bloodrock tunes, but
we had never heard of this one.

I work with some of the original band members of
Bloodrock and some other artists in regards to
promotions and exposure for their current and past
published music.

Hope you can help with this one ......

Thanks ..... have a great day,

I saw the James Brown sequence from "Ski Party," and was amazed at his
recovery from a couple of slips and tripups during yet another boogaloo
through "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag." Never really dug the hair from that
period, though.

The music sequences from "Out Of Sight" were great despite the less than
stellar content of the rest of the movie. I've noticed that in every clip
of the Turtles I've seen where they mimed, Flo (the big one) always seems
to be on the drums. Why? The Knickerbockers were known for keen
note-for-note covers of latest hits, especially on "Where The Action Is"
where they subbed for the touring Raiders. "Jerk And Twine Time" on
Sundazed is a collection of such Knicks soundalikes.

Hey Mr. (Ms.?) Apollojams! Thanks for the compliment! Always great to hear
that folks are tuning in to our netcast (and ENJOYING it at that... yikes!).
Yes, I've got some Skeletons in my record closet, and I'll pull some out and
spin something for ya on tonight's episode. BTW, I'm pretty sure they were
actually from Springfield, MO (about four hours southwest of St. Louis).
Anyway, thanks for the plug!

Catching up on a week's worth of Bomp digests...

Sheesh! Yeah, Ron, sorry... it seems like we give it so damned many times
that we'd drive folks crazy with it. Oh well, sorry 'bout that! For future
reference, it's (314) 664-FM88. When are ya gonna be back in St. Louis,
anyway? Stanley Cup finals? World Series?

later,

To quote Ian Hunter via DB: "such a drag, too many....snags."
But no matter. I've been really stoked to check out all the webcasts you
Bompers do, now that i've set up a guide (by day and time, rather than show,
mentioned many a time in previous posts) that allows folks to see what's on WHILE
they're online. Rather than having to remember to GO online cuz a show is on, etc.
I'll look forward to catching it next weekend. Perfect thing to come home to on
a late Friday nite.

ps: if "On the Town" is always Bomp-worthy (he he, that's such a funny
phrase...but you know what i mean), verify offline with all the info i'll need to
add it to that link list i mentioned above.

For what it's worth (i love JB trivia):

The version of "I Got You (I Feel Good)", not "Papa" btw, that JB cut for "Ski
Party" was cut on 9/9/64, and is NOT the version that became a hit single. Seems
that JB cut it for Smash, and it was slated to be a single (Smash 1989), but was
withheld due to the restraining order that was slapped on him from King Records to
STOP recording things for Smash. What a rascal, that JB. Eh. Whaddya gonna do when
you're cranking out a bonafide smoker of a record every other day? He maybe should
have stuck to the game plan of recording JUST organ instrumentals for Smash.

The second version of the song was cut in Miami in late Spring, 1965 and came out
as King 6015 later that year. Both versions are on the "JB: Startime" cd box set.
They're both really cool versions. I always wondered how/why JB was lip-synching
to a version of "Out of Sight" that was definitely different than the version we
know from the radio, etc.

Re: Out of Sight: Isn't Flo (Mark Volman) playing tamborine or maraccas in the
background, like he usually does during Turtles appearances? That SHOULD be Don
Murray behind the drum kit, but i forgit, it's been a while since i've seen the
movie although i retaped it when AMC ran it recently.

- -g

ps: oh yeah, you'd think the director would have let JB have a "Take 2" on that
attempted split at the end of the lipsynch!

And uh, sho' you right, Skeletons are Springfield, not St. Louis. I even KNOW
that, who knows what i was thinking when i gaffed? All i know is y'all make some
damn fine onion rings in the great state of Missouri. :)

Well Well!

Anyone curious about the Deadly Snakes' touring plans will be interested to
know that they almost certainly will be touring the US with new sensations
Les Sexareenos in June/July. I'll keep everyone posted when I hear more.

When I suggested The Blues Magoos for Cavestomp, you replied "out of the
question"....I assumed that your answer was based on the assumption that they
were not together. Now I find out thru the grapevine that they are indeed
back together.
Whaddya think???
