Don't know about you, but that article makes me
despise Bolton that much more. It was bad enough
having to hear his horrible version of "When A Man
Loves A Woman" at my brother's wedding several years
ago (to say nothing of it winning a bunch of Grammys),
but having Bolton own the Isley Brothers
catalog......that would be un-stomach-able.

What exactly are those new Crypt comps about anyway? Are they in

While I have to agree with you about their Laurie material (with the obvious
exception of "Are You a Boy...", their first single on Joy "Hey Little
Bird"/"You've Got to Understand" is an absolute stone winner. Both sides
have been covered by other bands (The Chesterfield Kings and Untamed Youth

it yet so I don't know if they are taken from master tapes or vinyl.

I found the 4 hours very entertaining, and a pretty balanced portrait of
all involved. Greg mentioned Tim White's book as possibly the source for
much of the material in the movie, but I pulled out my copy of "Heroes
and Villains" (I forget the author and the book's downstairs, kinda lazy
at the moment) during the movie and found quote after quote lifted almost
directly from the book. A good example of this is what Brian said to his
family after his father died ("This is gonna make a man outta me..."),
though in the book he said it in a different setting. There were many
other instances of this happening, and there were some contradictions as
well. Maybe I'll check out the book later and name a few. Great book,
by the way.

Well I can't even despise Michael Boston, he's not that bad, he's ,more like
cream of wheat, he's bland and can't compare to the originals, my wife loves
him, but at best he's ok. Still I have my pet peeves, like Brittany spears
not against her , but her image and that cover, something in it makes me
want's to grind my teeth. I know as a teen idol she will fade away in less
than two more years, it's hard to wait though. unfortunately Michael Boston
is not a teen idol, so he will be with us for a while unfortunately.

Subject: i love dragnet :)

This is the City, Los Angeles California, a city of neighborhoods,
neighborhoods where a boy can grow up to be a city councilman, a
policeman, or a criminal. When they do, that's where I come in...

for my money Dragnet is probably one of the most interesting teen shows
ever. always overly harsh treatment of teens, which for my money is
preferred to the pandering that Norman Lear did (while I'm as left-wing
as anyone here, All in the Family can make Meathead into a snotty
classist jerk like it's a positive trait), there are at least 8-10 great
teen punk episodes or episodes with good teen punk scenes. There are 2
separate ones which feature Pandora's Box/Sunset Strip scenes. In what
might be the best hippie scene, a flower child's purse was stolen by a
dog. a dog! And she's stuck explaining to Friday that flowers were her
thing, man. There several teen punk episodes, including one where a
no-count guy is studying for underwater demolition training and ends up
holding the cool kids hostage with a grenade- 30 years before
Columbine. Dragnet is actually the first show I have found which
discusses suburban teen vandalism and crime. previously it was always
city kids, but Jack Webb, who was raised by a single mother on welfare
(county relief in those days) in Watts, LA, had this incredible grudge
against suburban rich kids and man did it show. yikes! nothing like
obsessive resentment to fuel the auteur.

>The funniest one is one called
>"Blue Boy" when the guy does LSD and paints his face blue.

The title of that episode, which was the first ever episode of Dragnet
after the rarely seen TV Movie "Dragnet 66," is "The Big LSD." (??)
Californios note that the show was set before LSD became illegal and a
subplot is Gannon fussing over how they can't bust the kid for
possession.

like I was taping them all and getting into the whole Dragnet style the
show would always intro with "It was a rainy wednesday, Frank and I were
working Juvenile," or "it was a Friday evening and Frank and I were
working Narcotics Division," and after watching like 10 episodes in a
row (while finishing a 100pp+ paper about Jack Webb for school) they
intro the show and just go, Frank and I were working the Juvenile
Narcotics Division, and you know there is no Juvenile Narcotics
division... but in a perfect world, we'd all be cops working the
Juvenile Narcotics division in 1967.

Georgia Street Juvenile,

Don

Subject: more hard psych.. RE: Dust?

Along the lines of hard psych, I would definately add:

Witchfinder General and Sir Lord Baltimore.

Sir Lord Baltimore - found a vinyl copy of their S/T
album in high school after seeing a mention of them in
Forced Exposure. When I put it on - WOW! Listening to
it now - their sound is pretty rad. Some of the
crunchiest guitars I've ever heard. OTT singing... and
nothing stopping them. For a dumb comparison, they
could almost be a Black Sabbath/Led Zep hybrid but
with extremely crunchy guitars and singing about Lady
of Fire and how women are the Master Heartache.

I know there was a re-release of their 2? albums
recently on CD but I haven't found those, otherwise I
would have them now.... Let's see, I think they were
from NJ... LP was put out by Mercury. Remember FE
mentioning something about a Mercury metal/hard rock
takeover of the industry at the time?....and no date,
tho' early 70s.

Ex. lyrics:
I hear sirens calling me/Ifell prey into the wind/Sail
on crimson majesty/Turn, turn wheel of fortune
spin....

Witchfinder General, I think, were Sabbath
contemperories. I only have their Death Penalty re-ish
on CD. Sometimes I can't stand the album but for a few
songs. The singer's definately got one of those Ozzy
stoner voices. Music is along the same line tho' not
as great and jazzy as Black Sabbath.

Ex. lyrics:
Reality it is a lie - the briefest dream before I
die/To comprehend the cosmic scheme/See the truth
behind my dream/Look out for me - Let's trip on
LSD/Look out for me - D.S. look out for me

What's D.S.?

All this Dragnet chatter somehow reminded me of a teen show that ran in the
early 70's, "Room 222". Not that it was a great show per se, but I wonder if
anyone ever saw the episode where a long haired student wanted to be on the
track team but the school wouldn't allow him to run unless he cut his hair?
He opted not to lose the locks. In the final scene, he's standing on the
sidelines, watching some jock take his place,. As he watches the jock kick
ass, he gets overwhelmed by school spirit and yells "RUN< YOU HAIRLESS

Don't have ANY idea how this got by censors, but I've seen the episode twice,
and he definitely says that!
