For me, I think it'd be my computer's proximity to my stereo system, which
is in another room. I guess the only way to really do this would be to get
them close together. I don't feel like running cables down the hall through
the center of my house!

These sound like the common Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star high-top, which
were actually originally basketball shoes. They'd be useless in baseball
unless they made them with cleats!

Speaking of these, have any of you seen these limited edition Gibson f-hole

There's an oxymoron: "bubblegum pretentions". The folks who made bubblegum
records knew what they were doing was disposable and in the process made
some of the least pretentious rock n' roll of the late 60's - early 70's.

Luis

P.S. I love Stories, the Carpenters, Vanity Faire, Christie and The
Archies. The US Tee Set album never grabbed me, but I love Dutch pop sounds
and i know they made a bunch of records, so I'm not going to write them off.
"Upside Down" is a great song. Maybe there should be a new list.

Does anyone know anything about this band and their record? I first heard about them in The Book of Rock Lists under the list for "
longest hair" then very recently I was checking out the webpage for Jac Holzman's book and in the discography it says it's one album Jac wishes had never appeared on his label.
Then this morning as I open up Izzy's (after spending the night in the Watchungs in a hotel because of the storm, but hey, D&B paid), there it is sitting on the counter! Awful album ,all covers but I'm curious about them now as they seem to have been a late-sixties version of a Sunset Strip house band, like the Standells at PJs.

The Honeycombs did a raving beat monster called 'I Can't Get Through To

They were for "Have I The Right" and "I Can't Stop,"
but "Can't Get Through To You" is definitely on Warner
Brothers with "That's The Way" the official plug side.

It's impossible to choose a fave with Meek because he produced all kinds of
records. That's why is my fave producer: Phil Spector & Brian Wilson are
amazing as pop producers, but Meek was able to produce any kind of style.
"Come On Back", "Crawdaddy Simone", "Thou Shalt Not Steal", "Telstar",
"Questions I Can't Answer" are a few of the "must" he produced.

Yep, at least the Have I the Right lp is on Interphon. How much more was
there, and was it all released here in the US, too? Seems I remember a 2 cd
best of coming out a while ago (import only) which none of the damn stores I
was dealing with could get me! I have the above mentioned lp and the two
tracks mentioned by others (Can't Get Through to You, a B-side from '64, and
That Lovin' Feelin', an A-side from '66). That Lovin' Feelin' should have
been remade, no joke, and no disrespect intended, as a disco tune; give it a
listen and tell me that beat doesn't totally lend itself to that. From the
lp I have, another single, Colour Slide is also a favorite of mine. I
should toss this platter on for another listen; it's been a while now!

Btw, Honey Lantree has got to be the UK's answer to Moe Tucker; whatta
pounder!!!

Raymond, I love Edith Piaf. She is my favourite female performer. Here are the French lyrics for Les Trois Cloches:

LES TROIS CLOCHES
Words and music by Jean Villard
Sung with "Les Compagnons de la Chanson"
Recorded 6/25/46

Village au fond de la vallée
Comme égaré, presqu' ignoré
Voici qu'en la nuit étoilée
Un nouveau-né nous est donné
Jean-François Nicot qu'il se nomme
Il est joufflu, tendre et rosé
A l'église, beau petit homme,
Demain tu sera baptisé...
Une cloche sonne, sonne
Sa voix d'écho en écho
Dit au monde qui s'étonne:
"C'est pour Jean-François Nicot"
C'est pour acceuillir une âme
Une fleur qui s'ouvre au jour
A peine, à peine une flamme
Encore faible qui réclame
Protection, tendresse, amour...

Village au fond de la vallée
Loin des chemins, loin des humains
Voici qu'après dix-neuf années
Coeur en émoi, le Jean-François
Prend pour femme la douce Élise
Blanche comme fleur de pommier
Devant Dieu, dans la vieille église
Ce jour il se sont mariés...
Toutes les cloches sonnent, sonnent
Leurs voix d'écho en écho
Merveilleusement couronnent

and spinning some 45s while the Abbott and Costello
marathon rolls on on AMC. I've looked at some of the
Best of 2000 lists and there is indeed a lot of killer
stuff on those lists. However, a very large portion
of my musical time this year has been spent collecting
original copies of 45s. Yes, the collecting bug not
only bit me, it infected me! I've spent beyond way
too much money on older 45s this year. But I do
indeed love the way the 45s just explode through my
speakers. So, in the tradition of the best of list,
I'd like to share some of my favorite 45 finds of

Let's not forget the Screamin' Lord Sutch stuff, for heaven's sake! And I
only have three Syndicats tracks, but like Crawdaddy Simone, the other two,
Howlin' For My Baby and What to Do are smokers. How much more of their
stuff is available?

You're absolutely right about the range of material he covered, from Lonnie
Donegan, to Frankie Vaughan's recording of Behind the Green Door, instro
bands ranging from surf to western to the whacky outerspace tunes by The
Blue Men, and raving rockers like the ones above. One of his goofiest space
songs has got to be Sky Men by Geoff Goddard--the robotic alien voice ("Be
not a-fraid... for we come... in peace") is hysterical!

Actually, that could as easily be a problem originating when the copies of
the tapes were run off. If you still have a copy of the tape, you should
see if you have the problem on BOTH the Hi Fi and the linear audio tracks.
If it's on one and not on the other, it's a manufacturing problem, not a
mastering problem, and it might be worth trying yet another copy.

By the way, someone asked about a track listing for Frat Party--I don't have
the full list (the rental store that had it sold it off before I could dub
the damn thing), but it's a fun collection. I know it features The Kingsmen
doing Louie Louie, The Isley Bros doing Shout, a KILLER clip of Roy Head
(man, he could move) doing Treat Her Right, I THINK The Olympics doing Good
Lovin', and definitely Zsa Zsa doing a goofy High Heeled Sneakers, dahlink,
and The Hondells doing Little Honda. The Groovy Gals tape is fun, too (I
especially love The Toys and Fontella Bass clips). I forget if it's Groovy
Gals or one of the Soul tapes that closes with an AMAZINGLY hot Ooh Pooh Pa
Doo by Tina Turner, marred only by them rolling the credits (for the tape,
not the TV episode) before she's finished howling it out.

I'm with you on that one, B-Face. That has to be one

Well, yeah, Brian... but confidentially, speaking as a bass player... I'm
a little flattered when anyone even BOTHERS to make a bass player joke,
hehehe. What say the rest of our bass plonkin' brethren and sistren?
