I think Fox Family is either specific time set aside from Fox's programming
to accomodate more family viewing, or it may be a special Fox affilitaed
cable/satellite network.

At the moment, the following sit in the 6-disc changer:

1. Teenage Shutdown Vol. 15 - "She's a Pest!"
2. Impala - "Teenage Tupelo" (soundtrack)
3. The Yardbirds - BBC Sessions
4. The Neatbeats - Far and Near
5. S.C.O.T.S. - Dirt Track Date
6. Various - "Strummin' Mental Part Two!"

I only change the discs every week or so, as my commute
to work is rather short (about 6 miles). Normally, there's
more surf in there. In fact, there is nearly always at least
one TS comp and one Satan's Pilgrims, Fathoms, or
Space Cossacks CD in there.

I've had a CD player in the car since 1994, I wanted a tape player but it (
a Chrysler Concorde) came with a CD player instead. That tool awhile to get
used to. When I got a new Volvo in '99, I also got a CD player in it, and a
tape deck. I play mostly CDs though. I've never had my car broken into, and
the Volvo is pretty impossible to get into, because if you try to monkey
with the locks, it has auxilery locks that overide it, designed to confuse
and deter a thief. You also can't hotwire it, either.

The Fox Family Channel is a cable channel owned by Fox but completely
different. It used to be the Family Channel and was owned by Pat Robertson,
and showed right-wing-Christian-approved kids and family programs. When Fox
bought it they immediately put Pee Wee's Playhouse reruns on, which I
wondered if it was some kind of statement...

I saw this box at Tower last weekend, but to be honest I didn't think it was
worth getting because either I didn't like some of the bands, or I had
everything else on it already. Not everything on it is New Rose stuff in
that some of it is stuff they just licensed from other labels like the cuts
from >Gun Club, Johnny Thunders, Real Kids, Dead Kennedys, True
	>West, Bo Diddley, Lyres, Sky Saxon, Replacements, Divine Horsemen,
Green On
	>Red, Cub Koda, Chesterfield Kings, Fleshtones,>, Cramps, Charlie

told me some good shit about Lux & Ivy that I won't

deserved for creating the Cramps' image. REST IN PEACE

Sorry about the double Cramps post, I'm a digest boy.

Jeff, I picked up the New Rose boxset when in Paris, it cost me about Cdn$
65.
However, I just checked and saw that CD Now carries the thing in the States,
fifty bucks.
hmv.com in Canada has it too, Cdn$ 86. They also carry the new, separate
"best of New Rose" single CD, with tracks that aren't on the boxset I think.

>I have an eighties comp called "Play New Rose For Me"

I have that comp too, it's a lot of fun. I mean, Sky covering Roky, wow!

Two Greek brothers, one of them used to be in the Senders.

Right on, Paris - Boston - Memphis - Austin !

Driving around LA I usually try to avoid anything to aggressive. It can
really make the traffic even worse. The Rhino Poptopia and the Decca
Freakbeat Scene CD's are usually pretty good. Ever since x-mas though, I've
been listening to the new 9CD Richard Pryor box set. And I must say that is
by far the best for driving about town!

the Bandinis playing @ the Ritz tonight as well. Never seen them, but
their bass player is cute! Two shows in one night, what fun! Walter
Daniels is a monster harmonica player, too and a true gent. It's always
fun to see the Sons and Hard Feelings (lotsa familiar faces will be
present). This is also the Hard Feelings last hometown show before they go
on tour in a couple of weeks. They'll be heading out to California, so all
ya'll out that way check 'em out!

including:
>Spacething

I think this is the only one no one's addressed yet from your list... I
haven't seen it myself, but that's cuz I steered clear of it after a pretty
lukewarm review from Chris Horne and her boyfriend Richard. They did say it
reflected a very typical Dave Friedman level of cheapness, and compared it
to Doris Wishman's Nude on the Moon. The Dave Stevens artwork on the
Something Weird print is a real eye-catcher, though, let me tell ya. I
asked Rich what he remembered about the flick and he said:

<<I suppose the story line & 'technical' stuff
like sound is better than Doris' film, but I can't really remember the plot.
Hmmm.... Well, I'm not really NOT recommending it. I mean, Dave Friedman
always had some good lookers in his films, but don't expect anything 'out of
this world'.>>

For what it's worth...

I bought a new car a little over a year ago that came equipped with both
a CD & cassette player. Very handy and a necessity as far as I was
concerned. I sometimes jokingly tell people that I bought a CD player
with a car built around it.

From: colorcoat@home.com
Subject: Re: what do you listen to in the car?

At this time, I have a cassette player in my compact car. I plan to
keep it that way for the life of the auto. For the last 10 years, I
have been taping music to blank cassettes so I can play them in the car,
in my walkman, and on the jambox in the bedroom. The Maxell XL II 90
minute has become my blank tape of choice for recording CDs. For
albums, I usually go for a "type I." (Sony use to make a good all around
"type I" known as the HF-S.) I guess I really have not progressed from
the cassette heydays of the '80s.

In the darkness of winter mornings, I usually listen to folk-rock like
the "Nobody to Love" Teenage Shutdown and the Embrooks' echo-y
"Separations" or mellow and detailed music like the High Llamas. On the
drive home, I usually go for more straightforward garage, poppy punk,
and rock & roll. This week, "Reggae Reggae" by the Real Kids sounded
especially powerful. I also discovered new aspects in the Lyres' "Lyres"
cd taped to cassette. Both the song and sound quality is incredible on
the Matador re-issue. I thought to myself, "The Lyres really knew what
they were doing and how to make a timeless sounding album...I can't
believe this was originally released in 1986 when most of the
(commercial) music of that time was glossed over in that post-"Beverely
Hills Cop" and pre-"Top Gun" soundtrack sick & slick sound." That
moment when Jeff starts in on vocals, after the bass intro on "No Reason
to Complain" never ceases to move and impact me. The churning "You
Won't Be Sad Anymore" also stood out today under the green lights.

When the Lyres tape ended and I was reaching for my "The Question is No"
Fastbacks tape, "Good Vibrations" was just starting on the oldies radio
station.  The first verse of: "I love the colorful clothes she wears;
and the way the sunlight plays upon her hair" reminded me that Brian
Wilson truly was a genius. His ability (and courage) to capture the
feeling of being completely inspired and directly express it through a
complex sweep of movements on a orange & yellow 45 rpm pop single was a
generous gift that he gave. Brian acts as a tour guide, taking listeners
"there" and returns them reminded of and thankful for things like
colors, sun, sounds-and those moments that are usually not translatable.
