I haven't seen or heard the commercial in question, but these are two
different "Happy When It Rains" songs. The Garbage hit (full title: "Only
Happy When It Rains") from a few years back is not a cover of the J&MC tune
from the '80s.

Does anyone have the scoop on WHAT the unreleased bonus material will be on
the February 20th Rhino Love - Forever Changes reissue CD besides the Your
Mind And We/Laughing Stock single? Is anyone else blitzo happy to hear about
this besides me?

I don't remember what the bonus tracks are but you can find out by accessing
the Rhino website.

There are a few other Motown versions

1. Tommy Good - a 1964 Gordy single but I haven't
heard it yet

2. The Isley Brothers did a version around 1966
which surfaced on a 1972 UK album - it's as good
as you'd expect.

I used to have a version by The Rustix on Cadet -
I was expecting it to be good as it was a Trod Nossel
production (Wildweeds etc) - pretty disappointing.
It's OK but just doesn't enough spark to it.

I've a feeling the Messengers did a version but I'd
have to dig out their album to check - the album's
nothing to get worked up about. Produced by R Dean
Taylor which should give you some idea.

I think Mod Fun (now there's a name I haven't thought of in a decade) did a
version of Leaving Here live.

Hi y'all,

Here's the story so far:

On January 14, in

1949, Charles Brown recorded "It's nothing" at Los Angeles' Radio
Recorders;
1959, Wes Bryan recorded "Blue baby" and "I just want your love" at Norman
Petty's Studio in Clovis;
1964, Clarence 'Frogman' Henry recorded "The glory of love", in New
Orleans;
1969, Deep Purple (Mk1) recorded a BBC Top Gear session, playing
"Emmaretta", "Hey bop a re bop" (later to be "The painter" on their third
lp), "Wring that neck", "Hey Joe" and "It's all over" which is a cover but
not of any version I have (by Charles Brown, the Newluvs, Muddy Waters,
Niki Sullivan, Andre Williams or the Ohio Players); Help?

On January 15, in

1958, Elvis Presley recorded "Crawfish", "Hard headed woman", "King
Creole", "New Orleans" and "Trouble" at Los Angeles' Radio Recorders;
1965, Bob Dylan recorded "If you gotta go, go now (or else you got to stay
all night)" at New York's CBS Studios;
1967, James Brown recorded "Let yourself go" and "Stone fox" at the Casino
Latino nightclub (empty at the time) in Cherry Hill, NJ;
1967, the Hatfields recorded "Yes I do" and "The kid from Cincy", in
Chicago. Songs to be found on BFTG cd's 1&3 respectively;
1974, Cuby & the Blizzards played their farewell gig in Hilversum, Holland,
at a TV Studio;
1975, Jerry Lee Lewis recorded "Jerry's place" and "That kind of fool", in
Memphis;
1983, Mainsqueeze played a gig at Ronnie Scott's Club in London.
Mainsqueeze was a (as far as I know) short-lived party project, including
original Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell and former John Mayall sidekick
Dick Heckstall-Smith. It gave us at least one lp: 1983 "Live", containing
11 songs from that gig.

That's all!

L8er,
Jan (listening to the Chesterfield Kings' "Where the action is!")
