Hi there,
This is a long shot, but I'm desperate to lay my hands
on an old 7" by Australian band the Lime Spiders,
called "Slavegirl." It originally came out on Oz label
Citadel (I'm almost 100% sure), and had a gorgeously
larey cover, endearingly un-PC lyrics and a
boss-bitchingly PRIMITIVE sound. I think it was
released mid-80s. Can anybody help me? I NEED THIS
RECORD!!
Here's hoping.... thanks

Yeah, certainly happy about the rhino reissue. It's about
time. I've always thought Sundazed (or someone like that)
should have properly reissued the Love albums. Love of
course really deserves better than those cheap elektra cds.
What about more unissued Love? is there really a missing
album recorded between nr1 & Dacapo?

Picked up both 'Bloody Pit of Horror' and 'Spacething' over the weekend.
Haven't got to watching Spacething yet, but Bloody Pit of Horror was top
drawer!

The Crimson Executioner's dialogue is so cheese! It's great! Highly
recommend for those interested in off-beat cinema.

hearing The Buzzcocks shill for an SUV.

Don't have a car, but I'm always in search of the perfect Walkman music. I
either listen to mix tapes made by friends or I channel surf between Oldies
98 (in Philly), the oldies station at 94.5 from South Jersey, and college
stations: WPRB (Princeton) or WKDU (Drexel). I like the unpredictablility of

The story I've heard is that Arthur started on album to be called
Gethsemane, after the first s/t album...he scrapped some of those
songs, and re-worked others for what became Da Capo (adding
more band members, etc.). Kevin Delaney says that no one from
the band that he interviewed for his book (which won't be coming
out anytime soon) mentioned it, however...so it may have been
a mostly-Arthur effort.

Hey groovers.
Re "Leaving Here" (Motown song) by Motorhead ... someone mentioned this.
Anyway here's the poop. There is more than one version by Motorhead but the
one I know is a studio cut which formed the B-side of their "Whiteline
Fever" single for Stiff in late 76. I have this 45 and it's typical of the
early Motorhead sound - more beefed-up pub-rock than HM. They also covered
"The Train Kept a-Rolling" and "I'm Your Witchdoctor" (cf. John Mayalls
Bluesbreakers) around this time.
Actually I dig this early version of the band - the post-Bomber era is too
HM for me. But then maybe that's me exposing just a little of my Essex R&B
roots. Or something.

Don't waste your time with the Rustix' two albums on Motown's Rare Earth
label. Yes, they do a lot of classic R&B cover versions, and with a name like
the Rustix you'd expect them to sound like the MC 5 or the Rationals. As it
was, they were just another weekend bar band that Motown tried to chase the
white rock market with. Thank God that Reckless Records has a customer

Gaunt Singer/Guitarist Dead At 33

Jerry Wick, singer/guitarist for Columbus, Ohio, punk
quartet Gaunt, was killed early Wednesday morning in
an apparent hit-and-run accident, according to the
Columbus Dispatch. He was 33.

Columbus police told the Dispatch that Wick was riding
a bicycle around 2:30 a.m. when he was struck by a
vehicle; he died 20 minutes later.

Gaunt, whose core members were Wick and guitarist
Jovan Karcic, were an integral part of a mid-'90s Ohio
post-punk scene that included fellow statesmen New
Bomb Turks and the Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments.

Disturbed Bassist Won't Make European Trek Due To
Injury

Disturbing news for Disturbed fans: after shattering
his ankle, bassist Fuzz won't be joining the
maladjusted rockers on their upcoming European trek
with Marilyn Manson.

Former Kilgore and current Methods of Mayhem bassist
Marty O'Brien, whom Disturbed met while touring on
last summer's Ozzfest, will fill Fuzz's slot, said the
band's publicist, who confirmed the bassist's injury.

Fuzz apparently injured himself when he fell from a
fire escape outside the group's rehearsal hall in
Chicago (the band's hometown) last month, the
publicist said.

================================================

So what makes these stories worth posting? Well, I
saw both of 'em on MyYahoo page, they struck me funny.
Disturbed Bassist, Guant Guitarist. I can think of a
couple of disturbed bass players. A few gaunt ones as
well. The same could be saild about some guitarists I
know, too.

This just goes to prove my lesson about "S"'s and
"The"'s in band names!

I'll tell you what MoparLary listens to in his car:
the shrieks of his passengers as he drag races school
buses, the cursing from other drivers who have had
their SUV cut off, and scratching of the racoon that
lives under all the newspapers and coffee cups in his

This question came up about six months ago on this list. I think this should
clear it up... The guy in the tux is indeed the Killer, the person that
looks like a woman in the painter's cap is actually Jeff Connolly. I love
this picture. When I first got the disc I thought the bouncer-lookin'

I don't know if this was already posted but Jerry Wick, the singer of
Columbus, Ohio band Gaunt was killed last Tuesday when the bike he was riding
was hit by a car. I didn't know him (only met him once and he seemed to be a
super nice guy) but I send my condolences. "Jim Motherfucker" was one of the
best "punk rock" songs of the 90's.

Subject: The Dirty Dozen - The Movie Makers - ACTION MEN!

Has anyone else here rented the DVD version of The Dirty Dozen?

I watched it yesterday and then moved on to the Special Features. One of
them is a short film about the cast, made at the time the movie was being
filmed. It focused on how these Action Men (aka "The Movie Makers") were
hanging out in Swinging London, etc. and how that was a place these ACTION
MEN were right at home. Working hard making movies 6 days a week, then
hanging out on Carnaby Street and The Kings Road on the 7th. Some pretty
cool background music, too.

Me, I got a little portable mp3 player that I can use in the car thanks to a
cassette converter (which I got so I could use my disk-person in the car)
and I LOVE it. It's smaller than a deck of cards, so when I leave my car, I
just slip my tunes in my pocket. It holds about 20 songs. The only drag is
the brevity of my commute!! Now playing:

Honeycombs - it Aint Necessarily So
Safety Pin Stuck in My heart - Patrick Fitzgerald
Gates of the West - Clash
Hand me Downs - the Minders
Tainted Love - Gloria Jones
My Dear Persephone - Mooney Suzuki
thirteen - Jeff Tweedy (big star cover)
Little latin Lupe Lu - the Kingsmen (oh yeah, soooo much better than the
Righteous brothers version)
Il geghegè - Rita Pavone (yeah, I'm gonna hafta come down on the side of
garage for that one - thanks for turning me onto that one!)
The Man Who Sold The World - Lulu (oof.)
Ain't It a Shame- ? & the Mysterians
Sorrow - Merseys
When My Baby's Beside Me - Big Star
whatever hippie bitch - brian jonestown massacre
This Is Where I Belong- Frank Black (kinks cover!)
New French Girlfriend - Auteurs

et. al.

Nils went to high school in Bethesda, MD and is probably a little
younger than Kim Kane (Slickee Boys) and from roughly the same
neighborhood. That is, I seem to remember (hearing years later) he
graduated from Walter Johnson HS around 1971. Kim, of course, went to
one of the best-named schools ever: Soul American High. ;)

here's a funny thing though, I could almost swear from about 15 years
ago I recognized a bill with both Tom Lofgren and the brother of the
lead singer from the Hangmen playing on the same bill at the
Psychedelly. Whatever the Hangmen guy's brother's name was currently
escapes me, but I think his band was called "Local Hero" unless that was
Tom Lofgren's band- it's late and I've had a busy weekend. my dealings
with the Hangmen were pretty lame. No interviews and they just wanted
to sell me singles- which I already had dupes of- for $40 each.
whatever guys. not that any of my interviews, pre-1987, were any good...

Subject: next big thing

I was reading an ancient post which discussed garage getting an article
in billboard. my take on the next big thing for the kids?
folk/bluegrass/proto-jazz. I kid you not. I have heard 3 separate
teens talk about how "real" and "vital" the music in the movie O Brother
Where Art Thou was. Then slam, the first episode of Ken Burns Jazz
series comes out and my entire office is abuzz with talk of this
edison-cylinder-type stuff. I smell a techno-backlash a brewing.

also, several people have asked me about 70s hard rock lately,
particularly Ram Jam. and that's gotta come from somewhere, any time 2
different people ask me about Ram Jam, you know SOMETHING's up.

Does anyone know...

a) What Volumes 4 + 5 of Fuzz, Flaykes and Shakes are going to be like
and when they're coming out? they're on MUZE already
b) what the heck is up with the Australian tv show "Golden Years of
Television?" I got a copy of the 60s rock clips from one episode, but
the host's humor doesn't make much sense to me and I can't find diddley
about the show online. In particular, there is a female go go dancer
from the 60s on as a guest and I can't quite make out her name-- Diana
Drysdale?
c) any websites where I can dig up more info on Normie and the other
australian pop stars?
d) Is "Gonks Go Beat" available on video?
e) does Crypt still have a website and if so what is the URL and does
anyone know if they still do the Teenage Shutdowns for $50 ppd for 5 vols?
f) does anyone have arf arf's buzz buzz buzzzz series? how are they?
g) does anyone have psychedelic crown jewels vol 3?

thanks,

Don

Hi y'all,

Odd to come into the office this morning, open the mail and finding NO
Bomp-digests... Hibernation?
Anyway, here's today in the past:

on January 16, in

1958, Elvis Presley recorded "As long as I have you", "Dixieland rock",
"Don't ask me why" and "Lover doll" at Los Angeles' Rdio Recorders;
1963, Barbara Lewis recorded "Hello stranger", in Chicago;
1964, Otis Redding recorded "Security" at Memphis' Stax Studios;
1964, Stevie Wonder recorded "Castles in the sand" at Detroit's Motown
Studios;
1980, the Jam recorded "Dreams of children" and "Going underground" at
London's Townhouse Studios.

Nottalot, I guess...

by Jeroen, THANX mate!!)
