<<Does anyone know if there's any truth to the rumor
that the Clefs heard the song performed live by the
Talula Babies (aka Baskerville Hounds) of Cleveland
and recorded it, taking the writing credit as their
own? This was a possibility stated in the liner notes
for one of the Ohio volumes of "Highs In The
Mid-Sixties," but the same one that had a New York
band (the Denims) pegged as an Akron band...>>

You're thinking of the Statesiders cover on Tema...The Baskerville Hounds
never released or recorded "Stop Get A Ticket".
Jeff is right, as always, Talula Babies was the incorrect name of the Tulu
Babies.
A bootlegger in Pittsburgh (the boot capital of the states) decided to
capitalize on the popularity of "Hurtin' Kind" by the Tulu Babies. No one
could get their hands on original copies a year after the single came out
(April, 1965), so the people behind the bootlegging scene decided to press
up copies, altering the group name to "Talula Babies". You can still find
copies of these boots on the Mar label, either on red or green labels.
Sound quality is kinda poor and hissy, unlike the Tema label originals.
Although the biggest bootleg scam happened the same year, 1966, when the
Shondells 1963 release on Snap, "Hanky Panky" began getting heavy requests
on the radio and at record hops. The bootleggers decided to press up
thousands of boots on the Snap label. Terry Lee decided to get in on the
action and press up copies on his Red Fox label too (likely without any
permission). Boots of the Snap release flooded the eastern US before Morris
Levy and his strong-arm thugs moved in and grabbed the disc for release on
Roulette.
To this day, just about every copy of the Snap label "Hanky Panky" that
comes up is the bootleg issue. And the price is often way out of sight.
The boots are still very common.
Originals on snap are pretty rare, those are the ones pressed up in '63.
They look different from the boots, via the typeface and the dead wax matrix
codes. Tommy James always says something like a few thousand were pressed
up. Maybe so, but there must have been at least 25,000 boots pressed.

Would that be TOBACCO A-GO-GO? That's where I first heard "Abba" by the

It occured to me last night:

Honorable mention to The Creation and "Biff Bang Pow".
I would guess that the song has to be inspired by the
Batman tv show.

eBay doesn't have a blanket ban on bootlegs or
promos. They'll kill an auction for a specific
item if somebody (artist, record company) complains.

Ebay's irregularities can be really annoying. A friend of mine issued a rare
punk 45 in the 80s, and when he tries to sell legit copies of it on cd (with
lots of added stuff like live shows and all), they make him stop because
it's on cdr.

I put spaces in manually when i tape from an analog source(LP or cassette).
It does do this automatically if you hit the "automatic" setting on the
machine, but it doesn't always work, and you will get several songs that run
into each other.
