There were, its' just that reissue labels step on bands like the Shames just
to get to the Sonics (and this is not a slam against the Sonics, but more
like a plea for some damn variety). As far as the much-maligned pop-garage
thing goes (Chicago was a hotbed), I'd throw in the Robbs, Merry-Go-Round,
the Hardtimes (of "Fortune Teller"/WHERE THE ACTION IS fame), Epic-era Don &
the Goodtimes, about 50% of the Five Americans stuff, the Monkees (yes, the
Monkees), the Outsiders ("Time Won't Let Me," etc.), the Riddles, the Palace
Guard, the Ides Of March, and the New Colony Six. Rhino's NUGGETS series from
the eighties was pretty wretched, but I kinda like the one volume of
garage-pop that I have. I'd be the first to admit that a little of this kind
of thing goes a long way---even if you're in love L-U-V like a bitch, you
cannot frolic in the sunshine all the damn time. But anybody who slams Teddy

you know, continuing w/ the chicago thing, one of my favorite bands from
chicago in the 60s was saturday's children...actually, i think a couple of
the guys were from hammond, indiana - geoff bryan & jerry mcgeorge. anyway,
great band, cool harmonies, energetic kinda "hard days night" sound to them.
suits & ties, the whole beatle thing. cool! there was a great feature on them
in (i think) a "here 'tis" from a few years back. i think they only had a
couple of dunwich singles out, right? 5 or 6 45s, i think just about
everything they did is on those 2 dunwich CDs from sundazed. or on the very
cool-looking double-45 set also put out by sundazed. (are those singles still
in print, all those great 7-inches they were putting out around 96, 97??)
    anyway, saturday's children were great!!

In Japan Golden Cups beat album existed. But in later era they changed the sound to heavy rock .So I
don't recommend you.
They released many original albums along with pop 45s.

Midnight hour appeared on Thier 2nd album.
For garage fan, I recommend their 1st and 2nd album , but unfortunately both of CD is out of print
now.

Just happende to give this Pop Nuggets volume a spin last night, mainly to
hear the irresistable "Let's Live For Today" by the Grass Roots. I also
have a tape of one of Flipped Out's "Subterranean Jungle" radio shows
featuring a fuzzed-out pounder by the Grass Roots involving building with
bricks or something. But still other stuff by this "band" is just too
syrupy for me to stomach...like "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes" (a
title just made for silly jokes).

I think we discussed the many incarnations of the Grass Roots a few years
ago, but I haven't checked the archives.

This was actually the Edison Lighthouse a studio concoction for Tony
Burrows. I'll cop right away to loving this song, along with another
tune on which Burrows sang lead, namely "My Baby Loves Lovin'" by White
Plains.

>My second concern might sound novice to the "expertian" (and helpful)
collectors, but I have heard rumors that leaving the original shrink
wrap on record covers has the potential to warp the vinyl. Please let
me know if this is just a myth or a real reason to strip off the vintage
shrink wrap (with the defunct department/record store price stickers).

I read that warning while in my teens and dutifully pulled off all of the
shrink wrap for years.

The later it dawned on me that as long as you have a shelf-full, or a
crate-full of records, there isn't much room for the cover to move and this
warp the record. So I started leaving them on -- both new purchases, and
old ones with old wrap (which tellingly had not yet shrunk the covers, and
always had pristine, usually ring-wear free covers inside). None of these
albums have had any problems.

If you left a single album laying out for years, yeah, maybe it would warp
the cover and MAYBE the record inside. But as long as you have a heavy row
of other albums keeping it straight, no problem.

Johnny Burnette, Husker Du, Superchunk. I could go on and on, but won't =

I got a tricky question from a friend. I was wondering if anyone on this =

the obvious Jason Bonham and Zak Starkey, and also Doug Sahm's son who =

According to Jeff Jarema of Here 'Tis, when the Seeds played Universal

I think Hank Williams III was a punk-rock drummer for a while as well.

<Don't ask me how or why, but I idly surfed myself to
a page at
RollingStone.com that featured their idea of "next big
thing" bands... I
clicked on the first name on the list, At the Drive
In, and was pretty
appalled by these production notes among the info:

<<Producer Ross Robinson forced the group to regress
to childhood memories
before recording Relationship of Command. When ATDI
went to record "Invalid
Litter Department," about the unsolved murders of
women in Juarez, at the
Mexican border, Robinson had them imagine that the
kick drum was the
heartbeat of all the world's missing mothers. "For
me," says Rodriguez, "the
emotional links he made with all the songs worked. And
there are plenty of
things, like breath therapy, that I learned but had
never thought to apply
to music in the studio.">>

Eccchhhh. Couldn't they just bite the heads off
bats??? Besides, everyone
knows the kick drum is the heartbeat of SATAN...
