<<Well, you make reference to european bands and, no offense meant, but =
I think it is slightly improper, contexts being so different over here. =
There is nothing to be compared in Europe to the black and whites =
relations (or general absence of relations) in the US. To put it in a =
nutshell, people flirting with extreme right in Europe are generally =
more xenophobic than
racist, while it tends to be the other way round in the US. Also, people =
termed extreme right in Europe have a political agenda which is pretty =
close to the ones that, say, Georges Wallace or Newt Grinch had or have.
Real extremist things like white supremacism or aryan shit (not to =
mention militiaes, which are not possible here where arms are actually =
banned) are very specific to America, as they are dealing with subjects =
which are still touchy in Europe, where actual memories from the nazi =
times are still vivid (except in the UK, something which can explain for =
the childish provocations like Siouxsie's swastikas or New Order's name, =
bands which are not having an ideology anyway). This said, people in =
Europe can at the same time be xenophobes and have leftist or communist =
options, all the more so in the UK which owns the toughest working class =
in Europe, or the thoughest classes relationship, should I say. Hence =
the surprising lyrics in some of the Smiths songs: in a Jean Genet =
(read: homosexual) way, Morrissey is fascinated by the brit working =
class and allows himself, from time to time, to revel into some of its =
most dubious beliefs. Pretty immature, if you ask me. P. >>

My compliments
You described (part of) the European attitude about the =
racism/xenophobia problem in a clear and objective way. It doesn't =
happen so frequently in my country because of the opposite ideological =
prejudices.

Some of my favorite post-high school pre-maturity memories are of seeing the
Voodoo Dolls, they were one of my favorite bands (I still have my t-shirt!)
Thank God the Nines are around! I know this sparked a little controversy on
the list before, but I still play that Detroit Cobras CD all the time, so
that's gotta be in my top 5. Mondo Topless' "Real Gone Girl" has made it on
at least three homemade compilations, and another new addition to the list
would be the Dilemmas' new single! VERY COOL!!!

Hi y'all,

Neil Motteram warned us about the Kournikova-virus the other day...
Good news: the guy, Dutch, has turned himself in, feeling deep remorse
after finding out how quickly his baby spread, mainly causing problems in
the USA and Australia.
After consulting his parents, the 20-year old decided to turn himself in.
He now faces up to four years! Good for him!!

Recently I compiled all the radio commercials from the 1960's done by rock
artists that I have collected over the years onto one disc. I have close to
eighty (and that's not counting any from the classic 'Things Go Better With
Coke' CD) . But since most of them I pretty much came across by accident, I
wonder what kind of things are out there that I don't know of. It seems that
Ban Deodorant got several rock acts to do commercials for them. So I wonder,
and ask you, the Bompsters....Does anyone know of any other 1960's artists
who did Ban spots besides Iron Butterfly, H.P. Lovecraft and Harry Nilsson?

And have you all seen the 1965 Ban TV commercial with the fictional garage
group, the Repulsives? A classic.

Anybody got leads on relatively inexpensive bonus pieces left over from the

making reference to the singer's ideas. Though they were not appearing in
the songs back then, they were obvious in his interviews, in the bantering

admit, that I'm not big on looking for meaning (or even listening to a lot
of the lyrics) in punk rock songs. "A Matter of Pride" is not on the first
LP, and if I remember correctly, is one of their first songs with rascist
undertones...stick to the first LP and two singles, and I don't think
you'll have any complaints. My faves are "Where's It Gonna End",
"Government Action" and "I Don't Like You"...Great punk songs!!! I'll be
the first to admit how much later Skrewdriver material sucks (both
musically and thematically), but I can't fault anything they put out in '77.
