THE KINKS - THE SONGS WE SANG FOR AUNTIE - THE BBC SESSIONS 1964-1977

One of the most eagerly-anticipated Castle Music releases of 2001,

the Kinks' The Songs We Sang For Auntie is a

fascinating 'alternative' anthology of one of British rock'n'roll's

most venerable institutions. This collection, picked personally by

lead Kink himself, Ray Davies, takes a panoramic sweep from their

early days as a ferocious rock combo, through to the late 70's.

Included are exclusive versions of 'This Strange Effect' (a Ray

Davies-authored hit for Dave Berry), an otherwise unavailable Dave

Davies song, 'Good Luck Charm', and much more besides. The recent BBC

Radio 2 'Ray Davies Diaries' series illuminated much of the band's

hidden history to the world at large. Ultimately, it was all about

the music, and this double CD tells the band's story in glorious

technicolour detail.
