ok people, I didn't want to do this, and didn't want to do this and finally
shrugged and figured what the heck.

I met this video guy locally who has a pretty good collection of 60/70s
videos, but staunchly requires that I buy the tapes from him. Before I tell
him where to go, I thought that I would bounce stuff off the bomp list and
see if anyone wanted to go in with me on some tapes. Cost would be $10 per
tape + like $4 postage or like less postage per tape if you want to go in on
a lot.

I tape the tape for you and mail you the tapes.

If you're in, then that's cool, if you're not then that's cool too. I don't
WANT to do this, but paying $30 per tape doesn't work for me.

So, email me for a list.

titles include: Partridge Family/ My Three Sons reunion 77, Academy Awards
1981, 84, 86, American Bandstand a) w/ Love+ Beefheart phone call, b) w/
Mark Lindsay+ Mysterians, American Music Awards 74, 78, Anatomy of Pop w/
Temptations, battle of the network stars - 78, The Beat (r+b show), Dating
Game w/ Brady kids(2), Dusty Springfield Show, Get It Together show w/ Mama
Cass 70, Grammy Awards 71, 72, 73, 74, 78, Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle
Show, Hy Lit show (66-71 comp), The Jerry Lee Lewis Show 1971, Lucy in
London 66 (w/ DC5), 2 Murray the K specials 63+67, Upbeat (2 shows from

hehehe... It's true, rob, you'll get the catalogue FAST (at least I did),
so ya might as well fill out the form and be done with it. They've got TONS

For everyone out there in Bompland who didn't know, Lynn used to go out with
JJ back in the 70s. She's got lots of really cool stories about stuff that
they used to do back then, and even more cool photos. Lynn didn't you two
meet at the Rat, where you met your current fiance, Bill?

muttered "I hate this fuckin' song" under his breath just as they started
House of the Rising Sun. Isn't there a "New" Animals playiing around?
Don't

JJ and I also caught the Animals reunion tour in the late 70s/early 80s.
(my

Subject: Kryptonics

Re the recent chatter about Australian band the Kryptonics, I sent founding
member Ian Underwood the post and here's his reply.

Craig

She'd be barking up the wrong tree to suspect that the Kryptonics and
the Goat were musically related, despite half of the second line-up of
the Kryptos playing on that album. The Kryptonics were a rockin' little,
big-guitar, power pop band in the Hoodoo Gurus mold.

When Stu Spasm was brought to Perth in 1987 to play some some shows, he
hooked up with former band member Brett Ford and his pal Peter Hartley,
who were both in the Kryptonics at the time. Brett had been in a number
of Stu's bands over the years, notably his punk band, 'Section 8' and
'Death in Vegas' in london. In fact most of the songs on the first side
of that Lub Goat album were old Death in Vegas songs.

The three guys immediately hit it off musically, and they recorded some
songs in the same studio where the Kryptonics recorded their second
single a few weeks before. The thing that has always amused me, was the
fact that the engineer for both recordings was a timid little
Singaporean guy called Alphonso, who was more at home doing jingles and
soft rock ballads then rowdy, warped rock and roll...but he managed
admirably. Both recordings have stood the test of time.

About 6 months later, after the Kryptonics disintergrated during a
particularly fucked up and disastrous national tour, Peter and Brett
moved to Sydney and immediately joined Lubricated Goat full time,
recording another album along the way, before being either kicked out or
leaving.

The Kryptonincs continued with another couple of line-ups and recorded
another few records, before disappearing in the post Nirvana washup of
the early 90s.

Not "all of those early garage comps" suffer from poor sound quality,
particularly the stuff I've just put on eBay. In fact they sound just
damn fine to me. Maybe you're thinking of 'Boulders' - an exception
rather than the rule. Nor is it true that "most" of the tracks are now on
"newer comps".

Just because present-day compilers tell you their hastily repackaged
comps are better than the last 20 years worth doesn't make it so.

Last time I saw the film on one of the Turner channels, the audio kept
clipping really badly during all of the quieter scenes. Also the picture
seemed to be out of frame (ie; you could see the microphones off screen, and
in some cases you could see the lights just over the top of the sets.) Still
one of my favorite groovy 60s comedies.
Others I'd include in this list:
The Party
Bedazzled
The Knack and How to Get It
