The first two greatest hits CD's and -Street Legal- have been remastered and
reissued (but not with the Legacy banner). Good thing, as they sound great
and I think SL is pretty underrated. As for the rest, a reissued version
of -Freewheelin- was announced a few years ago along with two others I can't
remember, but nothing yet. As for why, the consistant rumor I hear among
Dylan fans is that it's up to His Royal Zimmy to green-light reissues, and
he is ambivalent about it (possibly true; -Biograph- was Columbia's idea and
Dylan put them off for five years before caving in and okaying it).

The copy of -Blonde- I picked up a couple of years ago has the full "Visions
of Johanna." If you want a ridiculously comprehensive list on the
differences between Bob's albums between formats, rare tracks, and all that
there's a great FAQ floating around Dylan websites that gives a breakdown.
The list is -really- packed with obsessive detail, though.

wasn't there a legacy (or legacy-style) reish of "blonde on blonde" a few
years back, in one of those book-size (like the billie holiday decca box or
the nederbeat) slip covers? it was white, i remember that, and had the
complete "sad-eyed lady of the lowlands," which, i believe, is cut off by
about a minute and a half on the regular CD. anybody have this? i would have
scored this myself at the time, but i was broke and it cost something like 50
bucks.

Sure, the Hives are great. And it's great to go see bands like the Hives
and see teenagers in the audience getting into these sounds for the first
time. But, the people that will profit out of it won't be people like Bomp,
it'll be the labels and stores that are already selling contemporary "pop"
music. The indie labels and indie stores and little garage rock clubs (like
mine) will be shoved aside by big business sooner than you can say "garage
rock" (at least till NME decides what the next fad will be). Cynical? Yes.
But I'm enjoying hearing the Hives etc on TV anyway... PJ

Now *there's* a band I haven't heard anyone mention for years. They were a
local Huntington, LI band, so I saw them a fair amount. Never great, but
their lead singer, Paul, had a certain charisma that made it work. One of
the guys had gone to high school with either Joanna herself or another porn
actress.

Personally, I preferred one of their predecessor bands, The Phase I
Psychotics.

Good news for us vinyl fanatics. Just been told by Poptones that they'll be
issuing the Hives' "Your New Favourite Band" CD as a 12" slab o' wax in the
next month or so. Nice to see the label is making the effort to cater to
the real garage fans, ie. providing CDs for the pop-kids and the real thing

The Hydromatics are looking for gigs in the UK, but outside of London, on
Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Monday 29th April.

Can anyone out there give us contacts for clubs/promoters in Scotland, the
north of England, Midlands or wherever ought to be a good place for them to
play.

By the way, if anyone's seen the Hydromatics I'd be interested in what you
thought of them.

Yep, that was "Buffalo 66". As for celluloid love, it's not recent, but the
instrumental tune off the first Love album was featured in "Medium Cool".

'Egyptian Shumba' is easily the greatest pop song ever
written about ancient Egypt. It sounds like a record
that might have been made if Phil Spector had swapped
brains with Sun Ra for a session.

Bo Diddley's "Surfin" Lp & "Beach Party" are different...
I had "surfin" & it stunk IMO. "Beach Party" on the other hand (I kept) is
LIVE & WILD! Really Raw versions of his hits plus a few lesser known cuts.
Other Bo Chess titles hard to come by but highly recommended:

"Originator" LP (White cover w/ trademark guiar & stool)* excellent lesser
known cuts!
"500% More Man" LP (White border w/ plants & guitar I think..)Another odd
one w/ great lesser known tracks...

One of the two has "Let the Kids Dance" which was covered by Exploding White
Mice...(EWM version kicks!)

also "World's greatest Lover'..."Jo-Ann"...Great unknown Bo cuts!

Now to find the Lp with "Pretty Girl" original as covered by The
Yardbirds...!

Rumor has it that there were privately pressed Bo Lps done up in the 60s for
sale at Colleges/frat parties...Anyone ever see one?

More later-

Ty

i'm w/ omari on this one. man, i thought it was one of the coolest movies
i've seen in awhile. then again, 'how high' was the last one i actually
went to see. but i liked that one too.

Tenenbaums had no discernable plot, was in love with its own cleverness and
didn't feature a single worthwhile gag--it was a movie for people who think
they're smarter than they really are, just like its two predecessors, Bottle
Rockets and Rushmore, both crapola!

Charley re-released it together with the Lost & Found album around ten
years ago. Both are well worth investing into if you like the Elevators
and want a slightly different take on their "sound". Sadly, these discs
are no longer that common at the record fairs and secondhand shops in London.

Well, if you liked that flick you should get your "Hand X" on a copy of Head in a Milk Bottle #2, in which we interviewed and tell the story of that filmmaker (J. Michael McCarthy) and Big Broad Guerrilla Monster films.

ok, i haven't seen this "tenenbaums" thing, or "bottle rockets," either -
but FINALLY i see that somebody else doesn't like "rushmore." holy shit, what
is the big deal about that movie? great soundtrack, for sure, but...why does
everybody in the world think this movie is so freakin great? i didn't think
it was one of the worst movies i have ever seen or anything, just kind of a
long bore with 5 or 6 tepid laughs - sort of a blah movie, neither really
good or really bad. i have had so many people tell me how great this movie
is, blah blah blah, and i just don't get it...maybe it's me, but this time, i
actually kind of doubt it.

hmmmmmmm,
