Okay, here's that second notice I promised. Since this was covered in
detail the other day, we'll make this one brief:

New York BOMPers, Stompers and otherwise, please come TONIGHT AT 10PM to
CBGB's to see MICHAEL LYNCH AND THE LYNCHMEN and their 1960's-inspired
music. If you dig the Barbarians, Other Half, Shadows Of Knight, Cyrkle,
Byrds, Kinks, Raiders, Brian Wilson, and all points in between, it's a
safe bet you'll take a liking to Michael's music. Three bucks will get
you a half hour's worth of ear candy.

Michael Lynch - Guitar and lead vocals
Ken Anderson (of The Rooks) - Drums and vocals
Doug Mayer (of The Contrarians) - Bass and vocals
PLUS SPECIAL GUESTS

Thanks. Hope to see/meet some of you tonight.

faves include i had a dream, ivory tower, capturing the flag (awesome
tune!), 10-5-60 (although i have no idea what it means), harriet tubman's
gonna carry me home, join my gang...

Hey Gang,

Donnie Brooks here. Say, I heard someone was asking about the editing
foe-paw in BUBBLEGUM MUSIC IS THE NAKED TRUTH about the year my good pal Gary
Zekley (pronounced ZEKE-lee) passed on to the big Pop cloud in the sky.
Well, my information says right here that ol Gar' was born on January 4th,
1943, and checked out on June 19, 1996. So I don't know how things got this
way, but there it is kids. And listen, don't forget to pick up my new record
"Penny the Poo (She Knows Exactly What To Do)" which I also perform in United
Screen Arts new picture A SWINGIN' SUMMMER with Gary Lewis & the Playboys,
the Rip Chords, the Righteous Brothers and (introducing) Raquel Welch.
Sounds like a killer-thriller!

your pal,

Donnie Brooks

Hmm, perhaps they might appeal to a certain Jewish American now living in

absolutely!! i haven't scored this one myself yet, but have listened to
the recent reissue several times over at a friend's - there's a lot of jangle
on there, most certainly, but also some early psychy stuff, too. great
harmonies, lots of energy, very cool CD, kind of a cross between the first 2
byrds' LPs, "a hard day's night" and some of the weirder moments on revolver,
from what i recall. cool stuff.

Definitely go see 'em! Where are they playing? They opened up for Cheetah

I've seen in ages. Totally trashy and over the top. Almost set the club on

Subject: Recent funny films

Hi there movie maniacs

I've never seen 'Rushmore' or 'Caddyshack' for that
matter, but two of the funniest films I can remember
in recent years are:
"The Closet" - this is a French film starring Daniel
Auteuil and Gerard Depardieu which made me cry with
laughter practically the whole way through. It takes
the piss out of homophobia AND political correctness
with a panache and razor-sharp sense of humour I
haven't seen in an English-speaking movie for ages. No
rock'n'roll soundtrack that I can recall, but hey,
that didn't detract from it in the slightest....
Also, "Series 7" - has anyone seen this satire of
reality TV shows? Jesus, talk about BLACK humour. I
don't generally watch reality TV (preferring
unreality, myself) but this film duplicates the dodgy
production values, the ridiculously serious
contestants, the shamelessness and general lack of any
redeeming features that are so central to this TV
genre... except the contestants all kill each other as
an added bonus! I must admit, I was one of the few
people in the cinema who was laughing (or should that
be cackling?) throughout this movie, but I thought it
was a rip-snorter! It had a crap 'heavy rawk'
soundtrack from memory, though... still, it was kind
of appropriate for the subject matter.

Hi,
Someone, I think it was Jahna of the Demands, posted her band's upcoming tour dates and one listed them as playing the Court Tavern soon with the Detroit Cobras as co-headliners. I asked Dennis of the Blisters about this today (he books the shows there) and he knew nothing about it. Can whoever it was that posted this tell me more? Dennis is interested in booking the Cobras.

Hi all :)

Thanks to Comcast re-building their network - they've messed up my LAN
and web/mail servers... so I was off BOMP list for a week or so. I hope
I didn't miss too much :)

The Anderson Council are on hiatus as we're all writing material for the
new record, and Jim Charles, our lead guitarist - came down w/
Appendicitis and has had his appendix removed this past weekend.
We're hoping to have a bunch of new material together for our gig in
Chicago in April during the Chicago International Pop Overthrow festival.

LASTLY:
Also - Harry Joyce passed away. Harry Joyce was a legend in tube
amplification. He designed amps for Sound City before leaving to make
HIWATT amps that were used by Townshend, Gilmour, etc...

Absolutely. I also recommend this one very highly.
Be prepared to be a little depressed, though, if you
think about it too much. I mean, has society really

I'm listening to a CD by The Pirates that I just received from Trippin' Elephant Records out of Japan. It was recorded live in Japan in Nov. of 2000 and is a pretty hot CD. Has anyone else heard this? It's got the original lineup of Mick Green, Johnny Spence and Frank Farley.

*** Yep, I got it Jeff. I guess I should review it too so I'll give a short one here. BUY IT!
BUY ANYTHNG WITH THE ORIGINAL LINE-UP!
Actually it is quite expensive as those Japanese releases usually are.

Frank is not very well and hasn't done the last couple of shows with the guys. He suffers from a respiratory problem. They kick pretty well tho considering they hadn't been playing back together very long.
Trippin' Elephant also did a Wilko Johnson Band (in fact I think it was recorded the same night) release as well that is the same as the Pirates but with a red cover! I guess you have to see it but Kopper will know what I mean.
Also very good.
My only gripe w the CDs would be that they don't sound intimate enuff. Pretty hard to top the Nashville side of Out Of Their Skulls or Wilko Live In London.
Still Pirates and Wilko nuts will want them both. No doubt in my mind.
Mine came with stickers. What about yours Jeff?
Anyone heard the KWACKER EP Mick did w TMGE? Pretty rockin' and MGE almost keep up w Mick.

Diary of a Rock N' Roll star is indeed a fascinating though painfully
realistic document of the Mott tour. I just got Ian to sign my copy as well a
few months ago in Louisville, really dug his show.

Re: Rushmore / Royal Tenenbaums, I thought these two movies were *extremely*
good and very to the point theme-wise. Max Fisher was into all kinds of cool
fringe stuff (calligraphy/bee keeping). When Bill Murray asked him "what's
the secret Max?," he replied "find something you love and do it for the rest
of your life." Sounds like record collecting or er, rock 'n' roll.
