It's the Strokes, doing a not-so-secret secret show.

taking their cue from a line in "wayne's world" the strokes will be
performing at the mercury lounge under the moniker the shitty beatles,
despite that fact that a simple google search brings up at least 2 other
bands that use the name all the time. the show was sold out even before some
DJ on KROC blew the news yesterday. later...ben

good Power Pop rhythm section but the songs are seriously good too. Too
bad that he could not maintain the momentum and had to go and fall out with
those talented youngsters. Such potential.
O, and mine's an 'alf cider, Col'!>

*** Y'know what Steve? I agree. That is without a doubt an incredible record. As much as I love the Chsiwick and Raw stuff they don't come close to the sonic splendour of that record. What a racket!
I know you don't get on too well w Jesse but I'm glad you pointed out how great he can and should be.
If only his admirers could convince him to get out and play.
A half is it? ;o)

See you down the pub Steve.

That's the band I should've joined. I'm a perfect fit. I'm left handed, play
bass, have a viola shaped bass, and play Beatles songs really shitty! Damn,
I missed my calling in life again! Oh well, there's always a Shitty Beatles
tribute band......do they call it beat music or shit music?

<< If I'm not mistaken, the whole movie "O Brother Where
Art Thou?" was meant to be a Depression-era rewrite of
"The Odyssey." It was just by accident that it turned
out to be a little more than a two-hour video for what
is still the number one country album in America... I
wonder how the followup album, "Down From The
Mountain" (live recordings from some of the "O
Brother" musicians) is doing? From what I can tell, it
has few songs from the movie, and is the movie really
turning as many people on to old-time music as they
 say it is? >>

Well, the other night I did see an ad on television for "Great Bluegrass
Hits" (or some such). When bluegrass artists other than Alison Krauss start
getting airplay, and Dock Boggs sells in the same quantities as Robert
Johnson's box, then the O BROTHER trend will be in full effect.

For those who came in late: someone on this list said that one of his former
students now played in a band called Clover, which they shouldn't use because
Huey Lewis had a band with that name (and besides, it sounds too 1970's arena
rock, IMO). Somebody else said:

<< I don't believe Clover UK has been used. >>

Naah...I'm assuming they're from the US, and that's almost as bad as
Americans who spell "rumor" or "color" with a "u" towards the end ("rumour,"
"colour").

Maybe they should call themselves Crimson? :-p

Your fascination with MTV and fashion seems to belie your

or is it all just a shameless ploy to pick up chicks?

what, nothing wrong with a shameless ploy to pick up chicks, is there??
dressing like a clown might cross my personal line but to each his own...on
second thought, anybody know where i can pick up one of them red rubber
noses, an orange afro wigdo and some big floppy shoes on the cheap??

np: metrojets vol. 1
and just who doesn't need another power pop comp with a shitty cover??
pretty great stuff and it's cool to hear lincoln's boys again (only been
about 20 years).
