Hey, I care about how I look! I very carefully picked out a pair of Levi's
and a black "Zodiac Killers" t-shirt to put on today, and I ain't even a
lady (or a socialist, for that matter)! Think I'll give the Chuck Taylors a
day off, though, since it snowed last night, and wear my new Doc Marten's
black chelsea boots (a Xmas present this year) to the City Museum today...
we're going to see Art Chantry's art show and I wanna look my best.

BTW, saw "The Royal Tenenbaums" last night and absolutely loved it. It's
definitely worth seeing again, IMHO. Great soundtrack, too, with Nick Drake,
Ramones, Nico, Velvet Underground, Clash, etc. Oh, and as we were leaving,
there was some sorta formal dance going on in the hotel where the theatre
was, and the band on stage? Bob Kuban's Brass, and as we were passing by
they were just breaking into "The Cheater." Weird...

Hmmm. Amazingly enough, it apparently DIDN'T lead to a lot of accidental
record sales!

I got it at the suggestion of old bandmate Bruce Hamel. (Bruce needs to be a
salesperson in a music store. I went to spend $10 on a used Who Sell Out.
Walked out spending $199.68).

I wish Marie Huana was on it as well. That would've been neat. Haven't heard
it all, but did notice some Outsiders studd sounds much different. I've Been
Loving You Too Long has a fade, Lying All The Time sounds different as well.
Could it be that the EMI best of Outsiders is of shit quality?

Its snowing and I'm going to see the Parkinsons at New Haven's Tune

THE GIZMOS
1978-1981: NEVER MIND THE GIZMOS HERE'S THE GIZMOS
(Gulcher 406)

This 2002 CD, 1978-1981: NEVER MIND THE GIZMOS HERE'S THE
GIZMOS, assembles the 14 tracks originally released on Gulcher vinyl
by the post-Ken Highland/Eddie Flowers Gizmos. After the original
group scattered in early 1977, vocalist Ted Niemiec and Gulcher's Bob
Richert put together a sextet of new Gizmos. In 1978, they toured the
east coast and recorded the EP NEVER MIND THE SEX PISTOLS
HERE'S THE GIZMOS. Standout tracks are early versions of "Cry Real
Tears" (Vulgar Boatmen) and "The American Drean" (Walking Ruins),
and a cover of the Sex Pistols B-side "Did You No Wrong." Two years
later--downsized to a quartet of Dale Lawrence, Billy Nightshade, Tim
Carroll, and Shadow Myers--the Gizmos released the 1980 split HOOSIER
HYSTERIA album with Dow Jones & The Industrials. Highlights include
the manic "Dead Astronauts," ironic "Rock & Roll Don't Come From New
York," and Al Green's "Take Me To The River." A year later, unaware of
their impending Indiana fame, the band relocated to Hoboken, New Jersey.
With new drummer Robbie Wise, they recorded several demos with the
MX-80 Sound production team of Mark Bingham and Mark Hood. Only
"The Midwest Can Be Allright" was released then, on the 1981 Gulcher
compilation LP RED SNERTS; it took another 20 years for the 1981 NYC
DEMOS CD-EP to appear. A bonus living room take of "Please Panic"
concludes this collection; although they unmercifully slagged their mentors,
Bloomington's high school Panics covered several Gizmos songs, including
from this CD "Tie Me Up," "Pay," and "Abdul In-A Babylon" ("Reggae Song").

The first one easily translates as "I don't want to get up" but for

Subject: Janis Joplin video/Combination Of The Two

A question...I understand there's a pretty recent Janis Joplin documentary
for sale on tape and DVD called 'Nine Hundred Nights.' The thing about it
that has me interested is that I have read that this set includes
'Combination Of The Two' from Monterey Pop. Does anyone have this new
documentary who can tell me whether the entire performance of this song is
included, or is it just a fragment of it?

You might recall back in 1997 on the 30th anniversary of Monterey, there was
a VH-1 special of outtakes, and they had this song, but they didn't show the
whole song...they cut out the second verse, and anyway they had modern
interviews with Monterey performers cut into the tune. I've always loved that
tune, as out of tune as the guitars may be, and a piece of that version is,
of course, the opening of the 'Monterey Pop' movie, but that too is chopped
down, in different places, and I'd love to hear the entire track. (The
Monterey Pop box set that Rhino put out in the early 1990's had 'Combination
Of The Two,' but the version included there was from her Saturday Monterey
set. The version heard over the opening credits was from her Sunday set,
which must also be the one on this DVD, since only her Sunday set was filmed.)

What was I talking about originally? Oh yeah, so if anyone has seen this new
video and can tell me if 'Combination Of The Two' is complete in it, I'd
appreciate it.

Thanks.
