The Parkinsons were on friday with Spitzz and The Profits. I saw MOB friday
and saturday, friday at Avalon was a bummer, way too crowded and the first
set was kinda slow and muddy. Saturday night definately left a much better
taste in my mouth, plus I got to "experience" Beefy DC after.

It sounds like you're talking about "Double Barrell"
by Dave and Ansil Collins, which went to #22 in the
summer of 1971.

I imagine quite a few fans were too.

I should have an interview w/ some cool pics from Scott's private collection of the guys last Euro tour and one of Scott playing w/ Deniz Tek in Italy too once he and I finish up the interview for MOHAIR SWEETS (http://www.mohairsweets.mb.ca).
Looks to be early Feb. I'll post that to the list when it happens.

What's up w the new Shindig PJ? Mojo and you have both been quiet. It must be at the printer by now eh?

I don't know how much has been mentioned about the SIGHTS here of late (I don't get to the digest as often as I'd like, sorry) but the new 7inch on Fall Of Rome is fabulous. Nice blend of 60s, Mod, boogie and pure Detroit.

Lookin' forward to their new LP.

As someone who grew up w/not only my father a preacher, but his father as
well, I was exposed to countless weird christian experiences. While I do
consider myself a Christian (I try to be as Christ-like as I can), it is
obvious that most "christians" don't really want anything to do with the
picture of Christ that is actually given in the gospels. Anyway, some one
mentioned christian ventriloquism, while I have seen this before, what
always, disturbed me were the christian magicians. Only they never used the
word magic (or trick for that matter), they did ILLUSIONS. I guess just the
uttering of the word magic might conjure up satan or something. Oh, and if a
dove flies out of this guy's hat, prepare yourself for the moral symbolism.
- - On the music tip, you can be sure that for every time I brought home a
Guns n Roses or Aerosmith tape, I got ten copies of Stryper or the
equivalent. Ouch those bands always suck! A word to "christians" everywhere,
you are the only ones that listen to "christian" music. You're not saving
anybody's soul!!!!! - Jared

I thought for years, also, that it was "We can dance just as good as we
want." But it isn't. It's "walk." You can hear it plain as day with
headphones. Also, "want" doesn't really make sense in that context. And at
that show I was at with Mark Lindsay in Charlotte in December, Mr. Bell was
one of the performers (although he is now "Drell-Challenged") and he holered
"walk" clear as a bell while pantomiming a "walk."

So, anyway, it's "walk."

He was great, by the way.

As far as the Strokes go, while they may not be my favorite band, it is
still great to see a rock and roll band that writes their own songs and
plays their own instruments on TV. Also, while some of the songs on the
record do sound similar, I think that can be said for most of the modern
"garage" records I've heard recently.
Now Jack Black, like almost everyone else on this list, I enjoyed the
performance in High Fidelity. Unfortunately, it seems that someone told Mr.
Black that he is way funnier than he actually is. I hate comedy records any
way, and this piece of shit meatloaf parody is no exception. If he could
stick to the scripts and lay off the coke, then he might make another good
movie.

I think this was a band produced by Buzz Maeschi, who had a great
recording studio in Zurich recently called spooky sounds. He also
played in a couple of punk/wave groups in the early eighties along
with his brother. Their was another band at this time called, "Hungry
for what" that included some members of Chin Chin. Buzz Maeschi is
a great RnR lover and gear collector. He has a cool record store in
Zurich called 16 tons. E-mail him for more info at 16tons@bluewin.ch
I hope this helps.

i see yer point but i think most likely he'd just be tucked away into an
asylum of some sort. reminds me of the time (easter of 98 or so) i saw this
guy dressed as jc and toting a cross at the corner of 72nd and dodge (the
busiest intersection in nebraska)...on my way back (from where ever it was i
was going), he was bloodied and cuffed. and yeah, of course i stopped but
it turns out he was just a fuckin' nut ...yelling bible verses, "forgiving"
the officers and then threatening their "immortal souls". hell, i'd a
kicked him too but the cops told me to get back in my car and move along.
there's been at least a couple movies that have resurrected christ only to
have him locked up or murdered by the church cuz he was gonna be bad for
biz...yeah, probably an oversimplification but i don't do "art flicks". ;)

out of your knuckles with a wooden ruler. no wait - that's catholicman.
now listen, this guy lee from my college days that i was thinking about,
when i remembered the carman song, this guy is like a fucking thread in
himself. he was like offensive christianity incarnate (and you though it was
jerry falwell). it was like a dorm pass-time to mock lee and engage him in
theological discussions. he was dumber than a sack of wet shit. i mind-fucked
his dumb christian ass into buying me a bottle of tequila when i was like 19
or something. what a dumbass. anyway, my favorite lee remark was the time he
told me that ghandi was burning in hell because he (ghandi) hadn't accepted
christ.
    "WHAT?" i said.
    "you heard me."
"let me get this straight," i said. "GHANDI is burning in hell because,
as a hindu, he was a cult member, and on top of everything, he hadn't
'accepted christ,' right?"
    "right."
"but YOU are going to heaven, right?"
    "that's right," he said.
    "why?"
"i have accepted christ. i'm forgiven." he had this really greezy smarmy
smile.
i don't remember what i said after that. what i wish i'd said was "why
don't you accept my fucking KNEE in your GROIN, asshole?" and then bagged the
shit out of him, but i was so astonished at the level of methodical
stupidity, self-delusion, and lobotomized logic at play, i think i just stood
there shaking my head in utter disbelief. i kind of had the same reaction
when i heard that carman song yesterday.
lee also didn't know who john lennon was. this was like in 1991, and he'd
never even HEARD of the guy. lee, the good christian, only listened to
christian rock. lee, the good christian, also had an alarming habit of
violating his then-girlfriend/now-wife in ways that involved non-traditional
penetration, and then walking down the hall BRAGGING about it. would jesus
have approved of this? he'd been forgiven & could do whatever he wanted to, i
guess. i swear to god (pardon the expression) i am not making any of this up.
yuck!

hey everybody thanks for the info & recs on the julie driscoll/brian
auger "open" CD a while back, it just arrived today & is pretty great stuff.
one question, though: anybody know who is playing the guitar on "in & out"
and "isola natale" -? some very cool mclaughlan (sp?)-ish guitar on those two
tracks, but the liners credit only julie, brian & the rhythm section of dave
ambrose (bass) and clive thacker (drums) for the whole LP.

Did you know that something like 50-60% of Christians
are illiterate? Yep, it's true.

An old boss of mine gave it all up (the secular world)
to become a Jesuit. I kept in touch with him during
the first 2 years of his training. Told me a lot of
interesting tid bits like that. Seems that since
Christians/Catholics have all these missionaries in
Africa & South America and other Third World nations,
they indoctrinate mass numbers of illiterate converts.

The true nature of Jesus is a pet project of mine.
Love reading the research on it. Most of the scholars
on the subject agree that:

Jesus was a radical rabbi, NOT the messiah.

Married Mary Madalene and had two children.

Had at least two brothers (Thomas & James).

Did not come from the humble beginnings of a virgin
mother and carpenter, but rather from a family of high
standing in the community and some wealth (he IS
supposed to be from the House of David, remember?).

What most of devout Christians believe is perverted by
Paul (the apostle who never actually met Jesus) and
Constantinople (the ROMAN emporerer) who was actually
a follower of the Sol Invictus (a pagan sun god).

Anyone who want to continue this discussion, email me
off list and I'll send you a list of books on the
subject.

What song of the 60s era do you think has the most ridiculous fake
british accent?

My personal favorite for ridiculousness is the Ladybugs "Fraternity USA"
followed by the Potato Bug's "You need love" (I might have that title off).

The emperor was Constantine I, Constantinople was
the city named for him (formerly Byzantium, currently
Istanbul, Turkey.)

What the FUCK????????????

Has anyone else wandered innocently into www.quadrophenia.com ?

Y'know, maybe I've been wrong all these decades. Perhaps violence **IS** a
viable response to violence. If I could get my hands on whomever is
responsible for this trash I would certainly squeeze the last drop of bile
out of his sick little neck.

HOWEVER--I've done the next best thing. I have e-mailed the owner of The Who
Web Ring and suggested strongly that he go remove the link to this trash from
his ring. It's SOMETHING, anyway. I urge all y'all who might be offended
(meaning, I guess, those of you who are still BREATHING) to do the same. He
has a clickable link right in the "Who Web Ring" logo, or you can e-mail him
directly at

nobody@thevoid.co.uk

Be careful not to piss on THIS guy, he's not the one responsible for the
site. He's the web-ring owner, and he probably has no idea what kind of
trash he's innocently allowed into his ring.

This is not a freedom-of-speech issue. I would never suggest he can't say
what he wants on his little web-site. But innocent dewy-eyed Who fans like
me shouldn't be roped in by deceit.

Mike F.
oooh, angry.

By Norman Greenbaum? I don't think that qualifies.

He said that while he's never been a Christian, he wanted to write a
religious rock song, and he thought Jesus would be more commercial than one

Yeah, and besides, it's NOT EVEN A GARAGE TUNE, at that. Hey, "Boogie Oogie
Oogie" had a fuzztone guitar solo, but that doesn't mean it should be on
NUGGETS III.

Like a lot of kooky christian dogma, they didn't make
it up, but lifted it from someplace else.

Think about it: how did most of the greek/romans gods
and heros come from? Their fathers were gods and
their mothers were maidens.
