Say HI to Slayer!
I saw Slayer once in an old concrete skating rink here in St. Louis. They
had a wall of camouflage Marshals and a stadium duty PA that made the bass
drum part of your body. I loved it, but I was sure that old rink was going
to disintegrate at any minute.

They didn't fool me. I had forgotten about Tony Iommi playing with JT until
I saw "Rock and Roll Circus"... I recognized him right away!... even in that
crowd. That's a great show! My faves from that show is the Who's "A Quick
One(while he's out)" and The Dirty Macs'(John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith
Richards and Mitch Mitchell) performance of "Yer Blues". Too bad they didn't
record or tour... Now that was a "supergroup"!

As long as we're on the subject of fake British
accents, it seems like there was a period in the 80's
when a bad brit accent was mandatory for "new wave"
radio djs. Kind of like the southern drawl that's so
common among airline pilots.

Hmmm. I posted the first set of lyrics, and I'm quite sure they're as I
wrote 'em up, however hip these alternate lines are... I could be wrong,
but if zone65 feels pretty certain of his version, I'd suggest you look for
a third source to double check both of us (that is, if you're determined to
be a stickler about it). If you do find 'em written up elsewhere, too
(maybe with a publishing credit, eh?), I'd love to know what you decide is
the authoritative version.

this to spin on The Wayback Machine, either. It's definitely primitive, but
I agree, not savage at all. And thanks for using a word that I had to pull
out Webster's for! Good choice...>

The title is a reference to a 1964 American release "This is the... The
Savage Young Beatles." (So that's where the Chesterfield Kings got it from)
Most of the tracks weren't The Beatles (two with Tony Sheridan, one without
him, 5 of Sheridan without The Beatles, all recorded before Ringo joined)
and none of the tracks were exactly savage.

Speaking of King Louie, let me make a tiny plug for a show:

Saturday Feb 9
Ernie K-Doe's Mother In Law Lounge
1500 N. Claiborne Avenue
New Orleans LA

The night starts with The Stacks playing two sets of danceable R&B and a few
of Ernie's gems. (The Stacks is members of the now-defunct Sleepy Heads with
some local musicians sitting in.)

After that comes The Final Solutions (Memphis spazz punkers) and The Bad
Times record release party. The Bad Times is King Louie, Eric Oblivian, and
Jay Reatard. The record is totally rocking and so lo-fi and in the red it
sounds like a cassette tape if the tape were made of yarn, or twine, or
something.

The tariff? A mere $6. There's a flyer on display at
http://www.thesleepyheads.com and more info on the Bad Times at
http://www.goner-records.com.

Off to the Mardi Gras,

Guess this is a good opportunity for me to plug Head in a Milk Bottle Radio,
too. Has anyone checked it out yet? I'm about to change the playlist. It's a
good mix of bands and/or releases that were covered in the first two issues
of the 'zine, either in interviews, features, or reviews. It's over seven
hours long so you can easily have it playing at your desk all day. I need to
play around with mixing in more announcement breaks and other oddball
between-songs samples of movie trailers and stuff, but it's not bad for the
first try. AND you can listen to it with a 56k dialup, too.

I didn't quite know what to think at first, but I played it about five times
in a row, and now I think it's great! My mind was mostly blown by "Satellite
Jockey", though not so much by "1999".
I haven't heard "All Of Us" yet, but I'll be sure to pick it up!

Greetings,

I was at my favorite record store after band rehersal. They played
this real cool CD in their from a band called LiLiPut. Apparently
they were an old post punk from England. I would stay that they
are like The Slits with more of an attitude. I would go as far as
the combine the sounds of early Siouxise & the Banshees,
the Slits, and recent band like Sleater Kinney and Red Ants.
I love the British accents, minimalist guitar, and the PMS
mentality of the pissed girl punks. God bless 1979-1981
punk rock.

They seemed, alternately, like they a) were right in the pocket, b) hadn't
rehearsed AT ALL, not even at a sound check, c) weren't sure what songs they
were playing or what key they were in, d) didn't always realize each other
 were onstage.......

Oh well. It was kinda magical anyway. >>

Were they called over to the couch to talk, or did they just perform?
