Perfect score for four....Blue Cheer does in fact also fit the bill here.
Singer/bassist Dick Peterson had a fuzzy face at times. You can't see it so
well in the pictures on the LPs, because of the graphic effects and also
because it was a very light blond, almost white.

Never mind what is usually meant, and by whom, when people use these terms. How about redefining them? ("It's our music. Let's take it over!")

Acid Rock ('n'Roll) is rooted in a period in time -- Mystic Tide "Frustration," Craig, "I Must Be Mad," Pebbles volume 3, 30 Seconds Before the Calico Wall, Beyond the Calico Wall, etc.
Psychedelic ('n'Roll) is more a collection of ideas than a specific set of sounds -- from early morning psychedelic stuff like the Who "Sell Out," and so on, to later art-experimental stuff like Wire, Gang of Four, "Anthrax," Can, Vibrasonic, the Mermen...

How many LP's will it hold? The price looks good. I'll have to measure
the
space to see if I can squeeze a couple of 'em in.

I am using a cedar-lined walk-in closet for record storage, the shelves
will
have to be assembled inside the closet. Also, I am going to have to
find a
place to store the clothes that are currently wasting half of the space
in
the closet.

Have you ever seen this guy's solo album from (I'm guessing here) about
1976? It's in like every record store in San Francisco and it's
hilarious. It's one of those things I've picked up 20 times and almost
bought, but I listened to it and it's awful. Course, I don't know your
tastes, but this was like "cosmic" 70s RnB music. The pictures are of
him with like a pimped out 70s Buick and on the back it says something
like "You may remember me from my days providing the groove for Ramsey
Lewis. I'm off that trip now and doing my own thing" or something.
Totally looks like he put it out himself with all the requisite typos,
etc.

Next time you have to choose (in a hypothetical situation of course) between
the guy who steals records or the pervert with the foot fetish, stick with
the pervert. He might steal some of your shoes, but will most likely leave
your records alone. Sorry Andrea, I couldn't resist.

I think I must have meant March 1978, not Sept 1977 (I went and read the
9/77 piece and no mention of K.C.). I don't have access to the box
containing my later 70s issues, lol, all my ones from 1971-1976 are out.
Here's a link to the issue in question:
http://www.creemmedia.com/coverarchive/197803.html . Here's the one I
thought it was: http://www.creemmedia.com/coverarchive/197709.html

Creem was definitely my favorite rock magazine in the 1970s and very early
80s. Rock mags kinda sucked after that, until Mojo came around.

by the way, last weekend i found a glorious bookshelf (to the ceiling) in

painted it the same colour as my walls and it perfectly holds LP size vinyl
and 45s and Cds.And it looks cool too.
The trash is still the best buy in town, i loves to trash dig.....

Beyond the calico wall etc.) never worked as well as this one did. The
very one song to define "Acid" as in acid garage must be T.C. Atlantic's
"Faces". They must have made more stuff on this level (besides their
blues-rock album), so am I the only one to look very much foreward to
 the upcoming T.C. Atlantic comp?

i had a temp job once that required me to help close down this gas grill
warehouse...all sorts of great shelves but i got fired after the first day
cuz i was taking them apart with great care and taking them out to my car
(rather then just busting the hell out of em and tossing em in the
dumpster). oh well, still one of the better one day jobs i ever had....and
i still use those shelves (they don't look so cool but they heavy duty and i
actually got paid to take em, haha). i remember they almost fired me at
lunchtime cuz i had to take an extra half hour to get the first load
home...hey, whatta they expect outta a temp?? ;)

hey all,
here's what I need help on. the guitar player in my band plays with a
marshall head and marshall half stack. that's the only amp he owns. our
songs are supposed to sound like a punk rock version of james brown mixed
with a lot of influence from the sonics. The problem is his amp. when we
play our music it sounds more like gluecifer or the hellacopters than
straight garage rock, because the guitar is too beefy. he's tried everything
on that amp, and he can't get a good lo fi sound. any suggestions other than
buying a whole new (or old) amp. good pedals? I'm open to any ideas. thanks.

Subject: RIP Steve Caldwell

The following was recently posted on
http://www.swinginmedallions.com:

We want to express our sympathy to the family of Steve Caldwell.
Steve, an original Medallion, died on January 29th after a long
battle with Cancer. Forty Years ago he helped lay the foundation
for our band. We are honored to keep the tradition alive.

Caldwell was a saxophonist and vocalist with The Swingin'
Medallions--the Greenwood, South Carolina frat-rock group that
gave the world the great record, "Double Shot of My Baby's Love."

The group was formed in 1962 as The Medallions. Other members
were John McElrath (keyboards), Carroll Bledsoe (trumpet), Joe
Morris (drums), Jimbo Doares (guitar), Charles Webber (trumpet),
Brent Forston (keyboard, saxophone, flute) and James Perkins
(bass). The group became The Swingin' Medallions, most likely to
differentiate themselves from the LA doo wop group on Dotone,
when they cut a single for Dot ("Bye Bye Silly Girl"/"I Want to Be
Your Guy") that went nowhere in 1965.

The next year they cut "Double Shot" and it was first released on
the Four Sale label, but was soon picked up by Mercury
subsidiary, Smash. It became a Top Twenty pop hit.

The song became very popular. It has been covered by The K-
Otics, The Original Symptons, The Soulful Seven and Clifford
Curry. In 1983, Joe Stampley cut it and was rewarded with a Top
10 Country hit.

The group's next single,"She Drives Me Out of My Mind," is
another great song, but did not fare as well. Smash stuck with the
group for a total of six singles and an album, on which the group
covered such classics as "Louie Louie," "Wooly Bully" and "Hang
on Sloopy." The LP only made it to number 88 on Billboard's
album chart and A&M cut them loose. The Swingin'
Medallions then cut non-charters for Capitol and 1-2-3.

In 1967, Caldwell and Forston left the group to form Pieces of
Eight, which recorded for A&M and Mala Records. In 1969, they re-
cut "Double Shot."

McElrath keeps The Swingin' Medallion's name alive, playing dates
in the South to this day. The current group features some of
McElrath's sons. See the website for more information.

I'd suggest using less distortion on the amp; Marshalls DO have a
huge sound. The Big Muff (heh, heh, I said muff) distortion pedal is
good; you can get some nice biting tones out of that one. Perhaps
playing the guitar with the bridge pickup on only might give him the
higher, cutting sound that you're looking for. What guitar does he
use? Gibsons have that big fat sound, while Fenders are more on the
treble side and would cut thru the Marshall ooze better for this
purpose.

Can I join your real man club? I think I have SOME of the
requirements. I read MOJO, drink Jagermeister, eat White Castle
Burgers (bought by the box in the grocery store-no WC's in CT),
and watch porn (usually with my wife). Or will I get rejected for
being married?

No! Garage Punk is definitely in! I'm not taking a stand, just continuing
with the terminology I have used and staying away from the terms I don't.
I'm not even suggesting people stop using the term "garage rock", tho'
that would be great. I have just never cared for the term "garage rock"
because "rock" music replaced rock and roll and was something different
w/o the innocence and energy and fun of rock and roll. "Rock" music was
serious, know your chops, supposedly legitimate music to the some. Now if
you want to call it "garage rock and roll", I'm with ya' 100%, but this is a
bit
lenghty so "garage punk" is more convenient, or just "garage". And "garage
punk" is the original punk, so I would encourage the use of that term. Call
it all
what you like....so will I. Time to flip some 7" burgers!....Dr. M.

i've made it a bit easier.....my terminology for the stuff i really like is
"steaming pile of shit"...and the stuff i hate is just "shit".
probably won't catch on but it works for me. ;)

speaking of (ummm, steaming piles, i guess, otherwise nobody really was til
now), anybody got ahold of their copy of the rocket from the tombs thing
yet?? i'm waiting errrr patiently but i wouldn't mind an early "woohoo" or
"hoohaw" to tide me over. later

Subject: Re: Record Shelves

a couple side notes regarding shelves over 4' high...and better engineering...

LPs which overhang beyond the front edge of the shelf tend to pitch
the entire unit forward...even a 1/4" of LP mass hanging over the
edge can cause the pitch. And the higher you go the worse it gets.
So if you build, um, a mobile
(not-to-be-permanently-affixed-to-the-wall) unit, with shelves that
allow for a little LP overhang (as you can buy precut, edged, plastic
laminated shelving @ 11.5" deep from Home Depot), cut the side/walls
at a bias, er...at an angle, like so the bottom is wider and sticks
out a bit farther than the very top...this keeps the unit more stable
and less prone to unwanted forward movement. OR at least make sure
your shelves are deep enough (13"+) to hold the entire volume of a
LP...with shelves at this depth the shelf loaded w/LPs should pitch
backward.

oh, even well constructed, balanced shelves should ALWAYS be attached
to a wall with a corner bracket (I think thats what their called).
Just for added safety and stability...it'd really suck for all your
LPs to fall down and go BOOM on you...your kid...grandma, the
dog...or in earthquakes...as my shelves are screwed to the wall my
LPs on the top shelves only scooted forward only 2" during Seattle's
6.8 quake of 2001...

and if there is any unfinished lumber used, which can be a bit rough
for tender seams, cover the wood, painted or unpainted, well paint
'em and cover 'em with self adhesive plastic contact paper...

BTW...the Ikea 6'x6' shelves are great looking and worth the $$$.
