I can't tell you anything about a comp. but I listened religiously to those
two albums for years and I still pull them out every once in a while and
give 'em a spin. I used to be in a band that played Lucifer Sam, that is
definitely one of my favorites.

According to Gregg he is still working on the Swamp Rats comp. He started
doing the singles first just to get some stuff out there. The hold up is
there are a bunch of unissued cuts that he wants to include but there has
been one hold up after another with the other tracks.

Hey y'all,

I haven't posted for some time. I got behind with
reading the digests and its taken me a looooooog
time to catch up.
A lot of us NYC area bompsters got to see the Rod &
Colin show at the Village Underground last May. I saw
two of the shows and of course would have liked to
have heard what an actually Zombie reunion would
have sounded like. (I stood behind Chris White the
second night...and heard that everyone was there
for the final show...but just not unstage).
I recently picked up Colin Blunstone's
"Greatest Hits" CD on Mystic Records out of the UK.
It's the best of his catalog NEWLY recorded!
So on here is "Tell Her No", "She's Not There"
and "Time Of The Season" and he's backed by
Chris White, Hugh Grundy, Rod Argent, and
John Verrity. Recorded in 1998 I believe.
All good versions...I highly recommend it.

I might try to do a little legwork on this and see if there's a way I can

Well...at least this is a recent thread. Glad that
Bill Kelly is playing the new one on his "Teenage
Wasteland" show. I've been featuring tracks from
"Musique Automatique" on my show recently, too.
The lastest one has more has more Kraut-synth
elements (guess that's Breznel), then usual for them.
There's also a great cover of "(Route) Nationale 7"
which was covered by the Belgium band
The Honeymoon Killers back in 1982!
Got to meet and talk to Francoise Cactus at
a Stereo Total show from about a year ago
and she indeed is a total sweetie. The reason
that you might not hear Stereo Total much on
even your local college music stations is because
Bobsled Records doesn't believe in "servicing"
college radio stations. Our music director paid
for our copy of "M.A.". Recommended are "My Melody"
and their self-titled CD as well.

wondering if there's a compilation CD out there that just focus on
the Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd (1965-1968)? >>

you can't lose with the "magnesium proverbs" boot, which collects early
demos, the classic singles, and some live & BBC stuff, though this boot is
more of a general syd overview, and doesn't specifically focus on the floyd
years.
i think probably your best bet, material and cost-wise, is to check out
the "laughing madcaps" yahoo group and get in on the "have you got it yet"
CDR ring - this is a (so far) 4 disc collection of all things syd (floyd &
solo), comprising even more demos, acetates, alt mixes, alt edits, BBC
recordings, two complete live shows with syd, and a few unreleased tracks. if
you score this (it's a free thing, for trade only), "piper," "saucerful of
secrets" and the (i think this is still in print - should be available as an
import at better record stores) the UK "early singles" comp -which contains
the a's & b's of all barrett-era singles, you'll pretty much have all that's
currently available, commercially & booted. from the evidence in david
parker's recent "random precision" syd sessionography, though - this stuff is
more or less the tip of the hallucinogenic iceberg, as there appears to be
quite a bit of unreleased syd music in the EMI archives. hopefully somebody
will someday bitch-slap some sense upside waters' & gilmour's respective
heads and get this stuff released.

This is true - it's a lot of zydeco and Cajun records from the 50's, 60's AND
EVEN seventies that rock just as hard, in their own way, as the usual
garage/rockabilly/R&B thud we all revere on this list. I'd start with zydeco
king Clifton Chenier (especially his Specialty stuff, but his things on
Arhoolie are superior as well), along with the Cajun artists on the Swallow
label. Hell, Tim Warren knows, I see he's started selling Cajun and zydeco
music in his catalogue.

Yeah, those Carvins are VERY versatile (cheap too!),
especially with the 5-band EQ - I play straight into
the amp too, and it's easy (well, it is NOW - it took
a while to master the art of knob-twiddling!) to get
as much or as little distortion as you want. Plus,
with the 25-50-100 watt selector switch, you don't
have to go yankin' power tubes out of it to get a
lower output level!

Tim
P.S. If anybody wants to know what other players are
saying about any specific model of amp, guitar, or
effects pedal, go to www.harmonycentral.com - they
have a huge database of user reviews. It's a good
place to find out what a piece of equipment is REALLY
like (and how much it should cost) before you buy it.
