Well tonight is a great night for showing off the anazing pipes of Eric Martin and also Andrea Gillis. Eric Martin and the Illrians are playing Johnny D's in Davis Square. Andrea Gillis is playing the Toad in Porter Square backed by her Other Girls' cohorts Jennifer D'Angora and Michelle Pathus. I hear Asa Brebner is playing there also. I don't know the time frame for either show. So please check the club's websites. I figure I'll go to Toad first and end up at Johnny D's around 10ish. Remember there's never a cover at Toad...that can't be bad!! Luv ya!! Nancy Neon

Hey,

This week Rocky and Deena retreated to the dungeon and let our hellraising
Halloween pals Count Rockula and Dee Rangia outta the CIUT crypt to present a
fitting tribute to the recently-departed Yvonne DeCarlo (aka. Lily) and her
terrific TV family, the Munsters. Here are the creepy things we unearthed:

Surfing Lungs - Munsters Theme
Drusalee & the Dead - Lily

The Who - Pictures of Lily

Del Shannon - Don't Gild the Lily, Lily

* The Worst - Dracula's Daughter

* Fiends - Made for Me or Eerie Avenue

 Zebra Stripes - Intro '66

* Suckerpunch - Lone Wolf Fever

Eddie & the Monsters - Whatever Happened to Eddie?

Eddie & the Showmen - Squad Car

Herman Munster poetry from "Beatsville"

* Forbidden Dimension - Tall, Dark & Gruesome

Ramones - Pet Sematary

Pandoras - She's Ugly

*Les Incapables - Dragahula

The Bam Balams - Munster Rock & Roller

The Munsters - Munster Creep

*Les Monstres - Le monstre mash

Standells - You Can't Do That

1313 Mockingbird Lane - Ooga Booga Baby

* Curse of Horseflesh - Skeleton Hill 90210

And we ended the show with Question Mark & the Mysterions - I Need Somebody to
raise awareness of the following tragic rock & roll story from January 9 as
told by representatives:

A terrible tragedy has befallen ? & The Mysterians. This past Tuesday
evening, the home of ? and his manager and manager's wife, burned to the
ground.

They have lived in this house for the past 30 plus years and everything they
own, gold records, photos, everything was lost.

They are uninsured. They raise Yorkshire Terriers and lost four of their seven
dogs and other pets in the fire. They are now trying to survive by living
in their tour bus parked at their farm. They were off the road so the bus was
not stocked with anything at the time. No food, clothing, or any thing that
will allow them to exist for long.

They are in need of everything. Also any photos or recordings anyone can
supply them with as they were not able to save anything except the three of
his
dogs, two of whom are eldery and blind and one boot he could slip on before
running out of the fire.

Please help if you can. Any donations can be mailed to ? & The Mysterians at:
PO Box 96 Clio, MI 48420

If you can help in any other ways, please contact us at
msswartz@chartermi.net
and speak with us. We can put you in direct contact with ? if you would like
to help him directly. We'd like to see about putting on a few benefits for
them so they can rebuild. Anyone interested please please contact us quickly.
If you'd like to put on a benefit for them yourselves, any and all help will
be greatly appreciated.

a..

a.. GASPO'S ZAUBER CUCHLIS (MAGIC BROWNIES)

Ok, I normally use hash (that's the most available), but you could just
substitute grass by grinding it up real fine (use a pepper grinder, and you
can get rid of those stems too, but they have a harder taste).

Rules:
Warn your guests to wait one hour after the first brownie until they have a
second one. The buzz from eating is different than smoking it, and even the
heaviest smokers may have a hard time recognizing the effects at first.

Ingredients:

200g butter (margarine won't work)
200g unsweetened chocolate
250g sugar
4 eggs
200g flour
splash vanilla extract
100g dark chocolate (regular candy type)

Directions:

1.. over low heat, melt butter in saucepan.
2.. once butter is just slightly bubbling, mix in ground up hash and stir
for 5-10 minutes, taking the pan off the heat every now and then to keep the
butter from steaming too much (the magic actually steams out too I think).
3.. melt unsweetened chocolate into butter, stirring constantly.
4.. when all chocolat is melted totally, splash a few drops of vanilla in.
If you can hear the vanilla sink to the bottom and "sizzle", the the mix is
hot enough. So, remove from heat. If it doesn't sizzle, then your low
setting is low enough. I usually just turn off the heat, but leave the pan
on the burner (for a ceramic stove).
5.. stir in the sugar little by little (so it doesn't clump)
6.. once all the sugar is mixed in, beat the eggs and mix them in.
7.. add the flour (stir in first so it doesn't blow all around), and use
an electric mixer on LOW (it's a waste to splash magic all over the kitchen)
until the whole bit is smooth and there are no lumps or pockets of flour.
8.. break dark chocolate into nickel size chunks, and stir in.
9.. pour mix into shallow pan (2-3cm), and pop in medium heat oven for
about 30-40min. NOTE: I never time the puppies, I just look at 'em and know.
A toothpick will come out with just a little brown color when they are done.

I bought one of these and haven't been that impressed. I haven't had a
chance to play around with it too much but I found that running a turntable
through a preamp and into my PC worked as well and I was only out the cost
of a preamp (under $50). There are also Numark turntables with a built-in
preamp that aren't as much as the USB models and they are a more proven
technology. I would give this a marginal recommendation, but ONLY if you
have a reasonably fast computer and USB 2.0. If you don't have 2.0, forget
about it. I may like this a lot better after I play around with it more, but
I just haven't had time since I bought it (I've been fighting pneumonia) to
really put it through its paces.

1) depends on the quality of the cartridge and
analog->digital components of the unit. If you
already have a decent turntable you'd probably
be better off getting a preamp and a USB sound
device like an M-Audio Audiophile USB or similar.

2) if you're going to go though the time and effort
of digitizing your vinyl collection, don't rip
directly to MP3. Record to WAV/AIFF (at actual CD
quality) and archive it in a lossless compression
format like FLAC or APE. You can always make MP3s
from the archived copies without having to re-record
    the original vinyl.

I also have some advice to ask

I play 3 different keyboards on stage and I am trying to find a good
amp that could work for all 3 - right now I just use DIs

My problem is that they are very different - I play a Teischord (combo
organ), Crumar performer and a little Casio.

Soon to be added to the collection is a Vox Jaguar

Any suggestion on the kind of amp???

I had a small SWR bass amp for a while but it just wasn't working out

thanks!!

The point of the USB turntable is to be able to get your vinyl onto your computer, not necessarily to play it back on your stereo. I figured the idea was to get the stuff in your computer's music library, maybe to put it on an iPod, or to throw it into a podcast.

Remember, you're not being forced to rip stuff to MP3 when you take it in from a USB turntable. You can also export as WAV files or various other file formats. Of course, files with better sound quality almost always take up more disk space.
